  4. Canada exempts US Green card holders from visa requirements, it doesn't matter if the green yard if conditions have been removed or not.

Most, if not all other countries outside of North America do not waive visa requirements for US green card holders. Whether or not the green card has conditions or not has no bearing on obtaining a tourist visa for another country

Thank you so much! It's a very clear answer! I was a little concerned about the conditions of my Green card, what if I am not considered as a GC holder since mine is only for 2 years etc, but I am happy to hear that conditions are not related to the tourist visa process for another country.

Actually I just found this link from Citizenship and Immigration Canada http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcentre/answer.asp?q=593&t=16 and it states "As a (U.S. Green Card holder, you do not need a temporary resident visa to travel to Canada. At the Canadian border, you will need to present your valid passport and Green Card"

I am happy to hear that my husband and I can go to Canada together :)

You are still a national of Mexico and all visa requirements apply (except Canada). Some transit visas are not required with a green card but that is about it. The good news is your green card will make obtaining a visa much, much easier.

    Thanks a lot!

  5. HI!
I am mexican and I have a CR-1 visa, I would like to visit Niagara Falls in Canada since we live close by, and I have read that to visit the Niagara Falls if you are a green card holder you don't need to get a visitor's visa.

Is it possible for me to visit other countries with my conditional green card? or do I have to stay in the US until I remove the conditions?

I have a conditional green card (2yrs) and my mexican passport. For Mexican citizens, travelling as a tourist requires to get a visitor's visa, but since now I am reside in the US I don't know if this applies as well to me.

    Help please!

    Thank you so much!!

  6. Hiya, I arrived in April

Got my Welcome letter about 3 weeks later

My Green card about 5 weeks

Even though I checked the box stating I wanted a SSN on the DS-230 form it never arrived so we went to the social security office last week and applied for one.....that arrived after 3 working business days!!!!

Can relax a little now 18 months ish before the ROC part!!!

Thanks for your response :) oh now I feel like I was panicking for nothing lol

I checked the box as well in the Ds-230 form....maybe just like you did, I will go to the office to apply in person

So I guess I will wait for my green card to arrive and then go to the SS Agency :)

I would like to start working soon since expenses are a little big compared to my country's standards but I guess job searching will wait a little longer than expected.

  7. we have an IR1 - same as CR1 essentially except that CR1 is conditional and you will need to apply early to remove those conditions....

But for the sake of the ssn# this shouldnt matter.

Since you have waited 3 weeks from POE (?), then go ahead and take your passport with the visa stamped in it (it will be endorsed of course from POE) and go apply in person at the SS office.

They will provide you assistance - dont worry - they cant refuse you; they can suggest more docs - but atleast you know.

The above is what i plan to do with my wife.

    good luck

    Thanks for replying.

You are right the CR1 needs to remove conditions later :)

At the POE (port of entry) they put a stamp in the passport, the visa is already in the passport because they stick it at the U.S consulate/embassy

Yes it's true hehe at the office they may suggest the docs that are missing if that's the case.

    Thanks :)

    Good luck

  8. Going through the same exact thing as you worry, so try not to worry too much.

I did an IR-2 visa from Mexico. It took 3 weeks and 2 days before I received any welcome notice from USDOJ and i ended up getting like 4 separate copies of the same notice :) 3 days later, received her green card.

I called the ssa office locally, and they said standard time is 30 days from the day the POE receives paper work.

I decided if i don't hear back in a week (when 30 days are up), i am going to local office to apply. Says it takes 2 weeks for card to arrive from date you apply.

Oh really? Perhaps this week the welcome letter might come in the mail . I was starting to feel a little worried :P I read that it takes 15 business days from POE day but well 30 days is not too bad,. If not I'm gonna call the office to see what they say :)

    Thanks for your response!!!

I would first wait tp get ur gc my wife and i ran into the same problem. However all we took with us was her passport and gc to the local ss office and filled out the papers for one and had it mailed to use wihin two weeks.

Yes, I think once you have the GC is easier :)

    Thanks for replying

  9. Hi! I just moved to the USA with my husband, I have a CR-1 visa and I have been here for 3 weeks, I have checked the box to receive a SSN when I files DS260 form, I haven't received anything in the mail: No welcome letter, no GC, no SSN ....

I have read that if you don't receive it after 3 weeks you can go to the SS agency and file in person. I was thinking of visiting the office soon, but another question comes to my mind, Do I need an EAD? I have read the requirements, and I don't know if I need it, or if I have to wait for my green card first....I am very confused. HELP PLEASE!!!

  10. It doesn't really depend on the fact if you are from Mexico or not, the processing times are different to everyone, in my case it took almost 1 year from Noa1 to the interview date. We had no RFE at any part of the process. Now it seems to be a little faster since the cases are sent to the National Benefits center and not to California or Vermont service centers, like a year ago.

You will need a lot of patience no matter what, but hopefully your process will go quick.

  11. My Fiancé's interview is in May. We'll be taking interjet as well! I'm very excited! Sure you guys will do great! Best of luck with your interview!

Really? That's pretty awesome! :) Another interview on May woo hoo!! Good luck on the interview, I am sure that everything will go smoothly for you and you will get approved!!! :D

We will go to Juarez on May too :D I am the one who will go for the interview but I am really happy that my husband will be there with me :luv::luv:

  12. He can enter the consulate he just has to wait in the waiting area.

Here are some helpful interviews to help you through the process that another member of visa journey posted.

That is awesome! Thanks a lot for sharing the videos

My husband and I have watched them, and we just booked our flight tickets to Juarez  we will fly with Interjet, since it's cheaper than Aeromexico, and we had really good experience with them when we flied last year for our honeymoon.

I went and I'm glad I did for a number of reasons.Just woke up from a nap my fiancés visa was approved this morning.I just waited in the waiting room pictured above. She was gone about 2 and half hours and said the actual interview was less then ten minutes.I wanted to go to support my future wife and make her feel more comfortable and in case for some reason they need to talk to me I would be there. It cost more money sure I had to take off work and tickets were not cheap 550.00 dollars roundtrip airline tickets each from Tijuana(we bought our tickets six weeks out). They really take advantage of the people cause there is only one roundtrip flight(on Aeromexico not a cheap airline) and any other options just to save a little over 100 dollars you have to fly to Mexico City or Guadalajara first which would add lots of time to a flight or I could we could take a bus which would not be fun and take me away from work her son for more days.My fiancé is originally from Monterrey Mexico which is an hour farther and we have been there four times and flown from Tijuana and four that price it paid for both of us and her son.So they are taking advantage at least where we live in Mexico for people going to Juarez for there visas.

I was glad I was able to support her help her out in anyway and be with her because of any worries weather it be regarding safety here in Juarez or if they needed to talk to be at the interview or to keep her company for the four days when we she was not at the medical clinic or the consulate.

We will have to stay in Tijuana another month before we can move to the USA though so I can earn more money for rent and the movie to San Diego,California but for both of us it was worth it that I went.

    Congratulations on the approval!! :thumbs::thumbs:

  13. To be honest I haven't heard of many cases being denied due to that reason. That's just what some people have been saying happened to others, while they were waiting for their Spouse's to return from their interview. I've heard from others that they didn't ask if the Spouse/Fiancé was there at all. If you can't go it shouldn't make that big of a difference in the approval/denial of the petition. Always depends on which official is giving the interview I'm sure. If you can it's always better to be safe than sorry. Worse comes to worse, if there's no way you can get there you can always send your spouse a letter explaining why you aren't there or something along those lines, incase the interview official asks. But I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially if you have enough provided proof of relationship. In that case they may not ask. I learned a lot of the information on the Reviews: Embassy/USCIS & POE on this site in the menu above. You can look at the comments from peoples experiences at the embassy the interview will take place at. Maybe that will ease your mind a little.

    Best of luck.

    Thank you so much!

Yes, I know what you mean, sometimes it just happened to 1 user and that doesn't mean that it's a general rule...that's why I was wondering if it's very common that it happens.

In my case, my husband is a 90% for sure to come over to the interview, it just depends on the flights availability hehe, of course we are a little worried about the safety in Juarez, but it's OUR process and we are together in this, so he will do his best to come with me to the interview, even though we know that he might not be allowed to enter to the consulate.

I completely agree with you: it's always better to be safe than sorry!

I am going to check it out the reviews, THANKS!!

    GOOD LUCK IN YOUR PROCESS!!!
