  5. Okay, so we finally purchased flight tickets for the 24th so my fiancee will be here then.

When she lands here in the United States, she'll be going through San Franciso international airport as her Port of Entry. We know to bring the Visa Packet to show at POE, now in terms of being able to file for social security number and doing our adjustment of status.

What does she need to bring in terms of important documents?

I just know perhaps her Birth Certificate and thats pretty much about all I can think of, what else should she bring?

Another question about the cellphone, so when she arrives here, I want her to be able to contact me because she'll be on a layover in San Franciso for about 7 hours, I hate not having any way to contact her since she doesn't have a sim card that works in the U.S.A.

She does have an unlock GSM iPhone, at first I thought about sending her a sim card but its a little too late now since it won't arrive in time for her to fly, how did anyone go about doing this? I heard of companies at the airport that can provide her with a simcard but that's very unclear. Someone got some tips or info?

    Please and Thank you's =]

Regarding AOS refer to visa journeys guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

Here's a link to the Social Security office's website. This shows what documentation she'll need in order to obtain a SS Card. (Be sure to click the noncitizen tab on the left hand side) http://www.ssa.gov/ssnumber/ss5doc.htm

I don't know what you can do regarding the cell phone situation but airports do have public payphones which are available to use..

  6. Okay so I contacted a family member to see if they could get my records on my behalf and they were pretty sure they wouldn't of been able to so they decided it wasn't worth the try. I ended up calling my GP in England today to see if they could send a copy to me somehow but turns out they were unable to help me.. They said that I would have to be registered with a Doctor here in the US and the doctor would have to request the records from them directly.. So i'm kinda running low on options here.. I have made an appointment with the USCIS office to see if I can obtain a copy of my immunization records from them but if not, then I guess my only options are either get a blood test done to see what I've been immunized against or just get all the vaccinations again.. Right?

  7. Your shots need to all be on the DS3025 or on an I-693. Because you didn't get the tetanus recorded at Knightsbridge, the whole record needs to be done on an I -693. You don't need another tetanus shot if you have a copy of you record from the GP. Can you or a family member get a new record of all your shots from your GP at home? Whatever you took to Knightsbridge can be given to a civil surgeon. Or contact the interviewing office and ask if they will provide a photocopy of what you turned in (DS-3025). A civil surgeon will accept a photocopy. That's all you mailed for AOS. The original was in with your medical files that Knightsbridge sent to the embassy.

So a civil surgeon can look at any number of pieces of paper documenting your shots...from your GP or from Knightsbridge or something from a drug store like a flu shot. That's what they do...compile one official record. Your civil surgeon might say you need a flu shot because it is now flu season. Had you completed it all on the Knightsbridge form prior to flu season, it would be fine because it wasn't flu season in September. Now you are doing a new record with a new doctor and he should require a flu shot.

Im not sure if I can obtain the records again from my GP in my hometown but I will try, if not then I guess I will have to try and obtain them from our interviewing officer like you said. If I need to get a flue shot then that's fine, doesn't bother me.

US civil surgeons designated by uscis are the only ones that can fill I-693 for you.

    Ahh okies.

  8. After having your medical in London you got a photocopy of DS-3025. The original was send to the consulate and from there, together with all other forms it goes back to you in an envelope that you hand in at POE.

Now when filling AOS you either send a photocopy (recommend to always keep a copy for yourself)of a photocopy of DS-3025 if all the shots were completed and form was filled correctly then normally you will not be asked to submit I-693 as you had you medical and all shots done.

IF at the time of medical your shots were incomplete and you chosen not to have them done at the medical you are required to get your shot done prior to AOS (either before or after entering Us) and having that transcribed onto page 5 of I-693. The civil surgeon will accept proof of vaccinations from abroad but you do need to show him either photocopy of ds-3025 plus record that your missing vaccine was done so it will be all marked as completed etc.

Now if you went to him with only proof of tetanus shot done, he cannot mark all other vaccines that you had done without a proof and you do need to have all the required shots done or show proofs for civil surgeons to be able to transcribe it and sign it off as completed etc.

As per your post you have no longer a photocopy of DS-3025 form? In that case you'll need to get your vaccines records from Uk (maybe you have them with you in us?) to prove all age appropriate shots were done and go back to civil surgeon so he can complete I-693 page 1 and 5 which you can then send to uscis.

Ahh okay. I chose not to get the Shot at the time of the medical examination as I assumed I could get one from any doctor (which is what I did instead of paying extra to get it right then and there) but I didn't have that transcribed onto page 5 of I-963 as I didn't have any specific instructions, I was just informed that I needed to get Tetanus vaccination and that's why I got an updated vaccination record to show that I got the Shot. That's correct, I no longer have the photocopy of the DS-3025 because I sent that in with AOS application. If I knew a photo copy of the photo copy would of been accepted, I would of done that so I could of kept the original photocopy. I do not have a copy of my vaccination records because I sent in the only copy I had (which I obtained before I moved to US) with AOS package..

  9. Okay so September last year I had my medical examination in London, UK and everything was fine except they told me that I needed to get a Tetanus shot. About a week or so later I went to my regular doctor's office to get one along with my updated vaccination records.Okay I just found that they give me a copy of DS-3025 at the medical examination and that's what I filed with my updated vaccination records for AOS. Were they supposed to give me a copy of the I-963? Me and my husband filed for AOS in July and we had our interview last week (5th Dec), it all went well until the officer told us that he wasn't able to approve us cause I didn't have a current Tetanus vaccination.. He tried telling us that the last time I had one was in 1996. I told him that I got one last year before I moved to the US and I even pointed it out to him on my vaccination records that I sent in. He told us that its not valid because it wasn't done by one of their certified civil surgeons so he told us that he'd have to put our approval on hold and go to on to the USCIS website to find a civil surgeon to get it done.

Today (Dec 10th).. I make an appointment to go get my Tetanus vaccination and get all the way down their to find out that i'm not able to get it because I don't have a copy of my vaccination records (I sent the only copy I had in to the USCIS so I don't know how i'm going to get them again) They said I need just page 1 and 5 of the I-693 (which I assume page 5 should of already been previous filled out to show my vaccinations) I did not have this so they said to contact the USCIS, more specifically the officer who interviewed us to see if we can get the copy of my vaccination records. I am not sure if I would be able to do this as its a part of our case file and they hold on to everything, correct me if i'm wrong or please give me some advice on what I should do about this. I mean the USCIS officer didn't give me anything to take to the civil surgeon for them to sign or anything he thought I would need (I guess he assumed that I would of already have everything that I could of needed) He just told us to find a civil surgeon and get a Tetanus vaccination and get them to send in the documentation proving that I got the shot. So yeah.. now I am confused on what I need to do. Help!

    Would appreciate any responses.

    Thanks.

  10. Hey All, Me and my husband have our AOS interview this Thursday (Dec 5th). I would like to hear some of your experiences about the interview as well as checking that we have the required documentation/evidence to ensure we haven't missed anything.

    Checklist:

We have the interview notice and ID's

Already submitted the Medical Examination Form (I-693) and updated Vaccination Record

Already Submitted Affidavit of Support and supporting evidence

I have documents establishing my eligibility for lawful permanent residency (K1 petition approval notice, marriage cert, I-94 etc)

Immigration related documents issued to me (EAD Card)

Document used to enter US (Passport, I-94)

    Mine and Hubby's Birth Cert

Evidence of our relationship. We do not have much to show as we do not have any bills together (in both our names) We live with his dad and rent a room but pay him cash.. so all the bills/house payments are in his dads name. Recently changed my name on our bank account to show my current name so there won't be a statement in time to be able to take to show the change and that we have a joint account although, I have a letter from the bank addressed to me with my current name on it. So therefore all we have to show for relationship proof are photo's and health insurance cards. Should we be worried that we don't have a lot of evidence? Could we get an RFE? Or if we explain to them the situation, would they be likely to understand?

Originals plus copy of documents submitted with application: For this the originals we're bringing are the marriage cert and both our birth certs. Copies of documents we're bringing include: copies of our birth certs, copy of my state ID and copy of health insurance card. Is there anything else that I should obtain a copy of?

All responses are welcomed and appreciated

    Thanks smile.png

  11. It's just a simple procedure of taking your fingerprints and photograph. Just make sure you take all the necessary documents. When I shown up for my original appointment the security guard would not let me through because I forgot to bring our marriage license (as I didn't think to bring it) to prove my name change so that it matched the name on the appointment letter. So that's my tip lol

  12. The expiration date of the I-94 does not matter, you just have to get married by that date. After that you have a 2 year period to apply for adjustment of status. I came to the US on 8 Nov. 2012 so the expiration date was 5 Feb. 2013 on my I-94. Me and my husband got married 19 Jan 2013 and we weren't able to send in our application for AOS until late July.. so the expiration date is nothing to worry about.

  13. So social security is saying that we have to give a specific reason stating why my husband needs a social security number before his work authorization. What should I say? It's his right to be issued a number.

Huh.. I don't recall being asked for a specific reason why I needed one when I first went and applied for mine. If they're giving you and your husband such a hard time about obtaining one right now then you probably should just wait till he gets his work authorization. I mean in my opinion if they're not granting him one, then it's not really worth the hassle and stress in trying desperately to obtain one right now when the truth is, he doesn't really need an SS number until he is able to find work. I mean the Adjustment of Status paper work has a box for an SS number if you have already obtained one but its not necessarily a requirement right now. If you really want to give them a reason in order to try and obtain one then maybe tell them that after researching online and stuff, its what it said to do or that in order to help your husband adjust his status, its better if he has an SS, I don't know.. lol.

Good luck, hope you figure something out.

  14. If you look at the instructions for the form I-486 http://www.uscis.gov.../i-485instr.pdf , it starts off with all kinds of people who can adjust status-- refugees, Cubans, fiancées. Each has a little different thing to prove they were eligible. So the letter you got is very generic to cover them all in one sentence.

So 3A is fiancé and says you had to be admitted on a K1 visa and marry within 90 days.

So you can show admission with your I-94 and passport with visa and show you married within 90 days with your marriage certificate. Well you've already submitted that stuff with the application so it's redundant to ask for it again. But it's a generic letter

Ahh, Okay. Thanks for clearing that up. Section 10.B. Shows evidence of eligibility for a K1 applicant :)

The other question is saying bring originals of whatever was sent with your application so they can look at the real thing. So yes the original marriage certificate, etc. If they already have a photocopy in the file, why bring another? But if you bring something new to the table like signing a lease together, then bring the original and a copy so they add the copy to the file. That's similar to the interview in London where you brought copies so they could return your originals.

Okay, I thought it might have been something along those lines but I wanted to make sure because obviously this is an important thing and even though they probably don't ask to look at every single piece of evidence, I want to be sure I have everything that it says to bring just in case.

I don't know your whole version of the letter, but they often say "Bring this list unless already submitted". You've probably already submitted all that is needed, except for maybe some new things that shows you have added joint things or photos you didn't submit before. The generic letter you get is usually overkill so don't panic over every word like it was personally written to you.

Re: Purple script. I use an IPad and it is very tiny. Plus I've got old eyes. It's pretty, but a strain to read.

Yes, for a few of the things it does say to bring it unless it was already submitted with the application like the medical examination form and affidavit of support with required evidence. Some of the newer things such as evidence of joint bank acc etc. we are going to make sure to bring. I know that it was a generic letter so I wasn't necessarily panicking about it, I was just unsure about what they meant about those two particular statements but thanks for clearing those up for me. I appreciate it :)

Hmm.. that never came to mind (being on a tablet device such as an IPad) so I can see now how it would be difficult to see/read

Thanks for all help though :D

  15. Well I don't know where or who you heard that from but I guess that is still one option but if you got married more or less right away, then your husband should of been able to apply for a new card because the I-94 last 90 days. Here is how the K1 works though: When it is first received, the person who is coming to the US has 6 months to do so because that's how long is it valid for.. but once they enter the US, it is only valid for 90 days because you have to get married within those 90 days. Therefore once you get married the K1 is no longer valid but the I-94 I think is still valid until the 90th day. What I looked up/heard is that you should wait at least 2 weeks after the person arrives to go apply for a SS card (which is what I did) Then after you get married, go back and apply for a name change on the SS card. This didn't work out well for me and my husband because we got married towards the end of the 90 days, therefore when we did go back to apply for a name change the I-94 was less than 14 days from expiring so they couldn't issue me a new card. I finally went back to the SS Office last week because I have recently received my EAD Card and I was able to apply for a name change this time.

If they wouldn't allow him to apply for a name change on the card right now then you might have to wait till down the road when he gets his EAD Card.

    Hope this helps.

  16. Lol... I apologize. I've always used that kind of font and color in the past and has never seemed to be a problem but here is the re-post in default:

"I apologize if I posted this in the wrong area. Feel free to move to where I would obtain a better answer (If not in this Forum)

Okay me and my husband recently got our interview notice about our up coming AOS interview and I was looking over the list of things that it tells us to bring and I am a little confused with a couple of them.

"Documentation establishing eligibility for lawful permanent residency"

    and

"Original plus copy of each supporting document that was submitted with application"

The first one, I don't get what kind of documentation that they are talking about as it doesn't give examples on the letter.

The second one confuses me because does that mean for each supporting document that was submitted with the application, do we have to bring the original and a copy to the interview? OR if we submitted a copy with the application, does that mean to bring the original to the interview? or vice versa. Or what?

Please help ease the confusion so me and my husband can better prepare for our upcoming interview.

Any/All responses are welcomed and appreciated.

  18. Many congratulations to you! I am still waiting for my interview o the 9th(Embassy tried to change it last week to a later date so have no hair or fingernails let) and my poe will be Chicago too. Will you let me know how you get on at passport control?

    Many best wishes xx

Just added a quick review of my POE at Chicago so it's there if you want to give it a read. :)

  19. You know people are saying 'Police Certificate and copy'? Do they mean just a photocopy of it? Or a further official Police Certificate? I thought that the Police Certificate was handed over at the medical? Does the doctor keep it and send it to the consulate or do they give it back to you after the medical?

I know I am far from having the interview yet but I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row in advance (I do feel like I'm quacking up though - and making awful puns - sorry).

Yeah, just means a photocopy of it. The Police Certificate and a copy is also required for the medical - they take both but give the original back.
