I respectfully disagree. Minorities would be targeted. Current statistics show that non-whites are stopped more often than a white person. I don't want to give a reason for the police to harass someone based solely on skin color. End of my discussion on this.
Once again, I would like an answer to how someone who says that legal immigration is broken would change the legal immigration system.
When a police officer asks for your ID, he/she is NOT harassing you. And if you have to spend some time pulling out your ID, you can do the same for your immigration ID as well.
When the police force targets the minorities for this ID checking, GOOD! As long as the purpose is to weed out the illegal immigrants, GOOD and VERY GOOD.
When you intend to break the law (immigrate to this country illegally), I don't care you're a minority or whatever. You NEED TO GET OUT!
Checking their immigration IDs won't solve every problem but it certainly would eliminate the smirking smiles from their faces if they create damage to other ppl's private properties (cars) and know there's no consequence for that.

People will always try to come to the US illegally when the opportunities in their home countries are not good and it is better to come to the US illegally. It has less to do with the difficulilties I loin in the US illegally. Rather it is the dire economic and social reasons that motivates people to come to the US. If people had opportunities in their home countries, they probably wouldnt come to the US.
Turning the US into a police state is not a solution. Do you really think it furthers democracy and freedom if you must present a national ID to walk down the street? Will the police be able to check everybody? This bad idea is why so many are against the Arizona law. No American wants to live in a police state like China or Russia.
No one is trying to close the gate behind them. No one is advocating changing the system to make it harder for those behind. New immigrants are asked to go through the same doors as those of us who are already here.
Let's keep this conversation away from illegal immigration. What would you like to see happen with legal immigration? Increase it? Decrease it? Keep it the same? And what would be the results.
People say the legal immigration system is broken because their relatives have to wait (like the rest if us who went ahead) by pointing to illegals. That's ridiculous. Illegals don't cause the long waits in legal immigration. Keep it on legal immigration.
Pardon me for jumping in your reply although it was directed towards someone else. I personally would totally 110% for that idea. It would be a hassle indeed but fairly minor and much less agitating comparing to being hit numerous times by illegal immigrated (sorry but I refuse to use the term "undocumented") and UNINSURED motorists within a short period of time.
Heck, I'm even more than happy to pay more taxes so more police officers can be hired to perform that task. In the long run, it will cost all of us LESS $$$$ than all the damages the illegal aliens have been created.
There's a reason why certain group of people are categorized as "illegal".
End of my rant.

So the petitioner gets penalized because of the system being so very slow and obsolete? Logic should dictate that if the child is under the age of 21, the petition should go through for the child as well. Consider this, you've purchased a car, it has two weeks on the warranty, you take it into the dealership, the dealership keeps it for two weeks and two days before performing service then charges you the full cost of the repair because now the car is out of warranty.
Yes, our immigration procedures require a complete overhaul.
That's why in lots of SE Asia countries more and more people turn to "marital" Visas for much faster waiting time compared to immediate relative immigration Visas.
When someone's age is about 22-25 years of age and the waiting time is around 7-8 years (being sponsored by their own LPR parents), it would make a lot more sense to get married with a USC and cut the waiting time SIGNIFICANTLY
......and this brings in the "unwanted" byproduct as result, marriage fraud for immigration purpose!
So just like almost anything else in life, don't work harder, work SMARTER....Wink, Wink.

I'm calling BS on this. Vietnam was in chaos in 1975. The Communists didn't exactly trust any Americans at that time, and they certainly weren't looking to hire them.
Also, the US will not accept your renouncement of citizenship unless you'd already become a citizen of another country. Presumably, you would have already become a citizen of Vietnam. Obviously, you wouldn't have become a citizen of the Republic of Vietnam because the Communists would probably have arrested you rather than hiring you. So you became a citizen of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, right? Where did you go to give up your US citizenship? The US Embassy in Saigon was closed for consular operations in March, before the Fall of Saigon. It was closed for good by the end of April. The only way you could have pulled this off is to become a citizen of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Ha Noi before the US Embassy closed and then traveled to Saigon to relinquish your US citizenship. That would have been quite a stunt, considering there were no commercial air flights between Ha Noi and Saigon at the time, and traveling by land would have been suicide considering that you were a foreigner, and no matter which side you were on there were literally millions of people along the way who would have been happy to kill you.
This smells like one of D.Q.'s stories.
By the way Jim, membership of the VN Communist party is NOT like one of Sam's club or Costco's, paying a nominal fee and you're in. Ask your wife and you should get a better answer. Millions of Vnese worship the Party and very few get the membership privilege.
Your logic is great in the above quote. But it's not always like so in real life ( at least for the few privileged)

Do us a favor and go back to your 3 houses and 2 luxury cars (IOW, get lost)... Anybody can be rich and handsome on an internet forum.
Phil,
If you read all of my posts more carefully in this particular thread, I NEVER addressed to you. You seem to be angry. I would care less (if you choose that kinda lifestyle, attacking other ppl on the internet who don't even address to you), but please Phil, go drink a cold glass of water before your high blood pressure starts to jeopardize your health.
We all here at VJ very much care about each other. And we certainly don't tell each other to get lost! Because that would make this forum very childish.
We are grown mature adult coming here seeking help to find love, wouldn't you agree with me?
Don't feed the DQ troll.
Who's DQ? A famous Moderator? A famous sex therapist? A famous communist?

For a VN person to have stayed in VN and obtained what your friend obtained is definitely believable. For a US citizen to have MOVED to VN in 1975 and done the same thing stretches the bounds of credibility. The few Americans who were still in VN in early 1975 were being shot at while trying to get out. This guy wants us to believe he waltzed in, gave up his US citizenship, and joined the Communist party. That might be possible now, but not in 1975.
Jim, if the "secret" on how to do it (my case) is freely available, who would stay behind to become factory workers? Everyone would do the same like me and take milk and honey bath instead of plain hard water right?
I have no desire to prove it to you nor anyone else. Who on earth would give away secrets on becoming rich, especially when it's free?

Hi,
I just wonder why all this process is so complicated, long and stressful. We are in 21 century now, but still keep toturing people. I heard that USCIS made it so difficult because they want to prevent marriage frauds. I don't know if it helped them do that but the fact is that all this process really complicates the life of honest innocent people who just want to be together. And every time when u are filling in another form u r so afraid and worried over each word and it sometimes makes u feel like a real criminal, though u r clean. And then when u send ur papers u start worrying even more because it takes a while until u get a response from USCIS. And u start thinking something went wrong. meanwhile people who really intend to do smth illegal know how to do it and i guess even USCIS strict rules won't stop them. My point is it shouldn't be this way. Why don't the authorities focus more on catching real criminals rather than giving headache to honest people who obey the laws.
I am reading peoples' topics in this forum and i can't believe how they keep us all worried and stressed. maybe there will be a day when people unite and say enough is enough and will start fighting for their human rights against all this paperwork system. Basically we fight for our love trying to prove to somebody that we are not criminals and that we are normal people and deserve to be together. Isn't it rediculous? But i guess this is life.
How can the employees of the USCIS distinguish between the real (law abiding citizens) from the criminals (trying to get fraudulent marital Visas)? I suppose there're NEVER anyone in the past who attempted to put up a few years with a USC so he/she can come to the US via a spousal Visa and immediately filed for divorce once the permanent residency had been established.
And by the way, there're millions of Americans available for your love here in the USA. Please don't tell us that you just simply can't find one suitable for your love need. It's your option to go overseas looking for love. But expect the US gov't to spend its time and effort making sure that person (whose love for you is real or not) not laughing at the Us govt and saying "Gee, that country is such moron! They can't tell the difference b/w real love and fake one"

NEVER EVER give up your US citizenship, trust me you will regret if you give it up.
I gave my US citizenship in 1975 and moved to Vietnam to serve its communist party. Never regret my decision. I've had a blast of my life!!!!! 35 years later, I've accumulated quite lots of wealth, 3 houses, 2 luxury cars and plenty of foreign bank accounts for my retirement. It would be my wildest dream to even dare dreaming of a small portion of what I current have if I still hang on to my USC.
OP, move to Vietnam NOW!!!!! It's never too late!!!! Don't put down yourself just becoming another normal blue collar worker in the States. Be a leader and a wealth-accumulator in Vietnam! But you need to make the first move on your own to be successful! Good luck!

110% agree! There're certain people who do nothing but spend more time abroad than in the US. Then they just come back in the nick of the time just to keep their GC legal status floating.
There's not justification for the rest of us, LPR or USC working long hours to pay taxes to support the country so the above mentioned ppl can enjoy the benefits, how matter small.
