I'd imagine this is something one should consider whenever they are thinking of having a life partner from anywhere and even outside of immigration.

Yes, something we look for in a partner outside of immigration. However, the article illustrates perfectly how the culture and community is. You have to use some serious observation and listening to keenly identify the ones with the real morals and values. Don’t just fall for dem pretty words.

Not really realistic to expect most immigrant spouses to support an American in the US.  In fact, the opposite is the case when US citizens "immigrate over" someone.

They should have the skill set to become self sustaining. Otherwise, you are building  on an unhealthy attachment. We all have to naturally feel we are contributing and can care for ourselves.

  3. Before you immigrate someone from Jamaica, consider whether or not the man you met, can support you financially, mentally, and emotionally. This article, see link below, was published by one of the major circulating newspapers in Jamaica. Think wisely because once you immigrate someone, it is life changing. Can be good or bad, ultimately, your experience will be determined by whether or not you took your time to discern and make sure this person will add to you.

    God bless.

  4. AP is the black hole of the process. Have you tried having a congressional/senatorial inquiry? It doesn't gaurantee anything, but its an official resposne. If you are a voter it helps. Also, it will help if your political representative is for immigration.

  5. you don't have to submit the I-134 form with the I-129F packet. The I-129F process is verify the petitioner and beneficiary meet the requirements to apply for the K1 visa. After USCIS approves the I-129F it goes to clearinghouse for the file to be set up - issue case number - us background checks and then sent to embassy. Once at the embassy the beneficiary applies for the the K1 where the I-134 is a requirement for the K1 visa application.

  6. My husband and I are expecting twins and would like to have his parents visit once they are born. I have a letter, medical report, and letter from me from my OB attesting my due date and pregnancy. What other documents, besides a copy of our marriage certificate, will my in-laws need to apply?

What are the chances the US Embassy would approve them? If they are approved, how long is the typical tourist visa issued for? My husband says they will get a 10 year visa, but I don't think that is correct.

  7. Hi there,

Can anyone tell me if the length of time to POE with AP would be the same as when my husband POE'd with the K1? Looking at booking a trip want to make sure there is enough time between connections.

Also, if for some reason while aboard the green card is issued, will my husband still need to go through the same process with AP or would CBP see his status and process him differently?

    Thank you,

  8. I know what im going to ask have been posted but can someone make clear of this for me.

    Things we pay for:

    K1 form Fee

    Police Clearence Fee

    Medical Fee

    Interview Fee

    Fingerprint Fee???

    Green Card Fee???

    AOS Fee

Is this right? And if so, how much is the green card fee and fingerprints?

    1) 129F = $340

2)The police fee can be anywhere between $3000 to 5000 JA. The 5000 JA is for expedited I forgot how long it takes to process. Fiance will need to take fingerprints for police cert - I believe this is included in the police cert fee.

3)Medical Fee is anywhere between $25,000-30,000 JA (Varies by location and # of vaccines required - generaly most get 2-3)

4)Fingerprints will be taken at the interview -included with the $240 visa fee, which at this time is paid on the day of the interview. Must be paid in JA so will need to make sure your fiance brings the equivalent.

5)Green card fee is the AOS which is $1070 (fingerprints aka biometrics included with the $1070 fee)

Now don't forget the no impediment certificate another $50-60 US (however paid in JA)

Vaccination record. If your fiance doesn't have his may be a good idea to get a copy so he can take to the medical. Will help with saving some money.

Certified birth certificate through the Registrar General Department in JA - if doesn't have the newer version will need to get one. Its a watermark one vs the hand written form. If I recall correctly the embassy will only accept the newer version.

Passport photos are cheap but you will need a few. You and your will need to submit 2 for the i-129F packet. 2 for the police cert, 2 for the medical, and 2 for the K1 interview. 6 for the AOS packet. (my numbers may be a bit off but know you will need quite a few)

Again, don't forget the travel expenses. If these aren't available in your fiance's town they will need to travel to the larger cities (i.e. mo'bay or kingston) to get these done. For the police cert, no marriage cert and birth cert gotta arrive first thing as a line forms. especially for police cert. All visa applicant I believe are required to get a police cert in Jamaica.

If there was a previous marriage, then your fiance will need to submit a copy of the divorce and and divorce decree. Also, if there are children they will need most of the documents and medical exam as well.

    Good luck

  9. What is the time frane for AOS

EAP/AP takes on average 60-90 days from filing date. When you file with AOS these are free to file.

AOS can be anywhere from 6-8 months from filing date. Althought there is one particular V'Jer who has been waiting over a year for GC. There is just more waiting once your fiance arrives. The K1 was initially created to be a faster process, however over the last couple of years it seems to take just as long as CR-1...in my opinion. If you factor in the waiting for the k1 and then AOS it might be worth waiting a couple of more months. Believe me I know once I started the k1, i wanted nothing more than to be with my fiance. Look at the timelines and average it out.

  10. This journey is expensive. Really vett out all cost before starting is my best advice. You will have a fee for the I-129F plus any fees for obtaining copies of documents (i.e. birth certificates). Once approved you will have to pay the $240 for K1, police certificate, no impediment to marriage certificate, Medical exam and immunizations, passport photos. Also remember to include the incidental expenses like travel, faxing/emailing, photo copies, mailing documents back and forth (as some will require a wet signature). This does not include all the expenses you incur from the relationship, like phone calls and traveling back and forth.

Then once your fiance get here there is the big AOS fee of $1070. Don't forget to consider while you are waiting for AOS/EAP/AP, you fiance will be unable to work so you will have to incorporate his personal expenses as well. This is an emotional time, if you are not able to file AOS right away remember your fiance may not like having to rely fully on you on top of adjusting to relocating to a new society, geography, and new people.

Really look at the timelines and your personal situation. Sometimes given the length of time it takes for the k1, the CR-1 maybe the better route given your fiance (i mean husband under cr-1) comes in with the green card and ready to work.

  11. while they are doing the actual administrative processing the status will remain as "ready" under the immigrant visa category. Once adminstrative processing has been complete (name/background checks), then the category will change to non-immigrant visa for K1. Once recategorized to Non-Immigrant it will go from "Ready", "administrative processing" - this is usally when the visa is queue to print and your sealed packaged is assembled, then finally "issued".

The embassy no longer issues the tracking number. THe tracking number is created by DHL once they pick up the visa. Which is usually the next day after your status is switched to issued. After 90 days you can have your congress person or senator submit a congressional inquiry to verify the status of your case. From what I learned the name and background checks are conducted by US officer and not jamaican embassy staff and usually this is one person who does all checks for all applicants. So it may very will be you file is in queue and is taking this long. Usually congress/senator will not submit an inquiry until the 90 days have passed. Often times if you are just in queue, you file is pulled verified and processed shortly afterwards.

    Good luck!

  12. @Pinkrlion - so basically there is no issues, just the possibility of being asked questions by CBP.

thanks guys. I will let him know to to stop worrying. I told him CBP will see he has a pending application for GC and will see he entered on K1. They may not know the in and outs of the visa process but should know its standard for K1'ers to get combo card while waiting for GC.

  13. if is says Non-Immigrant "Ready" then its getting ready to print. Sounds like you are almost at the finish line. Remember the tracking number will post on the visainfo site. (website you registered for passport delivery). A month is not bad. Looks like the embassy is picking up on processing the fiance visas. DHL will issue the tracking number. After your visa says issued, usually the next morning DHL will pick up and bring to their main sorting center - usually by 2 pm that day. It take a couple of days for DHL to enter and the VisaInfo site to update with the tracking number. Be patient you are almost there.

  14. OK do I have to scan the ds-230?

Remember the beneficiary must sign the completed DS-230 part 1 to get the interview date. Wait a couple of business days, if you haven't received a reply, contact the department of state. They will confirm if the appointment has been scheduled.

Good luck.. and keep in mind this is the most difficult part of the process. Try to keep patient because you will need it.

  15. did you request an address update at the NVC level? I know when I updated my beneficiary address (called and sent email when case transferred from USCIS to NVC) it took a little over 3 weeks for them to ship out. The entire time when I clled they said - AP. But when I got an email acknowledging address update next day case sent to Jamaica.

bottom line, did you make any request (i.e. make them pull your file out of normal queue)
