  1. Send an email to the IV unit to see what the hold up is. If they have already issued the visa then that means it has been processed, printed, and should on it's way to DOMEX if not at DOMEX. It is going to take them at least 2 days to get back with you. Make sure to include beneficiary full name, birthday, and sdo case #. I would continue to call DOMEX and check their website while you wait to hear back from the Embassy.

It is not in administrative processing, the DOS says the visa was issued. I emailed the IV unit and they responded with the following:

"The visa issuing process takes time, please contact Domex again tomorrow.

    Regards,"

But I called Domex again and they still have not received it! And man, calling Domex is a pain, I can almost never get through, and my fiance has gone through like 6 100 peso phone cards trying to get through to them with the list of numbers they give you! My fiance has a flight for the 22nd, I am really hoping the visa gets to Domex in time!

  2. My fiance's visa was approved last Tuesday, December 11th. We paid the Domex fee and got the receipt, planning to pick it up so we could get it faster! We still haven't heard anything from Domex. I called DOS today and they said the visa was issued on Thursday, December 13th, but I called Domex and they still have not received it. Any ideas on how long this might take at this point? Or suggestions of who to contact? My birthday is Sunday and I would REALLY like him to get here by then!

  3. Congrats on your engagement. For my packet, I only sent 5 photos, copies of passport stamps, and some phone logs from rebtel.com, the calling card service I use. At the actual interview, I brought a bunch more photos, updated call logs, and passport stamps. In the end, our interviewer didn't ask to see ANYTHING! She didn't even ask to see the affidavit of support. She asked us three questions, and said we were approved. (Granted, I had lived in DR for a year and a half before filing the petition. It doesn't hurt to be prepared, but I really don't think you need to go as overboard at some people do!

  4. I am filling out the DS-156 form online right now, and the Dominican Republic website says:

"Fill out Form DS-156 (Nonimmigrant Visa Application) electronically and print two (2) copies. You must fill out Form DS-156 online, each application will generate a specific barcode for each printed form."

Does this mean I only electronically submit it once, and just print 2 copies of the form it generates?

  5. In the DR petitioner MUST appear or visa will be denied or interview rescheduled for petitioner to be there. Depending on where the POE is i.e FLorida, or New York. There may not be a lot of spanish speaking individuals in the airport to assist with directions. Those two states sure they will have no problem. But if it is some place else like Atlanta, or Philly and the beneficiary's english is not the best then yes it could be a problem. As everyone in the DR does not read and speak english...and those that can speak it, may not necessarily read and comprehend it that well. So I get the OP's concern.

I will DEFINITELY be attending the interview!! I just may not be able to wait until he has visa in had to enter the US. He will be entering at Newark, and that flight is always jam packed with Spanish speakers. He will fly direct so as not to have to deal with connecting. I just wanted to make sure he would be able to go through POE on his own. I will be waiting for him when he clears customs :) And thanks so much for the tip on the pre-loaded debit card. That is a good idea!

  6. My fiance and I have our interview scheduled for December 11th, however I have to return to the US by December 17th as I have to give a final exam to my college students (I teach 2 courses part time). I can't afford to fly back down again to accompany him back to the US. We have talked about this extensively and he says he is more than OK with flying by himself, but I don't know how that works at the POE then. Can I meet him there? What can I do to prepare him for POE. Any tips would be great!

  7. Hey everyone, I could have sworn that I read a topic here a few weeks ago about someone mentioning certified documents his SO needed from her Dominican Liceo to enroll in college here. Can anyone tell me what exactly my SO would need to enroll in a university here (he is a high school graduate, but has only studied one semester in the UASD). It would be great if he could get these now while he is still in DR, as opposed to figuring out how to get them later. Thanks!
