  1. Our IR2 case has been complete with NVC since June 10th and we are simply waiting g for an interview date for our daughter now. It seems like the embassy is moving pretty slow these days or is super busy so we are praying for an October interview for her. The embassy seemed to be issuing interviews much sooner back in 2013 when my husband went through the IR1 process.

  2. Did you get your interview date?

    When was your case completed?

I'm also waiting for interview date with Nairobi,Kenya embassy.

Our Scan date is May 19th 2016.

Our case complete date is June 20th 2016.

Case complete was June 10th. Still haven't received an interview yet. Based on my research it looks like we probably won't be assigned interviews until the end of August for interview dates in October but I am praying it will be sooner than that. Nairobi is such a busy embassy.

  3. May 16, Just don't get it why it should take that long & some embassies get their dates quicker.

I know. Waiting near the end of the immigration process seems more difficult than all the initial waiting earlier in the process. I know Nairobi is super busy processing visas for I believe 4 or 5 countries so I am sure that is why they get so backed up. Best of luck to you as you wait. I hope you hear something still this month!

  4. Hi all,

My husband's interview is in Nairboi on July 26th. SO anxious excited about it. My question is how long after approval at the interview is the visa issued usually?

    Thanks

I am not sure if it still takes this long but it took exactly 7 days after the visa was approved for it to be released to my husband back in 2013. Hopefully it doesn't take that long now. We have our case complete and are now waiting for an interview date to be issued for my stepdaughter. It looks like it took several months after your case was complete to be issued an interview date....that's what I was afraid of.

  5. Your case is with NVC so you need to call the and request an expedite. They will tell you what and how to send them the documented proof. Than they send t embassy and he embassy decides. You usually find out within a weeks time.

Nairobi is very busy they aren't slow because they have all the surrounding countries to deal with. All you can do is try.

Since you don;t even have case compete you might get denied. But doesn't hurt to try. Considering it's just a 5 year old and not deployment, death or dying or humanitarian, financial hardship) just to list the main reasons. But you won't know if you don't try

Yes, I am aware that Nairobi is very busy and that she is just a 5 year old but as you said it doesn't hurt to try so I will do that. Thank you for letting me know that it is NVC that I need to contact. I wasn't sure if it would be NVC or the embassy directly that I should contact so I wanted to double check. Thanks for your help! Much appreciated.

  6. Hi all,

I have a question to ask. Our scan date was May 9th and we are anticipating a case complete any day now from NVC. We are petitioning for my 5 year old stepdaughter. The embassy in Nairobi is notorious for being slow at scheduling the interview (my husband had his interview there several years ago). My stepdaughter is due to start kindergarten here in the US on August 26th but needs to be here by August 12th to get registered and do the entrance testing. How do we request that an interview be scheduled for sometime in July or early August for her? Do we email the embassy direct or do we still go through NVC to request? I understand that this request may be denied but I am trying to do my very best to make her transition to the U.S. and our schooling as simple for her as possible. Nairobi typically gets several months behind on interview scheduling so at this rate we most likely would have a September interview for her if we do not request them to consider providing an earlier interview date. Any help anyone could provide would be fantastic. Thank you!

  7. Hi loveyourlife! I see you were in a similar situation to me. My husband is from Rwanda, which just started processing immigration visas; until a few months ago Rwandans had to go through Kenya. So there isn't any information about the process at the Rwanda embassy.

Anyway, my question is this: my husband has a son who we are not applying for at this time. Do you remember, when your husband applied, whether you submitted a birth certificate for his daughter? Both the Kenya and Rwanda embassies have said this is necessary, but when I asked around on VJ, several people said it wasn't true. My husband is trying to get a birth certificate for his son but it's likely to take several months. I don't know whether to send the documents I have to the NVC now, knowing it's possible I'll get an RFE if they want the birth certificate, or wait many months until it's available.

Since my husband lived in Kenya for a couple of years he's also trying to get his Certificate of Good Conduct from there... the directions online are clear enough, but the official at the Kenyan embassy in Rwanda told him it's not possible. Gotta love Africa! I swear, government officials in Rwanda don't give up documents until you've asked three times. "Impossible." Next day: "Impossible." The day after that: "fine, if you come back tomorrow." The day after that: "Who told you that? Impossible." (and so on...)

I envy people whose spouses live in countries where everyone has a birth certificate!

    Hi Gretch,

Best of luck to you as you complete this journey soon! Rwanda is beautiful. I spent some time in Kigali last year and truly enjoyed it. When my husband went through the immigration process a few years ago, he was not asked to provide a birth certificate for his daughter, but we also did not mention petitioning for her in the future at that time. If I were you, I would send your documents to NVC now instead of waiting because you may luck out and not be asked to provide his son's birth certificate.

I feel your pain on the drama associated with getting a birth certificate issued. It took my husband nearly 6 weeks to get a birth certificate issued for himself a few years back. We had to request that a birth certificate be issued for my step daughter months ago knowing that it would be needed to complete this process and it took 10 weeks to receive because they create inaccurate birth certificates with spelling errors on it the first two times they issued it.

Wishing you all the best with this process.

  8. Hi there! Hopefully it won't be silent any more....I'm a newbie and have lots of questions! If you check my timeline, you will realize that I'm still in for a long wait but I thought I would be proactive and find out about some of the things that are needed....I've outlined them below:-

    1. How will I know once NVC sends my documents to the Embassy? Will they contact me, if yes through what medium? I've checked the I-129F form and neither my phone number nor email address was given....maybe through the petitioner?

    2. I have no vaccination records, neither does my 18 yr old son, but my 8 yr old daughter has(by the way, I'm a K1/K2 beneficiary), will the doctor determine what vaccines we need or do we need to make arrangements to get all the vaccines? Can we embark on getting the vaccines now or it has to be done by IOM?

    3. I've read some conflicting information about interview scheduling; Does the embassy call to schedule the interview or do you have to do it the same way you schedule an interview for a non-immigrant visa?

    I have lots of questions....

    Hi Ambasa73,

Wishing you the best as you continue to move forward on this immigration process for you and your family.

    1. You or the petitioner should be able to check the case status from NVC at the ceac.state.gov website to see if the case is still at NVC or if it has been sent on to Nairobi as long as you have your case number. The petitioner can also call NVC to check if the documents have left NVC and been received at the embassy yet. If the petitioner is listed as your agent (contact person) they will receive all notifications to their phone number or email address on your behalf.

    2. My husband also did not have a vaccination record. He was able to get some of his vaccinations in Uganda but got the last one or two at IOM in Nairobi because he was unsure if he would need all the vaccines. Long story short, you can get them done now as long as you know which ones you need. Just make sure to get a vaccination record that you can show to IOM when you go there.

    3. I may be incorrect as we were IR1/IR2 visas, but I believe unless things have changed K1/K2 immigrants get the opportunity to schedule your own interview times via an online portal that you will be given access to once your case is complete at NVC. Anyone feel free to correct me if that has changed in the past few years.

    Best of luck!

  9. hi guys,

    quick question re:vaccinations.

my husband has health insurance in uganda, so he can get his vaccines pretty much free here, rather than paying in Nairobi. Which vaccines are required? i've been told that there are 4 specifically that they ensure adults have pre interview. can anyone shed some light?

    thanks in advance.

also i had case complete march 4th. any ideas how long the wait for interview date will be? im cr1 visa, so nvc has told me they will schedule me, just curious about how long the wait might be. praying it will be before june.

    Hi shannonnoelle,

He can get his vaccinations in Uganda as long as he takes his vaccination records to show proof of vaccination (that is what my husband did back in 2013 and they had no problem with it at IOM in Nairobi). You can find the list of vaccinations required on the USCIS,gov website. I believe tetanus, the Hepatitis A and B series, Measles, Mumps, and Rubella but you will have to check on the others. Back in 2013, it took about 6 weeks from case complete before they scheduled his interview. The interview was scheduled for the end of the next month. Hopefully they scheduled you at the beginning of this month for June or July. Best wishes as you near the end of this long and difficult process of waiting!

  10. Hi all!

I was very active on this board back in 2012/2013 when my husband was immigrating on an CR1 visa. My husband had a great and easy experience with the Nairobi embassy back in 2013. Now we are currently going through the process again for my stepdaughter. We are at the NVC stage waiting for her case complete notification and then we will also be awaiting the interview date to be scheduled. Please let me know if I can help to answer any questions as I will be happy to if I know the answer. Best wishes to all.

  11. Approved! My minor stepdaughter's I-130 was approved on 4/5/16 at Potomac. The priority date was 1/13/16. Not sure if it processed so quickly because she is a child so the background checks were not as intense. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you still waiting for approval. I waited 11 months in 2012 for my husband's approval so I understand the pain and agony of being separated from your loved one. Hang in there! Wishing you all the best.
