Should I list bank accounts and pension accounts even if it is not nearly enough to meet the minimum asset requirements? I do have a co-sponsor that earns more than enough income.
-
I've already paid for everything online and filled out the forms, but just stuck at putting together the documents in each packet. So overwhelming.
-
Ah ok because the application asks for the beneficiaries income and assets, so I thought to include my husband's apartment that his owns, so that would be his ownership papers and something showing the net value of the apartment. We also have a joint bank account together in Egypt and was thinking to send our most recent bank statement. So if he doesn't have any income or assets in America, then I put in zeros for everything on the beneficiaries part as if he has nothing??? Confused.
-
Does this apply to both AOS and IV Application?
-
Anyone else have an answer to this? I'm also wondering the same thing as I am overseas and my co-sponsor is in the US.
-
I am currently living in Egypt and putting together our packets to send out, but have a couple of questions:
1. For the AOS packet, we are using my brother who lives in America. What is the process for sending his documents? Does he need to send it to us in Egypt first and then we send it to NVC? Do we send our packet to him and then he adds his documents and then send it to NVC? Can we send them separately?
2. For the IV App packet, I need the original/certified copy of the document plus a photo copy. Do I need to make photo copies of my cover letter, the application and the additional page to the application as well?
3. Read threads about sending packets in separate envelopes, but both in one courier envelope. Anyone experience problems with this? I would very much like to send it together as it would save lots of money.
Thanks in advance

My wife in egypt sent me through fedex a month ago, very quick and affordable. I would just suggest going to google maps or something similar and look for local parcel services. Always best to go directly to ask for help when dealing with internation mail.
Thanks! I called FedEx and they seem to be the best. Also called DHL, but the rep didn't sound so professional. Also called UPS, but no answer.

I used Fedex for 420 EGP and the shipment arrives in 2 days only 1 day for shipping and the other for delivery.I hope that helps. Wish me luck as i am in AP now
Thank you Omar! How did you arrange for FedEx? We are currently in Sharm. Not sure how FedEx works in Egypt. Would be great if you have some information.
Good luck to you!

I am looking for some help from people that have had similar situations as my husband and I. I am American and My husband is Egyptian. We both have lived in Egypt for the past few years and we are in the middle of the visa application process. We are now at the point of sending our AOS and IV packets and hoping we can get more practical information related to the US Embassy here in Cairo and completing the process from Egypt.
Since we are in Egypt, I am wondering what would be the best way to send our packets? What company and how much did it cost?
I have many questions and hoping someone could help.
Thank you so much!

thanks!
BUMP
anyone can help with the AOS part?

I thought I had everything figured out and then it's time to send our packets and I'm not sure.
We have the DS-230 to send with all of the beneficiary's documents. If I remember correctly, these documents do not have to be translated if in the language of the country you are applying from? We are in Egypt and documents are in Arabic, so no need to translate right?
Then there's the AOS with all of the supporting documents and these do need to be translated right? And then we send these packets to:
31 Rochester Avenue Suite 100
Portsmouth, NH 03801-2914Also are the cover pages that you print out the same or are they 2 different ones? I can't tell, but they look the same to me.I'm so confused and I want to be sure I'm doing everything right. Thanks in advance! -
I didn't realize I could have anyone translate it and have them sign the form. Thought I needed an official translator approved by the embassy. Thanks!
-
Not clear about this requirement. Will my husband (beneficiary) need to get a report from every city in Egypt he lived in or is it just the nearest police station? So many documents and I want to be sure I get everything right. Thank you!!!!

Stupid question. I know the answer. Just wanted to complain and share my frustration.
Side note: Is there a way to delete this post?
-
Just to add the form is I-864 not I-184. Make sure you have the right one!
hahaha Yes! That's the form. Got the right one. Just not the right brain to write the right form name.
-
Might be a stupid question, but do I need to translate all of our documents for the AOS since they are in Arabic. For example, my husband's property ownership papers, my temporary resident visa, etc. Just so difficult to translate where we are since no one does it in our city and we have to travel more than 7 hours by bus to Cairo and then have the documents translated and then wait 3 days or so for it to be done, while we either have to rent a hotel for those 3 days or travel another 3 hours to another city where we have a place to stay. Just so much to translate these documents. Is there an easier way? Thank you!!!

I would if our advance search worked right now
My husband wrote something like:
To whom it may concern,
I am Penguin_ie's husband and petitioning sponsor. During my three years in Ireland I did not work; I used savings and was maintained by my wife on her salary. Thus, I had no income or significant holdings in the USA was not required to file US tax returns with the Internal Revenue Services.
Signed (original signature)
Awesome thank you so much! :-)

You and your husband will file one I-864 together, so it doesn't matter who you file under.
If you did not file taxes because you were not required to (my husband had a similar situation), just write a short explanation instead of attaching tax filings.
Great. I'm trying to find an example statement to explain why I didnt need to file. Any suggestions where I can find this? Thank you!

If my husband (beneficiary) and I (petitioner) have a joint savings and checking, who should I list the balances under? Does it matter? I don't have any income since I've been living in and out of the country since 2008 and haven't worked. Also the reason why I haven't filed taxes since then. I've been living off my savings since then. I worked for a couple of months in 2012, but not enough to file (only a couple hundred dollars). Do I need to include my w-2? Thank you for your help! :-)

Thank you for the replies. It's not likely that the applicant will sue the sponsor, but anyone had experience where the applicant did receive means tested benefits and the government sought reimbursement?
Can anyone give me an idea how long it took them to become a US Citizen after receiving approval for the spousal visa?
Just trying to cover all areas of concern for our potential sponsor.

I am at the point of submitting the Affidavit of Support. I already paid the $88 fee and submitted the form to assign an agent. Need some help as I am not sure exactly what I should do now.
I am currently living overseas with my husband and have been for the past couple of years, therefore don't work and don't files taxes, nor do I have any assets. So I have asked a family member to be a joint sponsor. This person is unsure whether he should do it or not as we both don't know what it all entails. I have read all of the paperwork that came with the form about the responsibilities as a sponsor, but what does it all really mean and has anyone had any problems with this as a sponsor or the applicant? I read that the contract ends when the applicant becomes a US citizen or gets the 40 credits for social security, sponsor dies, etc. Is it as scary as it sounds? Also this contract means the applicant, as long as the contract with the sponsor is valid, cannot apply for any government benefits such as TANF or SNAP, etc?
I feel so overwhelmed right now. Help!!!

Just double checking...I thought I thought I saw a post that allows you to translate documents yourself instead of going to a certified translator. We are 7 hours away from a certified translator so looking for an alternative for translating our rental agreement. Any advise appreciated. Thank you!

I am just starting the process for my husband who is in Egypt. We have been married n living together since June 2012.
I have a bunch of questions I'm hoping I could get advise on.
1. I will have my mom write an affidavit verifying the marriage/relationship and probably could get one from my father. Is it weird if we don't get one from anyone on his side of the family? Can I find templates or examples of affidavits I could follow?
2. I have about 25 photos. What is the best way to present them? I was thinking glue it to a blank sheet of paper and write descriptions of each photo underneath.
3. Anyone have an example table of contents?
4. Not sure what would be good to include in my letter stating what I am petitioning for. Any examples I could follow?
5. I am in the US now but plan to go back to Egypt in 3 months. What do I need to do to ensure I get all documents at my Egyptian address if after 3 months?
Thank you all so much for your advice.
