  1. My wife and I are happily married for 2 years and expecting a baby in November of this year. She is not good with legal or medical documents and always asks me to take care of it (which I'm fine with because I am very detail oriented).

She is conditional permanent resident from India, which she received from K-1 visa then we were married in USA. We just submitted i-751 and her permanent residence was extended, we are awaiting an interview date. The USCIS website does not recognize our receipt number, and when I tried to speak to human at USCIS, she would not give me any information unless she can speak to my wife (I am at work, wife is at home).

I guess I understand they think some abusive husband might try to find out where his wife is or whatever, but it's like they are treating me like a criminal based on nothing. Same thing happened when I tried to find out when my wife's OBGYN appointment was (they needed to talk to the wife). My wife likes when I talk to people on phone because sometimes they speak too fast or she doesn't understand exactly what they said, and she is too shy to say that sometimes.

I just wanted a place to rant. I don't like being treated badly, I love my wife and perhaps giving someone the benefit of a doubt once in a while shouldn't be a bad thing. I think these people are just so paranoid about psycho ex-husbands that they treat all husbands like criminals.

  2. I am asking what happens during and after the K1 visa interview at US Embassy in New Delhi. According to the information posted here it says you don't receive the visa same day, but it's stamped next day?

Does that mean they take and hold on to your passport and after they stamp it, they send via courier or post wala?

It seems like we have experienced difficulties using post wala, as her packet 3/4 were opened and unsealed when she received them. It's like they opened her mail.

I'm just wondering what happens after the interview since our flight will be 1 week after interview date, and I'm hoping the passport is not mailed through regular post because it might get lost.

  3. You're welcome, make sure you keep this number because even after the interview you can call the DOS and check up on your case. Anything the consulate enters into the system they will be able to tell you. Best of luck to you on your interview!

They sent me a scan of the letter being sent out confirming our interview date. Turns out they do eventually reply by email. It sucks waiting for answers, but with timezone differences and all it's understandable.

I'm hoping this interview is still on schedule despite us not receiving packet 3 yet, they say it's on its way. We are so happy that we will be together in 4 weeks only.

  4. Have you tried calling the DOS (202-663-1225 option 1 then 0) to see if the consulate has received your case and if an interview date has been issued or if a packet has been sent out. Not sure how your consulate works but if you call the DOS they can at least tell you if they have received your case. Best of luck to you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you...

After calling the DOS, they said that an interview has already been scheduled for January 10, and that she will be receiving her packet in mail soon. This is great news! Thank you, this # should be a sticky, since it's very confusing what happens after it leaves NVC.

Thank you, I will try this in a few minutes.

Have you tried to email the IV Section at the Consulate?

I have tried emailing not the IV section directly but the "support-india@ustraveldocs.com" address. I can't seem to find IV section of the New Delhi consulate email address.

  6. Hello all, I am wondering if there is anything I can do on my end (USC) to speed up consulate processing and get an interview date in the next month. We have all paperwork completed, DS-156, DS-156k, DS-160, DS-230, I-134, and all other materials we will be required to have for interview besides doctor visit and paying the visa fee. I tried contacting the Consulate several times but they were not helpful at all. They will not give me any information, even regarding when we will receive packet 3. I really want to go be with my fiancee and her family for Christmas, if I'm not there, she will be heartbroken. We received NOA2 on Nov 8, and received letter from NVC on 21st Nov.

Everytime I try calling the consulate it just goes to their "automated service" and it seems there is no way to speak to an actaul person. Is there anything I can do so that we can get an interview in the next month, when I'll be there?

Please help and thank you VJ members.

  7. I'm the US Citizen and my fiancee lives in India. We should probably go to the doctor before our wedding so we have some kind of plan in place since we are only 25 and not ready for kids. My question is regarding Health care options for my fiancee, since she won't be able to join my insurance policy until we are married (using K-1 visa we will be married in US).

Is there some kind of health insurance I should purchase for 1 or 2 months before our marriage here, or should we just do the doctor visit in India? She lives outside of Delhi, UP, and I'm guessing health-care is not bad there. I'm not sure if it's as good as in US, but what do you think our best option is?

I really want to avoid "barrier method" protection for our wedding night and honeymoon if I can help it. I'm unsure about the hormonal pills and patches also, but it's looking that way.

Anyways, I think the only way to do that is to visit the doctor, and without her having insurance, I'm guessing the cost will be very high. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
