  1. Hello!

I have similar question. So I have my Green card, SSN etc with my new american married name but my finnish passport is still on my maiden name. My passport is still valid almost 4 years so I really dont need to get a new one just yet -expect the name issue of course. Im travelling to Finland on this coming summer and Im scared that they dont let me back to US if I have my passport and GC on different names. On the other hand, if I would get a new passport while Im in Finland, then I would have my tickets on different names and airlines are crazy about that: the tickets need to be on same name all way long.

So you guys think I should be fine coming back to US with GC/passport with different names as long as I have my marriage certificate etc with me?

    Thanks for the help!

Ooops, it posted it twice. Sorry :)

  2. Hello all!

We filed in early February as well, did my fingerprints on mid-March, couple weeks later got RFE for missing tax-information, sent it back right away. Case updated to "review to RFE". Received my EAD-card on the end of April. Updated my address on July, and our case went from "review to RFE" to "Initial Review".

Couple weeks ago I received a letter saying our case is possible interview-waiver aka interview is not probably needed BUT however they may still change their mind and ask us to go to the interview.

Very informative, wasn't it? :) Well I guess the only informative part was that we should get decision in 6 months after receiving that letter.

    Waiting game continues.... :)

Good luck for everyone and congrats all who already have got their GC!! :)

  3. Hello everybody!

Im K1visa holder and we are about to send out the package when it comes to adjust my status. So we have the form I-485 to apply my GC, form to apply work permission and permission to travel. But how many pictures I should send with that package? Instructions in here say 2 but is it 2 for whole package or 2 for every form so total 6? I have got different advices so now Im confused.. :(

Thank you all for your help!!

  4. Oh boy, getting in to America is so complicated!!! I guess I just will drive with my European lisence.. If I don't drive, I'm pretty much wrapped to my house cause here is not public transportation at all. I just hate to carry m passport all over, I'm scared to loose it, or if someone would steal my purse in the bar or so.

I based my experience to opening account to my own experience. I used to live here for 1 year when i was working and my company helped me to open account with UMB-bank. On that point I just had my passport. After I returned to Finland, I didn't know that my account went to minus-balance; just for like 40$ but before I got the info of that, they already closed my account since it was minus more than 30 days. In that time my fionce paid it off right away and they promised to re-open it when I'm back in USA. Well we tried, but then they told me that they don't accept passport anymore, needs to be American ID. So otherwise there wasn't problem to open it again, but they wanted to see American ID. And since I didn't have it, they told me come back with that and they would gladly re-open it... So that was my experience. Now I don't know what I should do. Maybe join to my husband's bank account? Using my Finnish card is not expensive at all, but still would like to have local card as well.

  5. Hi! I'm also living in MO (Springfield) and I was just about to go next week to DMW to apply driving license. So it's not gonna happen and I need to drive with my European license, is that correct? How about opening a bank account etc? Cause I know many banks only accept American ID to open account. So am I now pushed to keep using my Finnish bank card etc until I will get my GC? :( is this only for MO DMW? Cause I now I have friends living for example in Virginia and they got temporary driving license for 6 months with no problems...

    Thanks for answers! :)

  6. Nah, don't worry about the medical - it'll be fine! I am having my medical next week, and for some reason, I am still quite relaxed about it. I know it is easier said than done, but try not to stress out about the whole process, it's simply no good. It'll just make the process even harder than it already is. Just try to be looking forward to the time when you and your fiancé are together again!

As for the date, just put in some tentative date for November. That is what I did.

Thanks for your support! Im trying not to freak out but Im close! :) Medical in two days, results in on a week... After that I will feel more relaxed! Im not too worried about interview -yet. But I will LOL I have had interview before with my J1-visa, but that was kinda different case; now its gonna be pretty much end of my world if my visa would get denied. :P

I put tentative date in November as well. And I said I will pay my trip myself, Im not sure yet how we gonna do it. I may pay it or then my fionce. Depends which one of us has more money then ;)

  7. Yep, it makes sense :) Thank you all for your support and help. I put "myself" and 20th of November, although Im thinking Im gonna fly at the latest 10th of Nov but since I dont know yet my interview date, I didnt want to look like Im too in rush :) Im getting more and more nervous all the time. Will have my medical in two days and will send my packet3 to embassy shortly after that. Then I just will wait both results and invitation to interview...

  8. So I can just put myself and be okay? Cause I may end up to buy the tickets or then my fionce will. It depends which one of us has more money in that exact moment LOL And we dont know the date yet... I dont wanna buy them before I know I will have visa for sure. Im thinking my interview will be in 2-3 weeks and I will leave maybe 2-3 weeks after that.

  9. Hello all!

Im wondering what should I answer for that question when it asks who is gonna pay for my trip. Me and my fionce have not booked the tickets yet and we are not gonna do that before the interview. So we dont know excact days yet and how we gonna pay it. Most likely my fionce may buy them, and then I will give him part of it.. But since I dont know yet, what should I answer?

    Thank you :)

  10. Well, actually I just filled out a completely new form and put a tentative date in. I also noticed I had made another mistake in the form, so I corrected that one too. Ugh, I will be so glad when this is over!

I SO know how you feel!!! Im so glad when this is over. Im stressing out of medical now, scared they will find out something which will deny my visa or so... And then I did that little mistake in my DS-230 form, and I was so so mad for myself! Like Im already stressing out and then I need to have more things to stress out! Im gonna fill my DS-156 today too. Hopefully then I dont make any stupid mistakes.

So im thinkin to fly out somewhere early November, I dont wanna book my tickets before interview etc so I can just put a day somewhere over there on November?

  11. Maybe you can e-mail your embassy about that? They will ask about it on interview I think, but I would say that doesnt cause any serious problems for you. Since we are humans, we do some typos too... So they may give you some RFE and some time to fix it.

I just personally made mistake too, when I filled and sent out my DS-230. They asked about residence and I accidentally put a wrong year, 2011 instead of 2010. The month is right, but Im freaking out about it. Im thinking to e-mail my embassy and ask instructions about it...

    Good luck with your journey!

  12. Oh thank god Im not alone... :) And Im sure we are not the first ones who has done these kinda mistakes... Im sure we can fix these, I think they SHOULD be just minor failures. One finnish guy just told me that in his hand filled forms he had different place of birth city for his dad than in his official birth certificate. And no one said anything in consulate. And I just had one number wrong god dammit! :)

Did u ask instructions from your embassy or did u just decide to do that? Im thinking to e-mail them but Im not sure is it worth to bother them with this kind of problem. But yeah it worries me a lot, so maybe I could get some peace of mind...

  13. Thank you!! It was in my additional sheet; i checked all the others and they were just fine. Im just scared they will deny my visa for giving them a "wrong" information :( So should I still e-mail them and let them know or just wait until interview? This is so stressfull.. And we are just humans, we do those little mistakes.. But im just freaking out about everything now.

  14. Hello!

I was just going thru the copy of my DS-230 what I sent for the embassy on last week... And now I noticed, that when I put my latest residence of question 30, I accidentally put year 2011 instead of 2010. The month is right but I put a wrong year! :( Im now already so stressed out that everything is correct, and now I made this tiny stupid mistake. I know, this may be just overreacting, but should I let embassy know or just leave it like it is...

    Thanks :)

  15. Thank you! Yeah we do have that number we use with all national stuff and transactions... But I was thinking does it apply in this case. I asked from one finnish guy who just finished this process and he just said they followed the example forms here and he remembered he just put that "none". Well but I dont think its not really matter though I guess. They cant really do anything with the number in Embassy though, cause they cant get to finnish national databases :)

  16. I have the same problem!! Or almost... So I have changed my address temporarily during the visa process (that was when my papers were already on the way to Finland) but changed it back to the address which is in the original I-219F. But due some technical problems or so, when I changed it back to my original address, it didnt update back to my information. So yesterday when I picked up my birth certification (here in Finland it has the current address as well), it still showed the address I changed for temporarily ( so different address than in our K1-applications). I changed it back immediately via Internet so I need to go and pick up new, updated birth certificate. My concern is, that since I didnt notice that my address chancing had not taken a place earlier, I sent my first DS-230 form to the embassy with kinda "wrong" address (the address I have in my I-219F) last week and now my new birth certificate what I will have, will show that I just moved to that address although I have been there during the whole process except that few weeks little time ago. Im just worried they will tell Im lying or giving them failure information or so. Or do they care? The city of living has been same all the time, just address has changed.

Thanks :) Hopefully you guys understood what I meant :)

  17. Hello everybody!

Im bout to fill the form DS-156 on the Internet, but when I was studying the form in here, there is a place to put your "national identification number". According the Visajourney example form, there was "NONE". In Finland we do have like a national social security number; should I put that or my passport number or that "none" which is in the example form?

Thank you all for replying!! :)

  18. Thank You all. :) I sent a message for one finnish guy who just approved for K1 in Finland, and he told me that packet3 comes via regular mail. I think I may need to e-mail my embassy and let them know that Im still out of the country, maybe they can wait a little bit before sending it for me. I need to see what they would recommend me to do.

And yeah CSC is really fast now!! :) Like it! :)

  19. Hi everybody and thanks for this great forum! :)

I have little weird question maybe -but our K1 petition was accepted 08/07/12 in only 82 days in CSC! They rock! My problem is Im still visiting my fionce in USA and will be until 09/11. While visiting my mails have been delivered here cause Im here for 2,5 months and during that time there is other people living in my apt. My question is what should I do about that? Should I let my embassy know about this, or does that packet 3 will come here to USA as all my mail at the moment? That would be kinda stupid :) Have looked like NVC has been superfast to deliver papers to embassys, didnt even think that could go so fast! :)... Just dont want to loose any important notice! I will be back my address again picking up mails when I go back home.

    Thanks :)
