Hi guys ...

So i took a flight in the early morning to Mumbai today and was in front of the consulate before 8am. The VFS guy (With a serious attitude) was sending applicants inside for their interview. I went and explained my situation. He was like wait until 8am and then come to me, I'll find out. So at 8am, i went up to him, the vfs guy on his walkie-talkie called some VFS OR Consulate guy (definitely Indian) inside and explained my situation. The guy from inside said that i (the applicant) should go to the VFS and submit the documents and passport again to get the Envelope Resealed.

I tried convince the vfs guy outside for atleast 10 mins, but in vain. So The US Consulates in India work with VFS only...Do Not go to the Consulate directly. I was prepared for anything which is the reason i went to the consulate...thought of taking a risk. I wasted my money but that's ok. No regrets.

So i went to the VFS application center at Tirupati Apts,opp Mahalaxmi Temple. I explained my situation of opening the sealed package, the guy over there went to his superior and came back.

He said Sir,you didn't take any documents out, did you?...i said No i didn't, all of them are intact. Ok Sir, just submit the package along with your passport, we'll forward it to the Consulate and you'll receive the Re-sealed Envelope and Passport within 3-4 working days (These were the Golden words for me). That seriously relieved all the pressure i had from 1 day.

So I submitted all the documents and passport, Paid Rs 393 for courier services.I'm just hoping and waiting for the documents to arrive in 3-4 working days. Hope the package will be sent to me as told by the VFS employee. Fingers Crossed

I really thank each and everyone here who took time and helped me out. Visa Journey was so so helpful to me from the start of my Cr1 process.

Moral of the CR1 (Immigrant Visa) process - DO NOT GET OVER EXCITED AND FORGET THE RULES AND REGULATIONS. FOLLOW EVERY SINGLE RULE TO THE LAST MOMENT. DO NOT COMMIT A MISTAKE AS STUPID AS MINE.

In your case, it is second day, you can have it sealed, BUT, you can be asked to pay IV fee one more time.

It can also take some time too...

I read some many cases but not in Mumbai. The 4 or 5 cases I read about the embassy took the package and people had to wait like a month until it was send to the person again. They will check your package again just to make sure if is intact and re envelope. I know that having your visa is really excited but you have to be very careful the next time : ) my advice is not to scheduale any flight until you got your package again. I read a case about a girl in my hometown Venezuela, she went through the same thing and she already booked her flight for the next day after she got her package, she had everything ready including all her suitcase and then she had to wait a month, cause she opened it! I hope that Mumbai will be different and have it done the same day! The best of luck!

I'm flying to Mumbai in about 5 hours to get this sorted with the consulate. Hoping for the best as I am taking a risk to go, And I have to see if they will ask me to pay the fee.

I got my CR1 Visa Approved. I received my MAIL through VFS-Blue Dart. As soon I got the envelope I looked out for Passport and in the excitement I also opened(well it was half open) the Yellow Sealed Envelope accidentally . I realized after opening it & I was very aware of this sealed envelope but got diverted today and I was just waiting to get the passport & visa approval!!! after facing some issues with this long visa interview formalities, trips to mumbai consulate twice, re-sending docs,,etc. It's very unfortunate that it happend to me :|

Well I called up VFS right away and they told me to come back tomorrow(friday morn) and they can help me with this kind of situation.

I went over some of the posts here on VJ and Google and didn't find right info

All i want to know is..if something like this happened to anyone before?

Can I go to Mumbai Consulate and get it SEALED on the same DAY?

Or

Should I submit it through VFS Again ? How long will it take? A week, two weeks or more than that???

Could you please please give any suggestions

Yes you should go to Mumbai as soon as possible and take interview letter from the consulate. U need to go to Lilawati hospital. You will get the reports on the following day. hope this works out. Good Luck !

Im posting on bhlf of my hubby:)

He's on his way to Mumbai,,After many calls to Mumbai,Delhi consulates & VFS helplines.we got a fax no from the consular in Mumbai(emergency services staff). my hubby sent the fax explaining the situation to the given faxno!. And guess WHAT!!! they sent the Interview Letter but the TWIST was it was just few minutes before his train departure....Damnnn!!!!!

As soon as he reaches, he will be going to Lilavati hospital in Mumbai and I hope he gets his medical done before he goes for his intrview on July5th.

As you mentioned they will give the results following day, do you think they would consider it as emergency situation and give his results the same day..???

Did it work for anyone..please post your feedback..

NVC and VFS are not the same. You or your spouse in US should call National Visa Centre (Department Of State) and let them know about your situation. I'm sure they will e-mail you appt letter and packet IV.

me& my wife have filed for i130 peition in New Delhi in December 2011.Mumbai Consulate is handling my case according to my case#

My Spouse has spoken to NVC in Portsmouth,NH,U.S.A this morning ,,they said they don't have access to applicants who've filed overseas.

Is there any other number than that? the lady just ended up giving my wife the USC services # in Mumbai/Delhi.

I called Mumbai #, they've given the same old answer to give EMAIL TO VFS.

VFS Mumbai Cus Rep said , the concerned dept didnt receive my interview letter and they cant provide me anything.They want me to go to the interview with all the email transcripts and without medicals.

If i go to Mumbai early and if i get my interview letter from the consulate(Not even sure if i can get it)..would i be able to get my medicals done in Mumbai ???

Even i have my CR1 Interview appt in mumbai consulate on 5th of July. I Already did my medicals on 15th June as i had received an e-mail of interview appointment letter from NVC.

Here's what you can do.

- in mumbai consulate website download the interview appt schedule pdf in which all the case numbers scheduled in july are listed. take a printout and go for your medicals.

- Or call NVC helpline number immediately and tell them you haven't received any appt letter yet. They should be able to help you and email an appt letter right at that time.

Hi mightyarch....I already downloaded the interview schedule from the consulate website and went for medicals...but they refused as they wanted the official interview letter. And about calling NVC helpline- which is VFS helpline ... i have done that a number of times (emails & calls)...all they say is ...we have forwarded the email you sent and waiting for a reply from the consulate...once we get a reply ..we'll forward that reply to you...Nice that you got your interview letter through email...I have a bitter luck i guess in terms of Appointment letter

I have never heard anyone able to get a visa without getting their Medical exams done. It's sad that due to Mumbai consulate's mistake you have to suffer with this issue.

I remember my sister-in-law had similar issue with her K-3 visa. (Yes, you need to get medical exam done for K-3 visa. It allows your spouse to come to USA and then adjust visa status to CR1 in two months)

She also did not receive an interview letter in mail from consulate even after trying to reach them several times thru email and phone calls. She had to eventually make a trip directly to Mumbai inquiry counter and got an interview letter immediately to avoid any issues for Medical exam before her interview. She made this trip 15 days prior to her interview date, so she can submit all her documents to VFS.

Either push VFS Mumbai hard to get your interview letter thru fax or email immediately (try to talk to the department who issues interview letter) OR make a trip to Mumbai.

I have never gotten any PDF file attachment.Where does it come from?

After sending in the packet3,VFS Mumbai has confirmed that the US Consulate has Received it.I myself have found out the Interview Date after checking Appointment Schedule for Mumbai Consulate Online with my Case#.

P.S. I've never received anything officially in the MAIL.Every Confirmation regarding Approval of Petition & Case#,Packet3 was only through E-mail from VFS Mumbai,,that too after a no of calls & emails.

FYI...

IR1/CR1 visa interview is scheduled by NVC (National Visa Center) not by Embassy.

you must have gotten the pdf file as attachment to say that your interview is scheduled on 5th July from NVC.

You can print that for your reference.

If you don't have the interview letter, you may not be allowed to enter in Embassy.

I haven't received Packet 4/Interview Letter in MAIL. Two weeks ago, I addressed my issue and requested VFS Mumbai to send me the Interview Letter. I had all the Packet 4 documents ready to submit to VFS Hyderabad except my Interview Letter.I made an appointment with VD Center,Hyderabad,AP,India for medical exam for 27th June thinking that I would receive my Interview Letter soon. I didn't get any mail/email,,after numerous emails and phone calls to VFS Mumbai helpline, They said I can print out the e-mail transcripts as the evidence to get my medical checkup done. I went to the hospital,spoke to the staff member and explained my situation,, she then discussed with the Doctor, Doc also contacted Mumbai Consulate.. they also said NO! and I was refused to get the med exam done bec they can only do it with the original interview letter.I contacted VFS Mumbai again, they told me to submit all the documents(except med) since today(28th June 2012) is the last day for submission, and I can bring in the medical exam results directly on the day of my Interview.Meanwhile, told me to send an Email explaining the urgency to get the duplicate interview letter in email.I contacted VFS Mumbai again to find out the status of the letter and they said they already forwarded my mail to the concerned dept and I should be getting my interview letter by today eve (28th june) or tomorrow(friday the 29thJune).I still didn't receive it and hoping to get it by tomorrow.

They dont take your old passport. They only will cancelled it right away and return you back.

I applied for re-issue passport after my case was completed at NVC. No problem at all. Make sure to bring old and new passport at the time of interview.

Thanks iwaiting... Once a passport is reissued ...the old passport is taken away ...so i'll have only one passport with me. Thanks anyway.

No problem at all! I did exactly the same thing. In fact I had to change my name in the new passport -- since I had my maiden name in the old one --before I could apply for the Police clearance at the passport office. And this was just before P4. So, P4 had my married name on it.

Just make sure you write or call the NVC with the information about your new passport and send them/email them a copy of your new passport and your police clearance.

I'm new to Visajourney.com. Can somebody help me out or suggest me about my situation mentioned below.

Me (Indian National) and my wife (US Citizen) have filed immigrant visa application/petition (I-130) at New Delhi Embassy.

I have recently sent Packet 3 documents and the embassy already received them. I'm yet to receive the appointment letter/packet 4 from the embassy.

A few days back I visited the local passport office to apply for the Police Clearance Certificate as it's requirement was mentioned in the Packet 4 Info sheet.

There, the officer in charge found a minor damage in my passport on the last page and asked me to apply/reissue a new passport and only then they will provide me a police clearance certificate.

So, I'll manage to apply and receive a new passport and then the police clearance certificate before my interview at the embassy whenever it is scheduled.

As my visa process is at the last stage, i would really appreciate if someone clears my doubts mentioned below:

Will there be any problem if i get a new/reissued passport at this stage (before attending immigrant visa interview at the consulate) of my visa process.

Can someone please enlighten me about the procedure i should follow for this kind of situation like filling out a form or something.
