  1. A..Let me make it as clear as it was explained to me and which the regulation bears out: So long as the K-1'er does not depart ("depart" is also defined in the reg.) the US after making a legal entry s/he can travel to any other location which includes the USVI, PR, Guam, Hawaii, and Alaska.

The inspector I spoke to gave clear examples. (My alien fiancée) can enter the US and we can fly directly from the mainland to the USVI. We can go wherever we want on the islands so long as we don't "touch" ground or water not under US jurisdiction. When we leave she shows her K-1 and I-94 to immigration (which shows she legally entered the US) and off we fly directly to the mainland. However, if while we are there (USVI) we decided to take a trip to the British islands then she would be denied re-entry. I know I used "directly" in this example but we could fly "outbound" mainland-PR-USVI and "inbound" USVI-PR-mainland without fear because in this case she never "departs" the US.

Inspectors (both mainland and USVI) told me that this is not an unusual occurrence. They see K-1'ers all the time.

I just spoke with Customs & border Patrol on the phone and they confirmed this.

  2. Just take the medical one or two days before the interview.

My fiancee's interview is tomorrow. She did the medical this morning. She picked up the results this afternoon.

I was worried that she scheduled it too close to the interview, but when she called to make the appointment, the attendant insisted that doing it the day before the interview was absolutely fine and she would have no problem getting the results in time.

I guess she was right, although if I had to make the same decision again, I would still have scheduled two days before the interview just in case (there is always something that can go wrong)

  3. Nobody is freaking out here. I just get sick of the mass amount of anti-American sentiment everywhere I turn on the internet. The last place I want to see it is here. This isn't the first time a topic got hijacked on here and centered on negative American stereotyping either. Maybe, my national pride makes me different? I can appreciate your sense of humor, no harm done. I am with you on the road rage (maybe :P ) About the "foreign policy thing", we all have 'em. Ours that many despise is the same one that helped many others, but this is straying far from topic and into politics. Don't want to go there. When I go to the Philippines, it is far from what the USA is. Therefore, it is different. :ot2: Some people are rude, OP violated TOS.

Agreed! I just love to laugh. and I did (especially at myself). Take care and have a great weekend!

  4. I do embrace MY differences. This has nothing to do with what I stated though. Human beings can be rude or helpful. Rudeness is not exclusive to Americans and certainly doesn't make us stand out as "special".

Not at all, actually I wasn't JUST talking about rudeness, now that I think about it, I wouldn't say we were more or less rude than anyone else (excluding things like road rage - we own that one - oh and that whole "foreign policy thing", but come on, we ARE different. Come on, I know you want to agree. I know you do, just a little.

by the way before you absolutely freak out, I am totally just messin with ya. Just my special American sense of humor rofl.gif

  5. What probably happened is someone clicked the 'report' button to the side and bottom of your post/topic. It usually only takes one click to get the mods' attention. Feel free to click it for any post you feel is inappropriate, and they will review it.

Umm...no..how about sticking with "yes there are members on this board that are flat out harsh and negative." Has nothing to do with being American. Thanks for not generalizing us. :)

Oh cmon, I grew up in Kansas from a mixed couple (just like barak!). I am as American as anyone could possibly be, but even I know that Americans are different. I learned that the second I took my first international trip. after the 5th or 6th, I was absolutely convinced. We are definitely "special". and thats cool. Im still USA till I die, even if I move to France. My fiance always teases me about my "American sense of humor". Embrace our differences. Just like you have embraced your fiancee's.

  6. I LIVE IN ASTORIA. I LOVE ASTORIA! Sorry for shouting.

My fiance is moving here from Russia in a month. She actually used to live in Cairo.

Anyways, you shouldn't have a problem. Astoria (and all of NYC for that matter), is very diverse.

Check out the area around Steinway between Astoria Boulevard and Ditmars. There are tons of Egyptian places as far as restaurants, etc.

    See: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=egyptian+food&find_loc=Astoria%2C+Queens%2C+NY&ns=1

Astoria park is amazing. I actually spend over 4 hours a day there with my dogs (after working 10 hours). We live right on the park. Plus, I have met lots and lots of friends in that park (I like that word - plus).

The commute to Manhattan is generally quick, especially if you are just going to midtown. I work in Lower Manhattan so my commute is 1 hour each way. That is my only issue with where I live. I actually thought about moving to Brooklyn to be closer to work, but I really just don't want to leave my friends. Get ready - Astoria is awesome and in my opinion one of the best places in NYC to live!

  7. So my gifted attorney signed the DS-156 form at line 40 and used the wrong date format. The form specifically indicates that the format should be dd-mmm-yyyy. He used d/mm/yyyy.

I am probably nitpicking, but just to be sure, I ask - Is this a problem?

I know that we insist on doing just about everything in the US differently than the rest of the world (d/m/y as opposed to m/d/y) but I really want to be careful to avoid ANY mistakes or problems that could mess this up.

Like a couple of crazy people, we have scheduled the wedding 3 weeks after our interview date. (When we were making the arrangements, we thought we would have plenty of time to spare, but unfortunately that turned out not to be the case)

I would have moved the date but it's a big affair. And now I am rambling.........

So - dates: Does it really matter?

  8. cant you just use your 2011 returns? It may be cutting it close but just submit them, and if the tax season comes up before the interview, simply get a tax extension and provide the embassy with that for 2012. You can email it to her the day before the interview if you like, they dont have to be originals. Am I off on this guys? It seems to me in my "4 beers in state" that this is not even a problem. 9 months from now, (which is about the time frame for the k1) is May. What's wrong with the extension?

  9. We started planning the wedding last October and was (optimistically (foolishly)) planning the date in April of this year. Well if you look at my timeline that was laughable. Fortunately for us, we are having a private ceremony and although we have a contract, the ceremony is so small we were easily able to reschedule for July (again - laughable). I realized soon that this date was also not going to happen. It was probably just annoying for them, but they allowed us to reschedule a 2nd time for the end of August. That worked out to be just over 2 weeks after the interview at the consulate.

So yeah, we are still pushing it, but I think that by honestly communicating our challenges with the hotel, they were accommodating given the advance notice. Just don't BS yourself and try to think that everything is going to move perfectly smoothly like I did. I think that if you use the timeline averages you can realistically plan for something and be relatively safe (barring any crazy things happening that would hold up your application any more than anyone else's) I think that a 90 day window of guess-timation could work out. But that is the irresponsible guy in me talking.

  10. Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for the usvisadocs.com website to recognize your receipt number after you make a payment with a credit card via the online portal for the Moscow consulate? I got my receipt number instantly, but the usvisadocs.com website says that:

"No valid record can be found for the entered receipt number. Please validate that your receipt number is correct and that you have paid the correct amount for the visa which you are applying for."

    Thoughts?

I know........ I need to relax.
