  1. It now depends entirely on you. How prepared are you with all the papers and how fast you submit everything. Normally it takes 2-3months to get visa interview once your case reaches at NVC stage, given that you submit all the papers ASAP. So read the NVC shortcut suggested above and start working on financial papers, tax returns, w2s, employment letter, PCC, marriage cert, birth cert etc... Good luck.

  2. No you don't need to go to local police station. All you need to do is go to Passport office and ask for PCC. They already know what to do. I guarantee you, passport office already knows the process. Someone from Passport office will send police officer to your home for verification.

  3. You only need Police Clearance Certificate from your local passport office. You need Police Clearance from police station only if you have criminal records in the past. http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9215#docs

    Police Records

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

    • All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office.
    • Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.
    • Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.
    • Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.
    Prison Records

Available. A person who has been incarcerated may obtain a prison record from the State Inspector General of Police, or from the Police authorities of Mumbai, Kolkata, or Chennai, or from the Superintendent of the jail in which the sentence was served.

  4. Congrats!

If you don't mind can you please provide some more information? Does the petitioner live abroad or in the U.S.? What is your local service center? Did you receive any RFEs?

    Thanks!

Sure.. I am the petitioner and I live in US. My petition was transferred to Columbus Field Office. I got RFE to submit marriage certificate and i got approved very next day after they got the cert. Good luck!!

I was on skype with my baby and she got the biggest smile on her face.. Loved it.. Onto the next process.. God is great.. Good luck to all of you.. This forum gave me strength to keep faith in the system and it paid off.. Thanks all the VJers..

  6. Hello VJers, I have read a lot of topics about requiring to meet your fiancee face to face before filing for K1. But in my case, me and my fiancee met each other face to face for the first time about 3 weeks after I filed for K1. Anybody knows or going thru similar situation? Pls provide some thoughts. I feel kinda stuck because we're now 4 months past in the process and waiting for RFE or NOA2 or something. I hate losing any more time, but will have to understand that i may have overlooked one of their silly condition.
