Hey y'all, I just wanted to give an update! Peter's visa left the embassy this morning and should arrive tomorrow
Guess that proves they were still hard at work despite the protesting and appointment cancellations. Given the circumstances, I must say: Way to go Cairo Embassy! Good job!

my mom is sponsoring me and my husband ( I'm the USC and the petitioner) and I was a little confused about question 9 in part 3 " I'm sponsoring those family members immigrating at the same time or at 6 months with the principle immigrant" should my mom put my name in this list? cuz I was confused about it since I'm a USC and I don't need to immigrate but I still need to be counted somewhere cuz my income is Zero and I needed her to be our joint sponsor. is there any place else on the form she will need to put my name in this form to be counted?
LOL...No, you're not an immigrant. Just your husband's name will go there. The other blanks are for other immigrants coming with him like children. You are not counted on your Mom's form unless you are a dependent that she claims on her taxes (if you are a dependent, she will simply add you to the household total). She's not sponsoring you...she's sponsoring your husband. She is a joint filer that is completely separate from you. Please read and download the instructions from the website I sent you. Trust me, it will answer these questions in a heartbeat and help you so much!

thank you for your answer, I want to know about the I-864 when they ask about the place the petitioner resides in should we write the one in America???
Here's what I did (I-864):
1. Mailing Address: Permanent address in America
2. Place of Residence: Egypt because that's where I'm currently living
3. Country of Domicile: United States (then your wife needs to prove that she maintains a home in the US...if you need to know how to do this, read the I-864 instructions (pdf) and it tells you what to send to prove this. It will also tell you step by step how to answer each question on the form)
-
I see where it says this on the I-864 checklist...put it doesn't say it on the I-864 instruction form (pdf) you download. So, I didn't submit an IRS publication...and I don't thank many have. Just a written explanation should be fine. But if you want to be safe, this is what it says to do on the DOS website:
IF you paid U.S. income taxes, you MUST submit a copy of the most recent federal income tax return with all supporting schedules and/or W-2s, or an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) transcript (even if the sponsor filed electronically). To request IRS-generated transcripts or copies of a tax return, visit the IRS website. The tax return must have all pages stapled together in the correct order.
If you did not file a tax return, attach a written explanation and a copy of the IRS publication showing the filing exemption. For information on income tax filing requirements, visit the IRS website.
It tells you to go to the IRS website and print a publication that explains why you did not have to file. It's sounds pretty easy. If you go to the IRS website, you'll find a list of pdf publications. You need to find one that proves you were not required to file taxes. I already found one for you. So print this pdf and send it in just in case they are doing things differently now. When you print it, highlight the area that says "who should file?" and highlight the requirements. Then in your written explanation, explain why you do not have to file according to the IRS's list of requirements.

Hi all...I was definitely wondering the same thing as we just had our interview too a couple weeks ago. I do know that the press release saying that the embassy was evacuated is false. The embassy posted on Facebook one hour ago updating saying this:
"Update on the Status of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. Press reports indicating that the U.S. Embassy in Cairo closed yesterday are incorrect, as are reports that the embassy has authorized an evacuation of personnel. The embassy had staff working throughout the day and evening yesterday. In response to clashes between rioters and police in the vicinity of the embassy, the embassy reduced staffing and closed for non-emergency public consular services in order to minimize the risk to people who might have been trapped inside the chancery by demonstrations. The embassy intends to open for normal operations as usual on Sunday, although previously scheduled appointments for consular services are being rescheduled"
SO, I am assuming this will be good for us, in that some personnel were still working, and most likely with limited distractions, so they were able to process things faster than on a normal day with appointments. Here's to hopeful thinking!
Oh, that sounds like awesome news! I was curious, because they never said they actually closed in the security messages...it only makes mention of cancelling appointments, not letting anyone in or out, or making it an early release day for employees. Hopefully they are still able to work inside and get those visas processed
Thanks so much for the update...I just woke up from a nap and haven't been on facebook yet lol. I'll go check out the message now!

Thanks so much

I have a question for those of you who went through the visa process during the revolution in 2010....or those of you who know someone that did.
The US Embassy in Cairo cancelled appointments this past Tuesday, cancelled today's late appointments, and have cancelled the appointments set for this Sunday, Dec 2nd. My question is: Even though they have cancelled appointments and have "closed", do they still have employees working inside? My husband had his interview last Sunday and was approved and told the visa will come within 2 weeks. Do they continue to process the visas and ship them out? Or is it on hold until they are "fully operational" again?
If you were (or know someone that was) approved before the revolution started and were waiting on your/their visa to arrive...please let me know what happened: if is was received as planned, or if it was delayed/put on hold.
Thanks so much!

Ohhh okay. I guess I had the abbreviation wrong all together
Thanks for the explanation. and yes, I've been talking privately with the girl who's husband got approved in Cairo today without AP. gives me hope! but we have red flags (age and religious difference) and they didn't, so wish us luck! O_O
Really there is no telling who will get AP...and although it means a waiting game if he gets it, it usually results in an approval and visa once the embassy finishes their background/security checks or whatever else they are doing with the case.
I wouldn't focus too much on the red flags...these are just guidelines we use to see what might raise concern or questions to the CO doing the interview. Regarding your age, I don't think it's a big enough difference to truly cause concern. And about the religion, you will see that the majority of the women in the Egypt group are married/engaged to a man of a different religion. The embassy sees it every day. Red flags are just things you need to address just in case. Pictures of you with his family, showing their acceptance and approval will show that the age and religion is not an issue with you, him, or his family. Also, affidavits from your family shows they approve as well. And the fact that you and him will be living together speaks volumes. Save proof of your traveling together to Thailand...save any hotel receipts for you both and plan ahead! Have both of you sign the hotel receipts so you can save them. Any bit of evidence you can think of along the way no matter how small...save it!
Just remember that although AP is very normal, many have gotten approved with No AP while having an age difference and a religious difference. If you give them the papers and the proof they need, you've done all you can. Just stay positive and don't focus on the AP. Good luck and best wishes

Congratulations ! Whatcha cooking, to celebrate?
Hmmm, good question! I think I'll celebrate with a nice big steak once we get to America...haven't had one of those in over 7 months!
And Penguin...how in the world did I manage to post in K3?!? LOL...I guess I was so excited I didn't know where I was posting! haha.

Thanks everyone!

I am sooo excited!
Hubby called and told me he was approved with no AP! The CO said he'll have the visa within 15 days! His phone died right after he gave me the good news(
), so that's all I know for now. But, when he gets home I'll get all the details from him so I can share his experience and leave a review!
Thank you VJ'ers so much for all the valuable information. And thanks to my Egypt people for sharing your past experiences...every bit helps!
Good luck to all of you with upcoming interviews! I can't tell you how happy I am that hubby and I will be in the US with my family for Christmas, and most of all, hubby and I will be together for the birth of our sweet little boy in January!
<----- happy tears!

Thanks so much everyone! Hubby just called and said he was approved with NO AP! Visa should be here within 15 days!
When he gets home, I'll get the details and post a review!

Thanks y'all for the prayers and well wishes!

Yay! Thanks so much!

Thanks so much for all the awesome info put on here by all you VJ'ers! It's 1:32am here in Egypt, meaning hubby's interview is only 1 day away!
We are excited and anxious at the same time...and will be much relieved when the interview is over! We've prepared ourselves to the best of our ability, and are certainly accepting prayers that the interview goes great, hubby gets approved, and with NO AP!
Also, please pray that my husband, Peter, stays safe as he travels to Cairo. I'm not allowed inside with him, so I'll be staying home where it's safe and sound. There are currently protests and clashes going on in the area of the embassy...so we are praying everything is safe and well for him. He has to leave extra early to ensure he can get to the appt on time and get around whatever obstacles there are.
I think we've gathered and prepared as much as we know how...but of course, I welcome any last minute tips, advice, and words of encouragement! And when I have the results, I'll be sure to come on here and share our experience/leave a review!
And a BIG thanks to my fellow Egypt members for all the great info I've received!

Thanks so much for the info!

I imagine she is using a her Mom as a household sponsor
Sorry to hear about the additional wait to find a co-sponsor. But, it sounds like everything else went well for you! Hopefully you can find someone to be a joint sponsor so you can get the case movin' and approved soon!
They're probably asking for one since the combined income is so close to the minimum (like Penguin said). My hubby's interview is on Sunday...and out of everything...the thing that makes me worry the most, is the AOS!
Good luck and best wishes for a quick and speedy finish! And Happy Thanksgiving!

Oh, and have you looked at the I-864? I suggest you look over it very well and read the instructions for it also. I think it will answer a lot of your questions. You'll see where on the I-864 is asks for the current income...in addition to the income tax totals.
If your Mom's current income is substantially different than what her last 3 tax returns show...you should be ready to explain why. That's where the retirement info/paystubs/employment letter will come into play. You don't want to make it to the interview then have the CO question why the totals are different and then give you a paper saying you need to submit additional evidence...or worse, find a new sponsor!
Hope this helps!

Thank you Guys for sharing your valuable information with me. I talked to a lawyer today and she told me that all my mom need to file the affidavit is her last three tax returns and W2 for the last three years and copy of her passport that's all and I think we can make it with that and when I ask her does she need bank statement or letter from her employer as they said she MUST include that on the official website, she told me not to trust these websites and just to send what she told me about and we should be okay as once they see that the tax returns cover the requirements they don't care about anything else...... do you think that's right???
Hey Amanda!
Noooo, I think that's very bad info they gave you. She needs to show CURRENT income. The last 3 years of tax returns doesn't mean much if the current income isn't there. The tax returns are to show what your Mom has been bringing in...to show whether or not the income is steady. But the current income is what's most important, as that is what will be supporting your husband.
And it does not say on the website that you MUST submit employment letters/pay stubs. That is optional and used to verify the CURRENT INCOME.
You should submit the last 3 years tax returns and W-2's (or tax transcripts only)...and because your Mom is relying on retirement and the part time job, she should include as much evidence as she can that shows her current income. Her retirement info, plus paystubs/an employment letter from the part-time employer would be nice. The evidence is optional, but given your mom's situation, the more you can show the better. And don't talk to that particular lawyer again LOL

Thanks everyone for your advice/opinions! I will definitely take it all into consideration! I have lots of thinking to do before the time comes to book!
