  1. We went to local USCIS for AOS interview. Interviewer said everything was in order except he could not find her medical exam. When we drove home my wife said she thought she had seen it at home. She dug through her papers and found a package. When she gave me the package, I realized for the first time that she had the whole package given to her at the consulate. Luckily, the package had a page stamped with a stamp from the airport (LAX) indicating they received it. In other words, the guy at the airport gave her the consulate package back, containing everything we had supplied to the consulate. We then gave the package to our lawyer, who delivered to the local USCIS officer. Its now been about a month since her interview and nothing. What a debacle.

  2. I know I have read lots of advice here about not setting travel plans, buying plane tickets until visa is in hand. Of course, I chose to not heed this wise advice. So, for crazy people like me, I need to know what the normal turn time is from successful interview to receipt of passport in mail with Visa inside. I know , or at least think I know, that you the beneficiary will leave passport and pre-paid envelope. Thanks.

  3. I am hoping my fiance will have her interview in Bangkok around the end of June. Assuming we are lucky she will have her visa shortly after. I am looking for suggestions on buying her plane ticket as inexpensively as possible. Aside from the travel date issue, there is the second issue of only needing a one way ticket. I know it is $250.00 to change dates on international flights. Thanks

  4. Chad...Listen up...here's what to do:

    1. Your I-129F petition just got approved by the USCIS. In about a week or so, start calling the National Visa Center (NVC) every day until they give you your MNL case number. You have to talk to a human at the NVC in order to get your MNL case number.

    2. Once you have your MNL case number, your fiancée can pay the visa application fee at BPI.

    3. 4-24 hours after paying the visa application fee at BPI, either of you can schedule her Embassy interview appointment. You can schedule the interview appointment either online or by phone. Print a couple of copies of the interview confirmation.

    4. Once you have scheduled an interview appointment, your fiancée can complete her medical at St. Lukes. Most people complete the medical a week or two before the interview. St. Lukes runs on a walk-in basis only. Pre-register online on their website and take a couple of copies of the pre-registration form to the medical. To be admitted for the medical, bring along the Embassy interview appointment confirmation printout from scheduling online. If you scheduled the Embassy interview appointment by phone, bring along the confirmation email.

    5. Don't wait around for the Embassy to send your fiancée a letter telling her that she's eligible to schedule an interview and giving her instructions on how to prepare for the interview. If you wait around for this letter, it will cost you a month or more. Instead, follow the above steps and it will speed up the process. You can read the Embassy instruction letter and start getting prepared for the Embassy interview by clicking here: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/manila/19452/public/Revised%20K1%20Instruction_rtf2_005.pdf

  5. 1.) Sin Sod is a bona fide part of Thai tradition. You should confirm this by doing some research online, as you are here. 2.) Just do what you can in terms of your budget. Your fiance is probably Buddhist and will accept your decision and not apply a negative judgment to you, since doing so would not be Buddhist. Everybody's finances are unique, so just do your best.

  6. You can call NVC and get the case number, but it wont do you any good dealing with the embassy in Bangkok until the embassy receives your petition. Since you have your NOA2, you will be getting a letter from NVC very soon with your case number on it. Your case number will start with BNK2013.

Thanks again for the info, sir.

  7. Since you are K-1, there is nothing for you to do at NVC. Your K-1 petition just makes a quick stop there on the way to the Bangkok Embassy. No expedite required.

Thank you,Karee. I was freaking out reading about all the people on this site calling 20 x per day to NVC.

I learned a lot today. I will get my packet 3 stuff ready and launch at the first moment.

Gotta get my wonderful woman here for the Great Oregon Summer.

  8. Agreed. We had already downloaded it and compiled before we got notice of transfer the the Embassy. As soon as we did, we had ready to go via EMS. Once they sent notice of Packet 3 we sent it the next day and 5 days later received notice of the interview for a week after that!

Hi, I am one step or so behind you and trying to figure out what to do.

I do see that I can start working on the packet 3 list from the embassy site.

I am wondering if I am supposed to be calling NVC and if there is something I can/should do to get from NOA 2 through the NVC stage and to embassy.

    Thx

In K and immigrant visa petitions approved by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in Bangkok, applicants should download the visa packages from this web page. Receipt of an I-797 Notice of Approval from USCIS does not indicate that the case is pending with the U.S. Embassy. The downloadable documents below are provided solely for those who have cases pending with the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok. Please do not send any of the documents below to the Embassy unless instructed to do so.

Thank you for this. read and printed the instructions for 3 and 4.

  9. I am trying to get specific information about NVC case # and interview in Bangkok. Some members tell me to go to Thailand forum. Not sure how to find info here specific to Thailand. Thx

  10. Yes, it is embassy specific...for the Philippines as well, the case # is almost worth it's weight in gold, as you can then pay for and schedule an embassy interview and go to do the medical exams without having to wait for the file to reach the embassy.

Check your regional forum embassy guides for more information, as I only know my fiancee's countries' steps (I'm selfish that way).

Thank you. That helps me a lot. I am so envious to hear that with the case # you can get interview scheduled and med exam rolling in the Phillipines.

I guess I am still a bit confused about some of the stuff I have seen on here about the calling process to NVC actually gets NVC to do something.

p.s. Did you get hard copy of the NOA 2 in mail yet? I dont' have mine and neither does my lawyer. I am a 4-20 NOA 2 approval like you.

  11. For some people it's just a case of knowing where their file is and that it's been actioned.

For others, like UK beneficiaries, having the case number means that you can book the medical (with the proviso that you don't want you medical results to reach the US Embassy in London before your case does from NVC!).

Wow, thanks for info. I will try to figure out if having hte case # helps me expedite process in Thailand.
