  1. Hi all,

I'm a USC currently living in Montreal with my husband (a Russian citizen). A few weeks ago, I emailed the Affidavit of Support package to the NVC. I received an email today saying they couldn't process the documents since I hadn't opted-in for electronic processing, but that I could opt in if I wanted to. I sent the opt-in email, but was wondering if I have to resubmit the Affidavit of Support package after I receive confirmation?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

  2. Hi all,

My dad is acting as a joint sponsor for my husband (the intending immigrant). I am planning to include my husband's assets (savings in our Canadian and his Russian bank accounts) in my I-864 application. should my dad include my husband's assets in his I-864 as well or should he leave out my husband's assets since I already listed them in my application?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

  3. Hi all,

I'm filling out the I-864 for myself (petitioner) and my husband (beneficiary). We live in Canada, and have a bank account in Canadian dollars. I also have a US bank account in US dollars, and he has a Russian bank account in Russian rubles. I was wondering how on earth we should list this on the I-864? Is there some sort of official foreign currency converter that we should use? Or should we list everything in the original currency (I'm assuming no, since they want you to add up all the assets, which would require a uniform currency)?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  4. Hi all,

I was wondering if you can still expedite an application through the US Consulate in Montreal? (I read this guide by one of the VJ members, which says you can: http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/NVC_for_Montreal_Beneficiaries_%E2%80%93_Electronic_Processing_and_New_Online_Forms)

If so, should we email Supervisor Sue at NVCElectronic@state.gov or is there another email address for her? The guide doesn't mention another email address.

I'm asking because my husband and I are currently living in Canada, but only as temporary residents - our work permits expire on December 31 of this year. He's a Russian citizen, so he can't stay in Canada without a visa. We're still in the process of gathering documents for the AOS and the DS-260 application, and we probably won't be able to get the police certificate from Russia for another month. We're really worried that he might have to go back to Russia and reschedule the interview there (which will take another few months and a couple of hundred extra dollars).

If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks so much!

  5. I'm currently living in Canada with my husband (who is a Russian citizen). We're in the process of filling out the AOS applications. My father will be a co-sponsor/joint sponsor since my income is not high enough to meet the poverty level.

My question is the following: We're living at separate addresses now (husband and I are in Canada, my father is in the US), but it's likely that we'll move in with my parents when we come to the US. Should my father therefore fill out the I-864a form (since we'll be in the same "household") or should he fill out the I-864 (since we're not currently living in the same household)?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  6. Hi all,

I was wondering what's the average wait time between submitting the Affidavit of Support and D230 and the notice for the embassy interview? (Also, when you receive the notice, how far in advance is the embassy interview normally scheduled? So for example, if you get the notice for interview in October, would it say that the interview is scheduled in November, December, January?)

I'm asking because my husband (who's a Russian citizen) is currently working in Canada. We are hoping to have our interview at the US Consulate here. However, his contract ends at the end of December. We're worried that we might have to leave Canada before the interview is even scheduled here. We're also worried that we would have to reschedule the interview in Russia, which would further delay the processing. (We haven't sent in the AOS or D230 applications yet.) There is another option of changing his status in Canada to "Visitor" after his contract ends, though I'm not sure if it will be approved.

Does anyone have experience with this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
