    Hello everyone

how much time the oath ceremony will take? From arrival to departure? My oath ceremony is tomorrow at the river-center in Saint Paul

I heard it is a big venue and I am wondering how much I have to wait till they call my name and give me the certificate??

Yeah, mine is at 9:30 AM tomorrow (August 8th) as well - I'm planning to be there parked and everything nothing later than 9 AM, probably earlier. I live in monticello, so it'll be a hike,.. my whole family is coming with.

So after the certificate I'm planning on updating social security and apply for passport? anything else I'm missing?

  2. Hey guys,

my interview was today (6/5) at noon and it went super smooth

I work in Eden Prairie, but today, I went early. On Wednesdays I run with a run club downtown Minneapolis, so I just stayed downtown after that and then parked myself at Starbucks in City Center and worked from there for a couple hours. My interview was at noon, so at around 11 AM, I went back to my car, left my laptop in my car and started for interview location (250 Marquette Ave Minneapolis) -  my car stayed at City Center parking ramp but there is parking around it. This is what the building looks like:

I got at the building at 11:30 AM and didn't wanna go right away and wait. there was a barbecue food truck right outside the building. So I decided to quickly have lunch. Nothing speaks like America than barbecue pulled pork. it was yummy

    image.thumb.png.57787fdb11c0d4a88241a499528bc853.png

I got at the office at around 11:45 AM. Security was simple. Before security, the guard did want to see the appointment letter. Had to remove my belt and watch, but not shoes. I could have brought my laptop too, it turns out.

After that I went to registration and they only wanted to see my appointment letter. Then they took my picture and finger print scans of right and left index fingers.

Note: At the USCIS office, there are windows where it appears they conduct some kind of interviews. That's NOT where naturalization interviews occur. You get a number and then they announce the number over PA. It seems like they could also show the number on TV, but that wasn't working. Also the PA volume was low, so keep that in mind.

The wait was not super long, around 20 minutes. At around 12:10, they called my name. My interviewer was very warm and nice. We went to the room and he wanted to see my passport, driver's license and green card.

Then he made me take the oath that I swear that I'll tell the truth and nothing else, before me taking a seat.

He then started asking me questions about my application, where I live, am I changing my legal name (I am, but that wasn't reflected in the application, so he made that change), my previous addresses (one of the address was wrong so he corrected that), where I work (my title changed since application, so he changed that), my wife's name, daughter's name (application had that I had no kids, so he changed that as well).

He then asked the yes/no questionnaire about my eligibility (have I committed crime, have I ever been deported, part of a communist organization.. etc). all these questions are part of the application as well. I said no. He also asked if I have ever been prince, or sat on an iron throne.. I said *spoiler* it doesn't exist anymore.. he said, I know and i have some opinions about that... then he asked me if I'll accept the constitution, pledge loyalty to the flag, bear arms if country wants me to.. etc.. I said yes.

Then he went to "reading" test - I was asked to read out out "Who was Abraham Lincoln?"

then he went to writing test - he asked me to write "Abraham Lincoln was the President during Civil War" - which I wrote. I had to write this on an ipad which was stuck to the table using a tech pen which had a pretty thick ball. So it wasn't easy to write.

Then we went to Civil test. I was asked to answer 6 out of 10 questions, if I answer 6 right away, we won't have to continue. While it wasn't a timed test, he did say that take about 10 seconds to answer, if you can't answer say pass and we'll come back to it. Weird, but okay.

    Questions:

    1) Who wrote Declaration of Independence? Answer: Thomas Jefferson

    2) Name one state that is connected to Canada. Answer: Minnesota

    3) Where is statue of Liberty? New York Harbor

    4) Which month do we vote for President? Answer: November

    5) Who's the Chief Justice of United States: Answer: John G Roberts

    6) How many senators do we have? Answer: 100

After that, he said I passed, reviewed everything I discussed. I signed it on the iPad as well. He then said, he's going to recommend me to become a citizen and my oath ceremony invite will be sent in the mail in 2-4 weeks. He also mentioned that Oath ceremony would probably be in August or Sept. After that we went back to discussing Game of Thrones and our combined disappointment in last couple seasons. He then congratulated me and walked me out.

On my way out, I had forgotten my water bottle which he ran and returned it to me.

Pretty easy. He did say that this was pretty easy, right? no scary ICE Agents?

My application also updated on uscis.com right away (not my account though, which is weird)

Good luck to rest of you all!

If you're applying based on the 5 year rule you shouldn't need to bring your spouse. BUT I would still bring all evidence of relationship from the past 3 years. Since you did obtain your permenant residence by marrying a US citizen. Dont leave anything to chance. It's better to bring everything and not need it then to not bring everything and then get a RFE.

I agree.. That's why I submitted ALL the possible documentation I can find :) - will take those with me, just in case. I came here on H1B and my extensions were very much intrusive.. so I'm used to it.. thanks.

All, has anyone seen this in myAccount.uscis.dhs.gov?

    Estimated wait time:

We are taking longer than expected to process your case. You do not need to do anything at this time.

YES! i just logged in to check my status. It used to show April 2020 as estimated completion date. now it seems they've taken that away and Estimated Wait time = ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Congrats to all who got their interview letters and oath ceremony all scheduled!

  5. Biometric done today.. my appt was at 11 AM. I reached there at 10:46.. 2 people ahead of me.. within 4 minutes, they called me in.. took a picture in which I look absolutely horrendous. they had me scan only the right hand 4 fingers, then the system did a search.. I'm assuming it found me, as the officer was then like "you are done, thank you!"

I walked out of there at 10:58, still 2 minutes before my appointment. they did gave me a booklet for the civics test, which was nice.

    Now, I wait.

  6. Hey guys.. Just got introduced to this thread.

I'm in Minneapolis and I applied for Naturalization on 7/14/2018. I did apply online and upload all possible documentation - from passports, GC, to my wife's birth certificate, kid's birth certificate, their passports, mortgage documents, tax returns, W2, all my H1B receipts and approval letters, insurance cards..

My estimated completion date is May 2020 (22 months)

However, I got biometric appt letter on 7/21/2018 (in a week!) and it's set up on 8/6/2018.

So, the pace is good and bad? I have thread on questioning the estimated completion date (22 Month N400 Wait Time), but since here you guys are tracking MN applications, I wanted to throw my name in the tracker as well.

    thanks!

Don't worry about that at all. I filed online March 22nd and had my ceremony on July 11th. While waiting for my ceremony (which was scheduled for the aforementioned date), the timeline showed like Jan 2019 on there.

Also after I passed my interview in early June, it still showed April 2019 as estimate. So basically, don't worry about those dates too much.

SWEET!! Congratulations!! and thanks - that helps a lot

I hope it moves faster for you, but generally, Minneapolis is one of the slowest - if not THE slowest - local USCIS field office in the country.  Currently showing 14 - 23.5 months for N-400, about the same as an I-485 (13 - 25.5 months; 10 - 14 months for employment-based applications).  AOS interviews are taking 1+ years to schedule, so it might be that N-400 is somewhat similar.

But - here's hoping it gets better, and that your application will be approved quickly!

Are you guys in MN too? That's awesome.. What does your estimated date show online? About AOS interviews, a friend of mine in Chicago is experiencing the same thing? Did you guys get your biometric done?
