  1. My wife and step daughter have been here 2 years. I just booked ticket to thailand and realized they dont have green cards. I never received any notice. Come to find out fee was never paid. I just paid fees. Trip is december 15. They claim 45 days i will have them. I dont believe it. Will they let them back into usa.? Im extremely paranoid right now and the trip is paid for. I dont know what il do if they are sent back to thailand and i have a newborn baby to myself. Any suggestions?

  2. Birthplace on birth certificate says she's born in surin, passport says bangkok. They want it to match. She's getting new passport as we speak. That means we are ok after correction. Any idea as to time frame of getting visa?

  4. I cant imagine that there will be a problem with what you have. This will serve as a model of what others can do about this serious aspect of the visa process for children.

I am sure you will let us know how the interview went. We all want this to go well and for you to have what you have worked so hard to get and spent all this money for as well.

paper work supposedly good, wife's passport says born bangkok and her birth certificate says surin, they want her to fix it and send it in and they will send visa. She aill get new passport Friday. We will see...
  5. I know someone that spent 300,000 and never did get anything even close to what Alex has here. Money well spent if it gets the job done.

it better get the job done, this is what embassy in bangkok emailed me with. I have what they asked for, the language is clear. Custody fom a real court. I've been doing this 3 years, I'm at about $100,000usd between sending money , legal fees, and travel back and forth. Her interview is tomorrow.
  6. Translation of sole custody judgement and petition

Better to have too much documentation than not enough.

  7. This is very difficult for people I know. This is probably a situation like I described before where they think what you are doing is asking them to " pre screen " the case. That's just a guess. Interesting to note in the case I sent you info on they did respond to questions to a certain degree.

You would think they would at least say if the docs were acceptable. However in the example I sent you they said " most people don't obtain these childrens visas on the first attempt ".

I've paid my taxes, all my visa fees, medical fees, lawyer fees, I'm over $100,000 into this being apart from my family almost 3 years. I can't believe I've been able to maintain. They don't even have the courtesy to respond with a name of whom I'm speaking to in email. And they will never let me reply to their email,mi must start over again. I'm a human being and my family are human beings, a family's survival is depending on this process to be givin a fair shake. I'm tired of these people. They to should be held accountable.
  8. Good luck and let me know please... I'm behind you by about 3-4 months.

I hired Siam legal to try to get official custody before my interview for 50,000 baht to go along with certification of custody. Not sure what is going to happen, can't really understand his legal terminology. Hoping for the best, nervous. US embassy in bangkok will not tell me if certification will be enough. I sent scanned copies of document and translation and they keep sending copies of requirements generated through state dept website. Worst customer service ever.
  9. We will find out soon, I'm panicked but hopeful, I've been waiting a long time.

The website shows different links for immigrant visas and K visas. Both have the same information on child custody. Since I did not go the IR-1/IR-2 route, I don't know the answer. We need someone with more recent experience to post their experience. The only references I've found are threads where someone was headed down the path, but never followed up with the final results/solution.

  10. It's been a roller coaster ride, I'm about to meet my fate, my marriage will come to an end if I don't get the approval. I've done all I could do, there is nothing left. It's been over 2 years and I'm struggling. I won't know until the interview. This post strikes fear to a degree I can't explain. I won't separate them, I'd rather be divorced.

I have this document in my possession, it is real. As to weather it will work is a different story. My wife was never married and the father took off after 6 months. My step daughter is 6. We found him and he agreed to sign. When notary showed up in rio et he demanded 1,000,000 baht. Lawyer said it would cost 150,000 baht to go through the courts and take a year. My wife calls me and says she ill handle it without lawyer. 2 weeks later she emails me copy of my step daughters passport. She paid 150 baht and went to amphur with her mother and aunt. Gets document stating they lived together common law but were never married and that he failed to register child and never claimed him as his own. Therefore my wife has sole custody and has ability to make all decision. I was completely shocked . The passport has been issued and can't be issued per the Thai passport website without both parents consent or a court order. My document is with nvc right now so I can't show it to you, but believe me , I got it and its real. I'm awaiting completion at nvc . You will not get a straight answer from anybody. From what I understand its a case by case basis. I've been waiting over 2 years o get them here because I was told I couldn't get a passport without a signature. They are wrong.

  12. I wouldn't be too offended by the farang thing. Paying the father for the signature is kinda SOP over there unfortunately.

As for the rest of post, I hope it's only your MIL that thinks the roads are paved with gold here and not your wife.

its definitly the MIL, ,my wife knows very well. I know the farang thing shouldnt bother me but it does. if thai I dont know call me that it doesnt offend me. But if a person who was going to the batroom in a hole outside 3 years ago and diddnt have a pot to Pi#$ in who now does calls me that , i find it offensive to a degree i cant explain, i put this womens son through school and feed all of her childrens in some way and she lives with none of her children. i guess i have alot of resentment with her that needs to be resoloved, but i think its best left alone.

  13. Just follow the instructions on that link. Once you get case complete from NVC, it's easy. You've done most of the work with them. All that will be left is the embassy steps which is pretty much proof of ongoing relationship, and the medical.

It's been 3 long years, I've lost 30lbs, alienated myself from my family because I couldn't answer questions about when my family would arrive. I could've had my wife here already but refused to seperate her from her daughter while I got her paperwork in order. There is resentment over all that has happened. I hope all works out in the end, I've put everything I have on the line. The hope that my mother in law will one day call me by my name and not farang, as I am the one who feeds her daughter an her grand daughter . The hope she will understand that the roads are not paved in gold and Obama doesn't pass out bags of money to poor people . I feel so small after doing very good things. Still trying to cope with the fact that my daughters "real" father who hasn't seem her since she was 4 months old would try to sell his signiture to me, I'm praying every day that our custody paperwork will allow my daughter to come to America. I won't know until the final moment. What I do know is that if she's not approved this dream is over for me. Sorry for rambling but I need it to survive, you people know what I'm going through. Thank you
