  1. Hi everyone,

I'm in the process of obtaining a new long form birth certificate and I have run into a potential problem (hopefully not a big problem).

I was born in North York, Ontario - when North York was still seperate from Toronto. It is now part of the city of Toronto. However, I mistakenly put Toronto as my birth place when I filled out my g-325.

Now I'm filling out the info to get a new birth certificate and if I put Toronto instead of North York on it, I could get into an issue with service Ontario. But if I put North York on it and show up to my interview with a birth certifate North York and my g-325 saying Toronto there could be an issue with the Consulate.

My current birth certificate says North York as my place of birth.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

  2. Of course! I'd never have him overstay. I wouldn't risk our future in such a way, we're doing everything legally.

I'm just trying to figure out at which point he's allowed to stay in the U.S for the rest of the application processing with me.

He will only be allowed to legally stay and live in the states once he has been issued the visa. So after submitting all the necessary paperwork, your fiancé will need to go to an interview before being issued the visa. He cannot stay in the US legally for more than 6 months until he has gone to the interview and been approved and has his visa in hand.

I should add that all that paperwork (the petition) must be approved first, too. That's the hardest part. Waiting for the NOA2!

  3. Couldn't agree more. It's funny how uncertain and worried we can get when we have nothing to worry about ;)! When the seed of doubt has been planted, it seems to grow with a mind of its own.

Waiting to be able to move is pretty dreadful. I've never been so annoying about counting down each day, crossing my fingers, and hoping for good news!

Your fiance is in Canada with you right now?

I wish! She lives in pittsburgh, which fortunately is only about a 6 hour drive from my house, so I do at least get to visit once every two months or so.

  4. My fiancée and I applied in October. It hasn't been all that long yet, but the uncertainty of it all is overwhelming. I (Canadian citizen) met her at school in pittsburgh and we spent pretty much every day together for the two and half years we dated. It's been now a year a half since I left the US and waiting to be able to move back is very hard!

Here's to hoping we all get good news soon!

  5. I've taken the Megabus across the border and an individual was almost left there because of some issue with their passport. I would imagine if you took the megabus was the intention of using your K1 visa, there would be a good chance the bus would leave without you. If you were to do this, however, I would suggest you sit at the very front of the bus so that you are first in line for immigration so that people aren't waiting on you. Very risky still I would think.

  6. My case is now online. It took a month and a half, but it's appearing now!

    Vermont service center, btw.

Just wondering what your case status looks like. Our status appeared now too, stating that the alien registration has changed regarding our I-129F, Petition for Fiance. Just wondering if this is common. I have seen some others post similar responses on here as well. Thanks!

We are Vermont service center, too

  7. Hi Everyone!

Sorry I'm so late in joining this group! My fiancee (USC) filed our K1 petition on October 23 and we received our NOA1 on November 1. Also, just yesterday our case status was finally updated on the USCIS website, saying that on November 6 the Alien Registration number has been changed relating to our petition. Not sure exactly what that means lol, but we are excited to be seeing some progress! Thanks everyone for all the help and guidance on here!

  8. Hello everyone!

My fiancee who is an American citizen just filed our I-129F petition the other week. We met at university in Pittsburgh which I attended on a student visa (less than two years ago). Now I'm at school here in Canada until May 2013 and she is working in Pittsburgh. She has a ton of student debt, and since I'm in school, I don't have much money either. We wrestled with which visa to apply for (we thought about having an early wedding) and eventually decided on the K1 visa. Now, I'm faced with the fact that there will be a lot more fee's for work authorization and residency. I know I can't apply for the spouse visa and the fiancee visa, but would it be worth it to get married soon, scrap our K1 petition and file for the spouse visa? Would we be saving enough money and headache getting work authorization to justify it? Or am I making myself crazy thinking about this?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

  9. Just wanted to send a big thank you to everyone who has posted here. My fiancée and I are submitting our k1 petition in the next couple days, and this site has been a huge help.

I know I have been stressing too much about this whole process. I do have one question in terms of 'proof of relationship'. We actually went to school together in Pittsburgh and both graduated in 2011. If we both submit our diplomas, would that be sufficient? I usually drive to pittsburgh, so I do not have plane or buss passes/reciepts to submit. And our communication is usually over Skype like apps,, so there isn't much in terms of a documented record. I will be submitting pictures of the two of us as we'll.

It is my understanding that proof of having met in the past two years is the most important component at this stage.

Any advice would be very much appreciated!
