  1. I'm visiting my family in the UK for 3 weeks with my 5month old baby. My husband won't be coming as it's just far too expensive to all go & he's self employed so doesn't get paid vacation time either :(

I am on my 2 year permanent resident card & my baby has a U.S. Passport, my anxieties are, (aside from travelling alone with a baby etc):

    1) Entering the UK - can I still go through UK residents even though my son doesn't have a UK passport?

    2) Should I bring his birth certificate?

    3) should I bring a letter from my husband saying he is ok with our baby travelling out of the country?

    4) Returning to the U.S. - I've not yet travelled on the permanent resident card, is there anything else I need for re-entry, any forms at all?

    Wish me luck please!

  2. Hello. My advice is to do whatever you think is best. I knew in my heart I wanted to have the wedding I dreamed of and that was not at the courthouse (not that there is anything wrong with that--I know that the important thing is the fact that you're joining your lives). I wanted to get married in the church I grew up in and have a wonderful party with all of our family and friends in attendance. We were very blessed with our timeline, so blessed. We started working with our vendors about 7 months before our wedding, and a few weeks after we submitted our K-1 paperwork. We had incredibly flexible vendors and ended up changing our date 3 times! Get everything in writing--and work with vendors who won't charge you to change the date. We sent out our wedding invitations as soon as he was approved for his visa and got married once he'd been in the states about 2 months. Everything was just as I dreamed it would be.

It is possible. It's a lot of work, a ton of planning, and a lot of prayer---but you can do it! Our wedding video below is proof. Best of luck to you! -Ashley

This really is proof of what you can achieve, a Beautiful wedding! I hope mine will be just as beautiful.

It's 2 weeks until my interview now for K1, so I am starting to discuss contracts with my chosen venue & starting to choose caterers etc for our Wedding in just under 2 months time. I obviously won't book my flight until visa is in hand, but my timeline is looking very promising after so much patience that we will have the wedding of our dreams & more importantly be about to start the rest of our lives together at last.

  3. Starting to get really frustrated with NVC 2 weeks after receiving our NOA2, my fiance phoned after 1 week (13th May) and got through to a very rude man (after being on hold for 1 hour!) & he just said it's too soon to call.

My fiance called back today 2 weeks and a day after NOA2 and got through to a lovely lady who gave us our London case number and told us it had arrived at the US Embassy in London on 16th May! So it must have already arrived & probably left NVC when he called last week, so why didn't he tell us this!?

Don't loose faith if you're getting no where on the phone, one day it will be the answer you're looking for!

  4. This is all great advice, thank you all for posting and contributing.

I am new to the forums, and receieved NOA1 March 25th, I am from Birmingham England and will be attending London Embassy.

Is there a list on here of everything I am required to do/prepare when NOA2 is received, we really want to get the ball rolling and be prepared as soon as NOA2 arrives!

    Thank you!

Sorry just saw this, but someone else answered your question already, I've quoted it below (hopefully) if you hadn't already seen it.

  5. You should send off for it well before your NOA2, get the ball rolling, mine took a month, but I applied for it 5months into the process.

Also, whilst we're on the topic of planning ahead for UK (London Embassy), you can get all the forms printed out & ready to go when you receive your Packet 3 it just tells you to go the the London US Embassy website to print them off. Mine are all filled out ready to be dated & sent. All you have to remember to do is check the forms haven't been updated between the time you printed them & date you received packet 3.

Go to your doctors and ask for a copy of your vaccinations/immunisations ASAP too, mine took them a week, though I'm sure some do it there & then. (new receptionist I think, a bit clueless)

Also get your US fiancé to sort out sending you the Affidavit (needs to be signed by them) & his evidence (tax transcript I believe).

We have only just had our NOA2, but I'm crazy organised (perhaps a little obsessed), everything is in hand ready to mail back the instant I get packet 3.

    Happy journeys all

  6. Oct 18th... Got a stupid RFE, I know other October filers getting RFEs but not many approved. Sent back what they asked for on the same day we received it so hoping RFE-approval doesn't take too long.

I think you December filers are probably looking at July for approval.

Hang on in there everyone, I know when you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with you want to start the rest of your life now, but we have no choice but to be patient. I am busy sewing bridesmaids dresses & anything else I can do ahead of having a date & venue.

  7. Congrats on such a fast NOA2!

As above, send for your Police Certificate asap, you need someone official to sign the back of your passport photo (teacher, solicitor etc that has known you for last 2 years at least) acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx (mine took about 2 weeks to get back after mailing)

Go to your doctors and ask at the reception for a copy of your immunisation/vaccine records for visa purposes (mine took a week at least, but some will print it there for you)

Go to the US Embassy in London website to print and prepare all your forms london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html (the letter you will eventually recieve will just tell you to do this, so you might as well have it ready to go!)

If your fiance just recieved the hard copy, that means it has probably just about reached NVC, by my studies of the timelines (I've become kinda obsessed with being over prepared & knowing how long each step will take...ahhh!) it will then take another week to get to London Embassy, then around another week at least until they get round to mailing you packet 3.

Make sure you read the checklist of documents needed for the interview, these include the original of your birth certificate, any past marriage/divorce certificates and very importantly your fiance needs to get the Evidence of Support (Affidavit of Support) to you in the mail along with tax reports form I-134. (all this is one the US Embassy London website).

So if you print and fill out the forms (except the date to do once your recieve the letter) you should be able to mail it back to them the same day you recieve it (to save time).

You need to have your police certificate & vaccine records for the medical, so once you have them in hand and have the LON case number, then you can ring and book your medical.

Looks like it takes a month from you sending your forms in until receiveing a date for interview. Generally from NOA2 - Interview its 2-3months average.

Annoyingly we got an RFE for a very silly mistake - my fiance missed writing his name on the back of his passport photo! But I am all ready for the next stage and hoping things speed up!

  8. Thank you for the response

Now I'm enlightened, thank you so much

We had the same notification last Friday & my fiancé called to check & they were useless - said nothing had changed on their system... Then why did we receive the notification?! Anyway I'd searched on VJ and seen lots of people that have been in the same situation before, some contacted soon after, some still heard nothing for months.

In our case, this Tuesday we received an RFE, booooooo, but the letter arrived on Thursday & it was a simple fix, so mailed it straight back, now hoping for a quick NOA2.

Best of luck & hope yours is good news soon, although frustrated to get an RFE, at least it's some sort of progress after 6 months of nothing!

  9. I wish VSC actually was steady....but there are days when there were NO approvals...and some days with one...not very steady in my opinion....

You have to remember of course that we are only going on the data of those on VJ, the real number of approvals in a day is unknown. I wish everyone going through these processes were aware of VJ, as it's been such a help for me and I feel sad for people out there going it alone, I don't know how I would cope.

We've just passed the 6month mark at VSC & received an email from USCIS on Friday saying "address has been changed in relation to your petition". We had not sent in a change of address so my Fiance (in the US) phoned & asked to speak to Tier 2, whether he actually was passed on or not is another matter, but they said no changes had been made...so why did we get an email? They also said they were still processing JULY! Thanks to VJ we know of course that they have done many past July, but I guess if there are some incomplete July petitions, that's what they have to say!

My last rant is, how can they state we are within their posted processing times, when the posted time says 5 months & we've been waiting 6? Or if they mean the date posted when your petition was received, I still know we have passed that too!

Every time I receive an email, my heart leaps a little in hope, not sure what it will actually be like when it really is the email we're waiting for!

Oh, in case other beneficiaries don't know this, on USCIS website, you can create an account to also receive email updates as well as your fiance.

  10. All past processing times as posted by USCIS are here on aila . org

Make sure you read the dates correctly as the date it was posted is not the same as date of 'processing time as of' - this is on the document itself just above the table.

Not sure how much it will actually help you though, I think all we can do is have patience, annoyingly. Good luck
