  1. Dear All - We had selected the option to receive SSN as part of DS 230 form during NVC stage of our CR1 application. It has been more than 2 weeks since my wife has reached US, but we have still not received her SSN. Does anyone know if we need to apply for SSN separately or applying as part of DS 230 works? Secondly, how long does it typically take to receive the SSN in mail?

    I would appreciate any inputs.

    Thanks

  2. We completed our interview successfully from Mumbai Consulate as shared earlier. Here are the questions posed by CO during the second interview:

    How did you two meet?

How long have you two known each other before getting married?

Have you got parental consent for your marriage?

How long your husband been divorced (it is second marriage for both of us)?

Does your husband have a child? What is the type of custody does he have?

Have you interacted with his child?

What is the alimony and child support provided by your husband?

How much does your husband earn?

Why did your marriage break down?

    Do you have a child?

What is the child custody status?

Will you be working in US?

Was the marriage according to Hindu tradition?

  3. Dear All - Thanks all for your quick responses. We were able to get our passport yesterday from VFS location in Bangalore!! But it was a herculean task as it is a complete mess at this office. They did not have a clue on where the passport was, how to track and locate it. We were lucky to finally get through them and find our passport.

This begs the question, why they take Rs. 300 to deliver to our home address whereas it still gets delivered to VFS office? We plan to write to VFS/US consulate on our overall experience so that they can fix this for others in the future.

A quick question, do we need to stand in US Citizen/Permanent Resident line at POE in US or should my wife go through the other line.

    Thanks

  4. Dear All - My wife's Visa (CR1) was approved last Friday and she paid Rs. 300 at Express Service Desk for passport delivery where she was told that it will be sent to home address. But US travel docs web site shows a VFS pick up location. We are based in Bangalore. Can someone with recent experience comment on whether we can expect this at home or need to pick it up from VFS office?

This is URGENT as travel day is this Saturday. We would appreciate your quick response.

    Thanks

  5. Dear All - My wife's Visa was approved last Friday after an interview which was quite a grilling according to her (15 min, this is second marriage for both of us). She paid Rs. 300 at Express Service Desk for passport delivery where she was told that it will be sent to home address. But US travel docs web site shows a VFS pick up location. We are based in Bangalore. Can someone with recent experience comment on whether we can expect this at home or need to pick it up from VFS office?

    Thanks

  6. Dear All - My wife's interview is this Friday and I am traveling to be with her :-) I have some questions:

    a) As a US citizen spouse, will I be allowed inside the consulate? I read on the forum that we will not be allowed, but wanted to confirm.

    b) As per - http://travel.state.gov/pdf/supplements/BMB-SUP-ENGL-0002-1209.pdf (Page 3), it appears that we need to submit DS230 Part 1 & 2 - We had submitted this during NVC stage, Is this still required?

    c) I do not see Mumbai consulate interview schedule listing our case number and interview date as has been noted by others. Do you see this as any problem or we should be good?

Thanks in advance for your inputs!

Good luck to all in your visa journeys! I am glad that our 6 month+ wait is finally getting over.

  7. Dear All - Do we need the IRS tax transcript for the interview (my wife will be going for interview in Mumbai consulate) or a tax return will do? I am having challenges in ordering tax transcript from IRS (have ordered online a couple of time, but have not received it in mail).

    Thanks for your inputs!

  8. This means that once you are notified that the passport is ready for pick up, you need to pick up the passport from the above mentioned pickup location. They will not deliver at your address. This is a free service, no fee is associated with this.

If you want the passport to be delivered at your address, after the interview you need to go to the premium services desk and ask them to deliver the passport at your address (a fee is associated with this, for our location its Rs 300).

Thanks for your quick response. Is this service desk at Mumbai Consulate?

  9. Hi All - As some of you have noted in this forum, the new process requires us to register on ustraveldocs web site for Passport delivery once the Visa is approved. Even though it takes our home address, the delivery is hard coded to an address below for Bangalore (seems very strange and illogical):

Prestige Atrium 2nd Floor Unit No. 304

    No 1 Central Street

    Bangalore

Can someone confirm that they had the same experience for Bangalore? Also, what is this address for? There is no name associated with this?

    Thanks

  10. Dear All - My wife will be traveling to Chennai for her medical appointment (IR1/CR1 Visa). We have taken an appointment at The Apollo Heart Centre (156 Greams Road, Chennai 600 006). Can you share your experience at this place (how much does it cost, vaccinations given, when is the report shared? etc.).

Also, please share any good hotel accommodation near this place.

    Thanks

  11. Congrats so far in the process. It is good you informed The NVC of changes. but, your case is not at the NVC anymore. It is pending an interview in her Country so it is not complete. Call the Embassy and inform them of a new # and also re-confirm her e-mail address and it is a matter of record. Though it maynot be neccesary there are 52 cards in the deck and leaving out 1 is short handed. NVC has nothing to do with your case at this point. Call that Country with her information, Case# etc. and update your Case information to be safe. I think your OK but make the call. You'll sleep better.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried calling the consulate in Mumbai (well, at least the help desk associated with the consulate). But they were not able to look up my NVC case number in their system. Any suggestions from folks who have gone through this in India/Mumbai?

    October Cases Waiting on Interview:

  13. Dear All - My wife is waiting for her interview date (IR1/CR1 category) and we had some questions regarding the medical examination prior to the interview. She does not have any medical records for her vaccinations.

How will this be handled during the examination? Will they just assume that she has not received any shots and give all of them? Should we consult a local doctor who can possibly take blood test to determine the vaccinations that are already present?

Finally, as per consulate web site, the approved centers for this examination is in Chennai and Hyderabad. Is there any center in Bangalore (she is based in Bangalore)?

    Thanks

  14. Dear All - I have submitted I130 application for my wife who is based in Bangalore currently. We have got NOA2 and are waiting for NVC case number to be assigned.

I was looking at interview schedule on Chennai US consulate web site (http://chennai.usconsulate.gov/appointment_schedule.html) where they are listing schedule till only Dec 2011. Is there any issue with this consulate or have they just stopped updating the web site?

    I would appreciate your inputs.

    Thanks!
