  1. JAPAN?

Some questions in general as well:

-Is this situation only for Military personnel living abroad?

-Would one need to be married and reside for a minimum amount of time in Japan prior to applying? (how long?)

I'm not in the military and it was approved in just a week.

Not sure...but we have been married and living in Japan for about 2 years before we finally decided to apply for her visa.

  2. 1. Country USC resides in: Japan

    2. Is there a USCIS field office in this country / Is DCF still possible? No

    3. When did you file the I-130: June 2012

    4. How long had you been living abroad: 5 and a half years

    5. Do you reside in the country legally? Yes

    6. What is the reason for your residence: work

    7. Did you list your foreign address on all forms in I-130 package? Yes.

    8. Did you send I-130 package from abroad? Yes

    9. Did you include evidence of your residence abroad in the I-130 package? included both a self-translated english and japanese version of our rental agreement.

    10. Did you mention the fact you reside abroad in the cover letter or write a letter describing your current situation and the evolution of your relationship with your spouse (mentioning your residence abroad)? not really. in the application itself, it seemed evident that ive lived in japan for numerous years and that we've lived with each other for 2-3 years, but never went into detail.

    11. Has your case been "auto-expedited"? How long between NOA1 and NOA2? Yes. 7 days. boom.

    hope this helps!

  3. Just recieved NOA1 in the mail today. They received our packet on June 8th, and the NOA1 notice date is June 11th. I checked the case number on the USCIS website and under the ''Post Decision Activity" tab, it says I-130 has been approved on June 18th and that another notice has been mailed out. Is that the "NOA2" that we're waiting for next? It's moved through the USCIS that quickly??

  4. Thanks for the quick responses! I'll try and get it out as soon as possible then.

Another quick question, on Line 18 of the I-130, "Address in the US where your relative intends to live," I haven't found a place yet as I'll be staying at a friend's place the moment I get into Hawaii. After a week or so, I should be securing a place of my own. Do you think putting down my friend's address would be fine for now? Or should I put a relative's address who lives in a different state?

  5. Hello!

I'm a US citizen married to a Japanese woman. Started dating in 2007, lead to marriage in Dec 2009, all in Japan. I've recently secured a job in Hawaii which will start mid-June. Of course, I want to bring my wife along, but I know we must file for a CR-1 visa. I will go to Hawaii first and while we're waiting for her visa to be approved, she will continue to live in Japan.

My question is this: Should I file the I-130 while I still live in Japan with her? Or should I start the process when I move to Hawaii by myself? Reason I'm asking is because if I file in Japan, but then move to Hawaii, I'm afraid something may be delayed due to my change of address...

Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated. I've seen the help you've been able to give others, so I look forward to what you have to say. Thank you in advance!!
