Hi guys,
I wasn't sure where to post this, so feel free to move my post!
My interview is planned on January 14th here at the consulate in Amsterdam, and I'm planning to make my leave three weeks later. I'm currently researching everything about the SSN, the AOS and I was also looking at obtaining a marriage license in Texas, which is where we"ll be living. According to some information I found, in Texas you need a social security number to get your marriage license and therefore to get married.
Does anyone know if this is true, and if so, what would that mean for us? I've read about so many issues with getting your SSN that it may just be worth it for me to fly to New York for my POE and get married there.

I have my interview January 14th and I'm planning to leave in the second week of February. So I'm gonna have to pay this extra fee, on top of my $1000 ticket? What a bummer.

Thanks everyone, I'll get my fiance to call the NVC today. We'll wait some more! Luckily I'm visiting him next week

Hi everyone!
We got approved on October 31st and that gave us an immense boost of confidence and happiness in this long journey. However, we haven't heard anything since then. Maybe there's no need for me to worry, but I checked Igor's list and many couples that were approved around or even after our date have gotten responses and even interview dates!
From what I've seen here the craziest things can happen, including getting package 3 out of the blue and stuff like that... But still. I sent an email to the NVC this morning, does anyone know whether that takes a long time? What do they tell you if you call the NVC, and what would be the right times to do so?
Thanks!

Hoi dames!

My fiancé lives in Brooklyn, about a 2 minute walk out to the water. Manhattan is right across and was almost all dark at night. So crazy. I was really worried for a while when he said the water went over the pier and into the streets.... But luckily he's fine. It's my birthday today and I had my final fitting of my wedding dress before I get to pick it up! It all feels really close now, guys. I feel like I look at my surroundings and family differently now that I expect to leave in three months; and those are gonna fly by.

So you guys don't tell them you're visiting your fiancé or even boy/girlfriend? I'd be scared that after a few questions they would find out, and if you don't tell them upfront they might think you're trying to hide something....

I was thinking of flying out at the end of November for Christmas, so would be back in January well in time to update before my passport expired. If I renew my passport now, I wouldn't get it back until just before I'm due to fly. Processing time for renewal of passports in the UK is about four weeks.
I think I will leave it as it is. It might even help with entry because it's obvious that I would unlikely to stay beyond the expiry date of my passport and ESTA!
Woops, I got mine within a week so I definitely get your point. I'm sure it'll be fine and hope you'll have a great time!!

This thread has given me hope. Our US lawyer told me that I couldn't come back to the US until I had the K1 visa - I came back on Tuesday from 89 days with my guy. We submitted the I-129F and got the NOA1 on 24 July, so are hoping to get the NOA2 shortly. I am being made redundant in late November and have sold my flat in anticipation of moving to the US. Therefore, I have nothing to tie me here. I will be leaving most of my stuff, so will get a letter from my landlady saying that I have a significant amount of stuff in storage with her to indicate I'm going to return.
I have a question though. My passport is due to expire on 13 March 2013 so I was going to renew it now. However, now I'm concerned about my ESTA as that is linked to my passport expiry date. If I renew my passport now, I have to get a new ESTA. Might I be refused one as their records will show that the is a K1 application in process? Would I be better to hold back on renewing it until I get further into the process? I know that I am supposed to have 6 months left on my passport when I travel but also am aware that the US extend passports for travel from people from the UK by 6 months past their expiry date.
Has anyone had expereince of getting a new ESTA whilst in the middle of the K1 process? Thanks.
I had the same issue, my passport was due to expire April 2013. I got it renewed before I got my plane ticket so that I could use my new document number. I also got a new esta becauuse of the document number. You can't change the current esta you have, even though it's valid for two years... I actually got my new esta last week and I think its fine.. I wouldn't risk having different document numbers in their files.

Congrats! So happy for you guys!

Im a May filer, and we are still waiting for our NOA2 to appear...
However, my fiancee (USC) got a call from an agent working on our K1 (!!!!!!!) and he said that he apologises for not getting back to us, but it has been really busy in the VSC (as we know). He is saying that May filers are looking at mid Decembers for approval to start.
Luckily my fiancee and I are planning for a May 2013 wedding, so we have plenty of time. Whether or not his information is accurate or not is opinionated, however at the rate that this is going I am finding this to be a trustworthy source.
It's greats that you've finally heard something from them! But December!? What a bummerino..... Today is our 5th month mark and I was hoping for NOA2 before I visit him the last week of November. Oh well. Even though everyone says not to plan a date for the wedding or anything, we have our hearts set on March 9th or the weekend after that. Most of our friends are going to have to fly over and if we would have to change the date that would really screw everything up... But I'm keeping my hopes up!

Hi everyone!
I booked my ticket and am visiting my fiancé in Texas for two weeks at the end of November. According to our timeline we should have our NOA2 by then, and I hope it will help with getting me into the country... As I hope customs understands that we didn't wait all this time just for me to stay in the country illegally. I live at home with my parents, but I do have a fulltime job at H&M here so hopefully that will be a strong enough tie. I'm flying through Houston, to Austin; anyone have any experience with the Houston airport?

Hi guys!
I only just found this thread, it's nice to see more may filers out here. We got out NOA1 the 16th of May but haven't heard anything after that. I'm counting on the end of Nvember like my timeline says... We are hoping to have our wedding March 9th so I'm very anxious to see things go along.

Hi,
Medical is very basic and it is 2 parts, one with a doctor in Amsterdam and one for x-rays close to where the doctor is.
The Consulate in Amsterdam will tell you where to go but you make the doctor and x-ray appointment.
Bring cash they do not accept cards!!!
Use this link for more information, http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Netherlands&cty=Amsterdam
So that means I wait until I get package 3, and then get the medical? Does it make any sense to get vaccins at my doctor before that?
-
Hey fellow Dutch(wo)men!
We are currently waiting on our NOA2, thanks Vermont.. We expect it late November. I'm researching everything that can be done in advance to the interview and was wondering about the medical. How does it go? What about the various vaccins? I've read in another topic that a beneficiary here missed several shots and would have to spent 600 euro's.. which I was not counting on.
Hopefully someone has some info!

Hallo dames!
Het is hier een beetje stil, maar wie weet kunnen we nog verder kletsen? Ik ben nog maar 21 jaar en ga hopelijk begin volgend jaar met mijn visa op het vliegtuig stappen. We gaan in Austin, Texas wonen.
liefs!
Chrissie

The longest we've been apart is 6 months; even though our relationship was only five weeks old when I left to go back home, we made it through. It definitely wasn't easy, but I'm glad I stuck my teeth in him and didn't want to let go
. Now, we see each other about every three months. Being young without a serious job has it's benefits!

That's awesome to hear! We filed in May and I'm planning to go visit him in Midland, Texas, this November. I'm pretty nervous about the whole deal too... But it seems like we should be okay!
-
Hi guys,
thanks for the replies. I'm not sure how much more than the 125% he has made, I'll have to ask him tonight.
A&B, I definitely checked out the forum but couldn't really find anything on freelancers
might be a fault on my side!
Social security number for marriage license

Thanks for all the answers! I could indeed have done a more thorough google search. I just looked at some general info websites and that got me started. We are getting married in either Midland or Austin, so I'll look up their specific requirements. I had indeed looked at many experiences about obtaining the SSN and it seemed like I could definitely expect some issues there. I guess that's why I got a little worked up
