  1. Hello all,

I am sure, my questions have been answered at some point here in this forum. It is indeed a great resource but I am in a bit of hurry and havent been able to find exactly what I was looking for so I'll just ask it here:

So I just sent in my I-751 application (joint filing) to the Vermont center and it was received yesterday 1/13/15. My gc expires 2/2/15 (work authorization as well i believe) and so I am a bit nervous about the implications of an rfe or any possible issues that may arise. So my questions are as follows.

    1. When can I expect to receive the NOA1?

I have seen instances where this was received fairly quickly (less than a week type of quickly)

    2. Will the NOA1 have the extension letter/notice (if so, how is that possible? are the documents and evidence processed and verified that quickly? or is the extension solely based on the fact that the application has been properly filed?)

    3. is the NOA sent via email or postal mail or both?

4.Is there a situation where the NOA1 is a rejection of the application? and what else could cause that assuming the document has been "properly" filed

    5. What happens to my employment status if I do not receive the NOA1 on time? (my employer happens to check these things regularly as we are federal contractors).

I honestly dont anticipate any issues but I will be glad if someone can address these concerns.

  2. The Privacy Act actually prohibits most government agencies from sharing data with other government agencies, including the IRS.

i tried to explain this to them but i wasnt 100% sure myself so I didn't push. i think there was a part in the i-864 where it said something of charges being pressed against misleading information so it made me wonder a bit.

thanks a lot for your help though, all of you. i appreciate it.

  3. You'll probably get an RFE on the taxes (I assume you used a cosponsor?) but 18 days is not cause to panic regarding the NOA, especially considering that includes 2 weekends and a holiday. Have you signed up for text and/or email alerts?

yes I used a joint sponsor (her parents). The parents were also worried whether any "mistakes" on their part could land them in IRS trouble or DHS trouble.

  4. I have discovered an error in my application. On the I-130 where it asks what USCIS office you intend to adjust status at, I put in Chicago IL when I should have put the office closest to where I reside which is Memphis TN. This is totally my fault and I should have known better. Is there a way to correct this without causing an extended delay of proceedings. its already been 18 days since my packet arrived and still yet to receive a NOA. I really need this to be corrected. Please help!

  5. I also forgot to add, i just realized going through these forums that I failed to include a statement from my wife stating why she did not file for taxes (she has been a full time student and unemployed). I am guessing that is recipe for an RFE.

I do not think there is need for much worry about the NOA. It will certainly come. Also, if you tracked the package and it was received on May 10, that will probably be your priority date for the I485 irrespective of NOA date.

So, relax, your NOAs are likely coming this week.

    Thanks for the blessed assurance!

  6. so i got married to my girlfriend of 2+ years in February this year even though we have been living together for 6 months prior to the marriage.i think i lost my f-1 status someone in mid February or early march due to the fact that i was not enrolled in school.i solid have graduated in December but asked my school to defer graduation till may just so i could have more time to land an internship or coop but that did not work out.obviously my visa is valid until the end of may and so is my i-20. i sent in my package on the 7th of May and itgot to the Chicago lockbox on the 10th i know this because i tracked it. however i am worried because i have still not received my NOA and i wonder what the reason for the delay could be.the maximum i have heard most people wait is 10 days.its been 18 for me now so am getting worried.i wish i had known about this forum earlier i think i would have learned a lot. i filled the forms to the best of my ability and knowledge and packaged it well before i sent it off.i was a bit sketchy about the i864 because my wife's parents helped me out with that part and they were not too comfortable putting out all their info on paper so i Ann wondering whether there are discrepancies.but surely i should have got my NOA first at least right?
