  1. Hi,

Thanks for your information. I really appreciate it. I was looking however on the US embassy in Delhi's page and it had the following information with regards to the police clearance:

    http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas/a-z-subject-listing-for-iv-terms.html#police

Each visa applicant over the age of 16 must present original police certificates. Police certificates must cover the entire period of the applicant's residence in any area. The term "police certificate" means a certification by appropriate police authorities stating what their records show concerning each applicant, including all arrests, the reasons for the arrests, and the disposition of each case of which there is a record. Police certificates from certain countries are considered unobtainable. For more information on poice certificate requirements see the instructions below:

Indian Citizens Age 16 and above, residing in India:

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local passport office.

Based on the above, it appears that only one police certificate is required and that too from the local passport office, which in my case would be Chandigarh. Any thoughts on this?

  2. Hi,

I'm a US citizen and am in the process of filing the DS-230 for my wife in India. I have a question regarding how many police certificates I would need. Since turning 16, my wife first lived in Delhi for 4 years and then for the past 5 years has lived in Chandigarh (where she currently resides). Given this, I have a few questions:

1)Would she only need 1 police certificate from Chandigarh where she currently resides? Or would she need a police certificate from Delhi also?

    2) With regards to the police certificate - is it issued by the local passport office or does she have to get something from the police as well?

    3) How long after the DS-230 is processed does one get an interview call? This case if for the Delhi consulate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
