I have recently received my green card (through marriage). Prior to that, I have been on both F1 and J1 visas so have a social security number and have worked in the US in the past. Someone mentioned that my social security has a hold on it that I need removed now I have the green card. Is this correct? If so, how do I go about this?

I'm originally from the UK and am currently a grad student in the US on an F1 visa. I married my wife (a US citizen) two weeks ago and she took my name (her married name appears on the wedding certificate). How far along in the name change does she have to be before we can apply for the green card for me. We just receive our wedding certificate in the mail today and she's going to get her change of social security card this week. What else do we need to do before we apply?
