  1. Hello VJ Users,

I received a letter explaining the required documents that I must bring with me for my Adjustment of Status interview and I can't provide W-2's as my Affidavit of Support is Self-Employed and doesn't make payslips for himself as well as other documents. What should I do?

My wife suggested we provide a letter explaining that he is self-employed and provide a Tax Return form.

    Would that suffice?

    Also another question:

I have my wife's birth certificate but I only have a copy of the front page.

Will I require the back side of the birth certificate or will that not mind?

  2. Hello VJ Users,

We applied for my Adjustment of Status and also applied for Advance Parole and sent them both together.

My wife and I have a cruise scheduled in January 2014 for our Honeymoon as well as my parents 20th Anniversary. My parents are really looking forward to this as they want to spend time with me because I am no longer back home (Moved to the US).

We received a letter from the US Government today saying that my interview is ready and has been scheduled for January 8th 2014. We called in and they said they had the Advance Parole information on their system and was in the middle of processing it. They knew about the days I requested to be out of the states yet they gave us a date that conflicted with it.

My wife and I were wondering what are the precautions to asking for the interview to be delayed.

It mentions we may have to repeat steps but the operator said those steps could be something as small as a bio-metrics scan.

What really concerns me is the delay. How much of a delay are we looking at facing if we delay the interview? I arrive back on January 20th into the US.

It would really devastate my parents if I don't go on the cruise but they will understand for something as important as this. I am curious how much of a risk it is to delay an interview?

Thank you for reading and for your support VJ

  3. Highly unlikely this will happen, like already mentioned its a game of cat and mouse!

Like before, they will reach a deal and that is that!

Looks like it was likely to happen in the end. What does this mean for married couples who just submitted their AOS/AP for an immigrant visa at the Chicago Lockbox? We've planned a vacation out of the country in early January, would this be in jepoardy?

  4. Hello VJ Users,

I have been approved to move to the United States and have been in the states for the past 2 weeks.

I'm currently in the middle of filing my forms for the Adjustment of Status, Form I-485, and I'm confused on a couple questions and I was wondering if you could help out.

    Current USCIS Status:

    - What should I put here exactly as the question is a little vague.

I'm also doing the Biographic Information, Form G-325A, and I'm also stuck on this question as well.

This form is submitted in connection with an application for:

    - Naturalization

    - Status as Permanent Resident

    - Other

I know it isn't Naturalization but is it Status As Permanent Resident or Other?

    Thanks once again VJ.

    Ricardo

    P.S.

We're also applying for the approval to leave the United States of America for 2 weeks to go on a Honeymoon cruise in November.

What is the likely hood chance of being approved since it's fairly short notice?

  5. So did CBP confirm that K-1 is also automated for I-94 now?

I thought they might still get the old one.. a K-1 needs that I-94 for SSN etc.

You actually do no have to have the I-94 to get the SSN card, at least here in Kansas City, when my fiance came here on this K-1 Visa in August 2013, he was never issued a I-94 (and with the help to this post we figured out why) They told us at the SSA all we needed was his alien number since we didn't have the I-94 form, so we called Dept of State and they provided it and he got his SSC is less than a week after we applied.

We will need the I-94 form for his AOS though and that link had it posted with the information, so hopefully we can use that when we file for AOS?

    Thanks!

  6. You shouldn;t need the police cert, unless possibly you;ll be applying to work with kids etc. The passport should be outside the brown envelope smile.png

    OK.

    Thank you.

    What about Birth Certificate though?

They don't have my original but they have a certified copy from my Embassy.

    Would I need that one?

I have a certified translated one though but it doesn't include some signatures.

  7. your file in the MYsterious Brown Envelope contains the birth cert, police cert etc. So you won't need copies for immigration, but you also won;t get the stuff back. It would be a good idea to bring copies of the birth cert, marriage cert etc as you may need them in your future life for various things.

    Oh...OK.

What about my passport though since they have it?

    Do I get that back?

Will that come in the envelope because I kind of need that to travel to the US.

They also have my only copy of my Police Certificate. Would I really need one in the future?

  8. Hello VJ,

On August 1st 2013 I was approved by the US Embassy in London and I'm really excited and glad that this has happened considering the time and effort it has taken us to fight this process for the past few months.

I will be flying off to America on August 15th but I have some questions concerning my travelling.

Now I know I will receive an envelope with documents inside which I must hand to the Officer over in America and I am NOT allowed to open the envelope but I have some questions.

Is that all I must provide the Officer?

Do I still need to bring my Police Certificate, Sponsor Support Forms, Birth Certificate etc.

Or will this envelope just contain all of this information?

I know I must bring my medical results and various other things with me but I don't think that's for the Officers eyes but more for when I start to settle into America and apply for Citizenship.

I just want to know before I start packing because I don't want to put important documents in my suitcase instead of my hand luggage and then asked for it and I don't have it on me.

Thank you for reading this post.

  9. Hello fellow VJ-ers! Hope all is well! My fiance finished his medical exam today in London. It went swimmingly! Next is the interview! (woot!) I've been reading and it looks like various people are bringing various documentations along with their I-134 (financial support documentation) I mailed him my tax return from last year, along with 3 paystubs from my two current jobs each (they're not on last years tax return, but maybe two months) I'm also having my uncle co-sponsor as I'm a student who only works 25hrs a week, with his seperate I-134, I sent a scanned copy of his passport and his tax return from last year. Are we okay? Some people said they just have tax return, others all this employer verification? I guess I need to know if there's something else I need to send my fiance asap!?

    Thank you lovely people :D

  10. you do not need to send the items on the checklist with packet 3, just the completed checklist itself. that is merely a checklist so you are prepared for what to bring to the interview.

i do know that it states on the DS156-K that it is required, but you can just bring them with you to the interview as outlined on the checklist.

    Thank you for your post!

It's definitely a relief as we haven't got the police certificate or The Affidavit of Support yet.

Can anyone please verify this first though?

I'm just being extra cautious at this stage as we're closing in on our wedding date and I don't want to make any mistakes that would cause any big delays.

  11. Hello Everyone,

I am currently in the middle of doing my Packet 3 and I've read the list of what must be sent.

    Going through the forms.

I read that I must also send the following things as well. Birth Certificate, Police Certificate, Marriage Certification (If any), Birth Certificate(s) of children (If any) etc.

Now this doesn't specify on the checklist or the letter I had received from the US Embassy but it does state it on Form DS-156-K.

So I am rather confused as to what needs to be sent with Packet 3 and what does not.

    Thanks to all in advance.

  12. When you say cover letter must be attached with the given information in step two, this is email address, date of wedding, and date of medical examination, correct? And is this DS-2001 the "checklist" I've been hearing about? If not, what is the checklist?

    Thanks!

London gives their instructions on their website here http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

They don't want documents mailed in. Documents are birth certificate, police certificate, divorce decree, financial records.
They do want the forms as soon as you get them prepared.

In order to be assigned an interview, London needs 3 things in their hands.

    • The four application forms and copies as noted in Step One of their instructions. Mail ASAP.
    • The results from the medical exam sent over from the clinic by courier. arrives 3-4 days after medical exam.
    • The form DS-2001 which says you have all the required documents in your possession and are prepared to interview. A cover letter must be attached to it giving the information they ask for in Step Two. Mail when you have all the documents that are taken to the interview. That means the I-134 that must come from the US fiancé by snail mail is also in the UK fiance's hands, not on the way.
This London K1 help thread might be very useful for where you are now http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/350185-london-2012-k1s-from-noa2-to-interview-thread/

  13. I'm starting to get nervous, and very afraid something is wrong, Our case left NVC May 13th, and of all the other timelines we follow from the same country, same NOA2 approval, same NVC leaving, they've gotten their Packet three and a month later we are still waiting. I contacted the Embassy last week and they said to give it another week, because even though we were in week three, it can take 4 weeks for a case to be put into the system, but today we're at a month, and ours wasn't even put into the system, let alone issued. NVC doesn't have it, I called and confirmed for a second time it left their office may 13th. The US Embassy in London doesn't necessarily have it on their record either :(

I dont know what to do. Who I'm supposed to call? IF there really is anything I can do but sit and try not to let it tear us apart. Has anyone, or know of anyone hearing of the US Embassy in London taking so long to issue their Packet 3? Granted, my Fiance lives in Guernsey, an island of the English Channel Islands, but is technically recognized under the UK... I guess besides my pity story, I've been looking at this website http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html trying to see what my fiance needs to do when he gets back from a music festival in England. Does he download and return every copy in the download box on the side? Also, I've been hearing a lot about this checklist? What is the checklist where can I find a copy? Also, how long estimating, could it take from packet 3 leaving us to packet 4 arriving? I'm starting to FREAK because the date on our NOA2 says August 26th, 2013 and I've seen people say 6-8 weeks (2 months after them sending in packet 3 do they get interview but if we dont get our packet 3 until july, the interview could fall after august 26th. I'm so confused. Lost. Hurt. I'd love answers because I've tried spending the $20 to contact the embassy and they gave me no answers).

Summary of questions I'd love help on:

    1. Why is it taking embassy so long, does it normally take more than 1 month for the embassy to issue packet three after they've received it. It's not in their system according to last week.

    2. Forms.. what is a checklist.. is it one of the forms mentioned above on the link?

    3. How long approximately between packet 3 leaving/medical exam to interview date.

    4. what does the NOA2 deadline mean?! We have to have the final visa approval by then or we have to start over?

  14. Hello,

2 weeks ago we got approved by the NVC and our case was forwarded to the Immigrant Visa Unit in the UK at the US Embassy in London.

We were informed by many people that when the IMV receive the case that we'll receive a package (package 3 for the K-1) from them usually within a week's time from them receiving.

It's been three weeks and I was wondering if any of you knew if this is average waiting time or if they are behind?

I tried calling their number on the london.usembassy.gov and they informed me to call another number which did not work.

There are some people my fiancee follows on here who have the same timeline as ours, when they started etc, and they had received their approval from NVC with a 1-2 day difference to ours and 4 days later received their packet 3.

I was just wondering if any one could give me some insight on how I can resolve this so we can check on our case and package 3.

Many have suggested E-Mailing but many are also saying they will disregard your E-Mail if you don't have a code and by code do people mean the Case number or?

Another thing I must ask also is during my search for a number to call, I went through the FAQ to which I read that after you complete the Packet 3 documents and send them back that you may have to wait approximately 3 months while they process. Is this also fairly accurate or are they simply suggesting you should prepare yourself for 3 months wait just in case?

  16. My husband will be rubbing shoulders at the embassy with Zandra's... literally the same embassy, the same day! He also wanted to know if there is a current list of questions to study up on. As far as I know, the questions will come from the documents the embassy has in their possession... which is half the reason we did not submit 5 pounds smile.png But it would be better to be prepared and we wanted to practice some sample questions.

I'll go correct my packet 3 date on my timeline, too... oops8rh.gif

From what I understand the questions are very simple and your significant other and you should already know them. They're questions like, what is your fiance/spouses name, where did you meet, if it was online, what was the site, have you meet in person before and where, what does she/he do in the United States, where will you live. From what I've read from many others, it's four questions and they're all very simple, so you should do great!

    Good luck.

  17. you have to put both so that it help to boost your income and able to meet the poverty guidelines.

if your both part time job meet the income requirement you don't need a co-sponsor.

if your answer is no, co-sponsor should use form -864 and you fill up form I-134 goodluck

what???? My co-sponsor doesn't use the I-134 form? Are you sure they use a different form? Im a full time student, I do work two part time jobs but it only totals to less than 10k a year, so I definitely need a co-sponsor.

  18. I'm starting to fill out the I-134 form with myself and my uncle who is our co-sponsor, but what technically counts as supporting documents? I go to school full-time and work two part time jobs, so I have no idea what to put as my employer. Should I put my main part-time job or put full-time student/part-time after school program instructor? HELP!

"The US fiance is ALWAYS the primary sponsor, but may have a co-sponsor. If there is a co-sponsor, both the

US fiance and the co-sponsor will EACH have to fill out the affidavit I-134 or I-864 and EACH will have to provide
    supporting documentation."

  19. Hello, I am aware that while you are filing for your AOS, you may also file for a AP, advance parole, which if granted, will let you travel outside the US while your green card is pending. My fiance's family is wanting to take us on a shared honeymoon/anniversary in January, we are looking at my Fiance coming here in July/Aug. and doing civil ceremony right away to start AOS/AP process.. My question is, how long does it typically take for an AP to be granted? I live in Kansas City, would I contact my local office for estimated processing times, or who could I notify to answer my question?

    Thanks! helpsmilie.gifidea9dv.gif

  20. Hello Everyone,

Our NOA2 was approved last week and we've been forwarded to NVC (National Visa Center).

We are now awaiting word from NVC on our next steps. While I've been waiting I've been viewing their FAQ posted on their site and I read this.

    1. Invoice you for your visa application fees
    2. Collect your visa application and supporting documentation
    3. Hold your visa petition until an interview can be scheduled with a consular

When it says Supporting Documentation, does it refer to things such as financial sponsors papers?

Are there any other real big important Supporting Documentation we should also be aware of?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Much thanks

    - Ricardo
