  1. Good luck! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Dallas people to just get it over with. Let us know when you hear from them.

While I'm here, I may as well tell you that my case still hasn't been updated since our interview. After this whole online notification system totally bugging on me for the entire process, I'm not surprised and expecting the card to arrive without the online status changing. But I'll let you know either way.

Hi Coocoo, I am in the same position as you. My online status is still stuck at Decision and I could do with that little green card sooner rather than later

anyone know how long from approval email to card production?

Looking at other people's timelines it seems to range from 7 days upwards.

  2. This is really the only place I can vent about it (and it helps!)

I obviously can't talk to my children about it (the oldest is not even a teenager yet) and while my father-in-law lives here we are not that close. Basically my wife was my world and losing her almost crushed me.

But yeah, I'm trying to keep happy thoughts going for next week.

Vent away. For what it is worth, I am really pulling for you and it really sounds like you are doing everything that you can which is all you can possibly do. Lets hope that this is a big week for you.

  3. I believe he already stated that the earliest Infopass appointment available was past his planned date of departure.

That is true. I am fairly relaxed as I have friends and my wife flying to see me a week later. Fingers crossed that the card comes within 2 weeks (The IO said that it would). If not, I'll have an extended trip in the UK :)

Thanks for your advice though. I will certainly be relieved to see that little green card

  4. Hi Guys,

Approved on the spot. I'll write a detailed overview of it for everyone later on. We have a really nice IO and she said that our case was straight forward. Am waiting for the email and text from USCIS now. We had a minor issue in that she told us that you cannot travel on either my H1B visa or EAD / AP in the meantime and I am flying to the UK next Thursday. They told us to try and get an Infopass for the meantime, but I needed to schedule an interview and the earliest was after I had left. I am not too concerned as someone can always FedEx the card over to me as I only need to reenter using it. Interestingly, if I had tried to reenter using the EAD / AP (as planned) the IO told me that this would cancel the Greencard. No big dramas, we are very happy.

I'd like to thank everyone on this forum for all of their insights, help and experiences. These made it really easy to turn up and take provide all of the correct information. We were asked for my wife's birth certificate, proof of our relationship (we had a joint card), some photos (she kept 2 or 3) and that was basically it. She reconfirmed all of my information and asked me all of the questions again which I had answered no to e.g. are you a terrorist.

    All done in 10-15 mins.

    Best of luck guys

  5. So, fun day today.

We arrived at the office at around 11:35am and my interview was scheduled for 12:15pm.

I made a quick call as we got out of the car (the kids' library books were due back today and I had to renew them) before we went inside, through security (only had to show them my appointment letter and nothing else) before we went up the stairs and I gave the lady at the desk my interview letter.

At approximately 12:20pm a gentleman in his mid-30s introduced himself as Officer Stuart (Stewart?) and asked me to come with him.

We went through a door and he immediately pulled me into a side office, and said "This isn't actually my office but I wanted to communicate some information to you real quick". At this point I knew things would not go well.

He told me that since I had concurrently filed an I-360 (widower) and an I-485, this was a problem, that usually the I-360 is filed first, approved, and then you file an I-485 based on the approved I-360. I told him that the form's instructions clearly indicated that a concurrent filing was permissible.

He then told me that local offices do not have the jurisdiction to adjudicate I-360s, only the Vermont Service Centre can do that, and so he believed that today's interview would have to be cancelled. At the NBC my file should have been separated out and the I-360 should have been sent to Vermont, approved there, and then that approval and the I-485 should have been sent to my local office for the final interview and approval. He said for some reason, likely a clerical error at the NBC, that had not been done in this case.

At this point I asked him if I could call my lawyer. He said sure, and that he would double-check with his supervisor that everything he had told me was correct while I was doing that.

He escorted me back to the waiting room and I grabbed my cellphone and called my lawyer. She said it sounded legitimate, but why on earth had they scheduled me for an interview if they hadn't finished processing my I-360. I told her that he had indicated to me it was some kind of error. I said I would call her back with any news, but that as far as I knew the interview would not proceed.

About five minutes after I hung up with my lawyer, the gentleman came back and escorted me to his real office this time. On the way he informed me that his supervisor had confirmed that the local office lacked the authority to adjudicate the I-360 and that the interview would proceed but solely based on the I-485.

He swore me in at his office and I took a seat.

He asked for my ID and I showed him my EAD and current passport.

He confirmed my date of birth, country of citizenship, phone number, address and the number of children I had. He also asked if they both lived with me, to which I said yes.

He then proceeded to ask me the usual questions about being a terrorist, having committed any crimes, whether I had had military training, etc. I responded "no" to all of the questions.

He then asked whether I had any additional evidence I wanted to submit that was not already included in my application. I gave him a couple of old utility bills in my wife's name and at the same time summarised all of the information he already had in the file. He then spent about five minutes reviewing those documents (joint bank account statements; a life insurance policy; children's birth certificates and some other odds and ends). He did not ask to see my I-94 or anything else.

He said ok, that about wraps up everything I can do here. I asked what next, and he said the I-360 would be forwarded to the Vermont Service Centre but he had no idea how long it would be until I heard anything. The entire interview took perhaps ten minutes, half of which consisted of him reviewing the file in silence.

He escorted me back to the waiting room and we left.

So that's where we are. I have no idea when I will get my green card. For all I know it will be weeks / months. I got the impression that since it wasn't an everyday I-130 & I-485 case he was unsure of how to proceed and not up-to-date on the law, and I am still not sure what he has told me about Vermont is correct.

I have asked my lawyer to investigate and see what is going on. All in all, today sucked.

So sorry to hear that. They will make you jump through hoops, but you will get there in the end. Keep your chin up

We were approved right there. We received our paper notice about removal. I will write more later. Got 8 hours back to our city. Thank u all aos filer board. Good luck to everyone and congratulations to all those approved.

well done. We are up tomorrow

  7. I'm pretty sure your social security number stays the same, even though they issue you a new paper that doesn't say it's only valid with a work permit. And I've yet to have somebody ask to SEE the paper. They want to know your ssn. If you know it or have it written down anywhere, that's good enough. I started work and I got my credit card without showing the paper. It's locked away as securely as possible, because it's such a tiny piece of paper, I'd be surprised if it doesn't go missing.

I guess what I'm saying is, for those of you who want to start work or get a credit line, get your SSN now, they probably won't ask to see the new one anytime soon. And even if they did - it's free, you're not wasting money. Mine came in 4 or 5 work days after I applied.

I would echo coocoo's sentiments here. Get the paperwork moving. I have never been asked to show my SSN card before, all people want is the number

  8. Congrats... and wish you all the best.

Thanks - good news all around for us two this week.

  9. hi everyone,

i thought i might join in :) i filed last april 23, got my interview notice for july 24 (no EAD/AP yet though but biometrics done last June 6). Now, I am currently having my interview rescheduled because of a conflict (in another post i explained that i was scheduled to take the california bar on july 24-26). Crossing my fingers that i get my request for interview reschedule approved. :)

Best of luck with the rescheduling. I'd be interested how you get on with that. I was really worried that may conflict with my UK Wedding Celebration. I was so lucky that our interview is a week before. I did my biometrics on the 22nd May and only got the email yesterday, so I'd say to sit tight for a few more days yet.

This is the case for me. I was hoping to hear this week (according to Igor's list). Best of luck with it all. I was trying to work out which the NOA date was. Is it the received date or notice date? I am assuming the latter.

  14. You can, but you do NOT want to. Personally I would change my trip before I tried to change my immigration interview. I have seen several cases on VisaJourney of people who's cases got denied because they tried to reschedule the interview but for whatever reason it didn't go through the right channels and they got denied for not showing up to the interview.

I am afraid that we would have to. We have a big wedding planned with plenty of guests coming all booked up. It wouldnt even be an option. I really hope that immigration would understand but am nervous about it

You can reschedule your appointment if it comes on these dates.

I really hope so. We only did it this way around to get a 'jump' on the whole process. Our intention was always to have the big wedding in the UK at the end of July.

  15. Hi Guys,

I am waiting for my EAD and Interview. I am getting a little concerned as we are having a 'wedding' ceremony (we got married legally in March) in the UK on the 28th July and I have a flight booked to the UK between 21st July and August 4th. Does anyone know if you can change the interview date if it falls between these dates?

    Thanks

    PD
