Any help would be appreciated. I am wanting to travel to Sri Lanka to see my husband. I have sole custody of one daughter and my ex husband's name is not on the birth certificate for the other daughter. Have any of the rest of you had these issues and what steps do I take to make sure it's legal for me to travel for a visit.

The OP says nothing about preconceived intent and when you marry does not matter. Here is the VJ Guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide2
COmplete advice cannot be given without complete information, which won't happen as this post is about a "friend."
Thank you all for the info. Not sure what you are implying with the "friend" but if you are thinking I'm talking about myself you are wrong. I only wish my husband was over here but I am patiently (sometimes not so patiently) waiting for our I-130 to be approved. I do not even think that my husband could get a visitor's visa because he does not have enough evidence tying him to his home country. Anyways, what other information were you looking for?

I have a friend who's fiance came over on a tourist visa from South Africa. They are getting married next month. They have waited to be together for two years and now he does not want to go back, which is understandable. Please no negative comments I just am wondering simply is there a process where they could work on adjusting his status. Where would they go from here? Thank you in advance.

Love your response Laura.

I was touched August 20th. I don't think it happens again until they start processing it.

hI aLL .
iM CURRENTLY MAKING $33300 a year plus the child support money which boost my income to $38000 a year. I have heard that your W2'S for the past 3 years have to show the minimun income requirement. I have a family of 3 and did make 25000 on year 2010 and 29000 last year.
Wil they possibility ask for me to get a sponsor since i did not make that amount of money the year prior -- i believe in order to bring my fiance --i will fall under family of 4-- incme requirement 28000
please advised
thank you
They may look at your past income to see if you can keep up the income that they want but you should be more than fine because what counts is what you are currently making. I wouldn't worry at all about it.

This whole process has taken over my life!!! It is has drained me and now I am losing all hope that I will be seeing my husband home for the holidays. I thought searching for a new job, car or place to live was the worst but nothing can top dealing with IMMIGRATION…..
Can’t stop crying and can’t sleep, just want to hold my husband…..
Thanks for listening
B-) B-) B-)
Always wear my sunglasses when leaving him in Jamaica and he hates to see them on. He knows the tears are flowing under them....
I know how you feel, it's an absolutely sickening feeling, and the worst depression in the world.

Waiting waiting waiting..... I know it hasn't been that long but it's hard anyways. I had wasted nine months trying to save for an attorney before realizing I could file myself.....

Im not complaining or anything but everyday I really check the Immigration timeline here in VJ and notice that lately there has not much approved petitions coming from CSC... I notice that for most July filers it takes more or less 80 days to get approved compared to June filers who got approved more or less within 70 days... Before, i see someone or several people get approve everyday but now it takes days for new approvals...
What you guys think is happening?
I noticed this as well, although it has started picking up today. I wondered if maybe since Vermont is so far behind, maybe California is sharing some of the work load. I'm not sure. I hope that California is sharing with Vermont, even though I want my hubby over here as much as anyone I feel awful for people who are having to wait nearly a year.

By the way we should keep in touch, your NOA1 is August 10 and mine is August 9.

Hi everyone
We want to buy tickets for Colombia for Christmas. Will buy today or this weekend. Should my wife use her name on her passport or her married name on her green card? I thought someone here would know from experience.
Thanks for your help!
You must use your legal name that is on your passport for your ticket. IF the name on the passport is not the legal name you need to get it changed asap. I know from experience.

He will not need your birth certificate. Copies of your paycheck stubs and employment letter are send to the NVC when you submit the I-864.
So do I only need to send him a certified copy of my divorce decree? Will he need to bring evidence of our relationship as well, such as proof of our continuing relationship from the time we filed until the interview?

I filed only last month but am wanting to send my husband whatever he will need from me for the interview now. I know I need to send him my birth certificate and divorce decree. Is there anything else anyone can think of? Later on do I need to send him copies of my paycheck stubs and the letters from my employers? Any help as always will be greatly appreciated.

Hello all,
I just got a job after being unemployed since I finished school in January 2011. Although I've been wanting to send in my paperwork for my K1 I waited until I got a job. The only catch is, I'm a 1099 employee. Will this be a problem for me? I'm sure I make enough money. Anybody out there in a similar boat? I don't want to get denied.
Thanks everybody.
I don't know anything about being a 1099 employee but I know that this should not slow you down from applying now for the K1 visa. How much you make will not even be looked at until after your petition is approved. I think you should file now. Hopefully someone else will have some advice.

I know I keep asking questions on here but I'm just nervous and want to know all of the answers before hand. I am planning to sponsor my husband by myself. I do have two children and I know how much I am supposed to make according to the 2012 poverty levels (125%) anyways I was wondering if they will let me be the sponsor if I'm supposed to make (it's somewhere between 28 and 29,000) and I make 30,000 a year between both of my jobs. I really don't have anyone to co-sponsor and I am working sooo hard to make what they require, just hoping that they will consider it enough or do they want you to make significantly more? I've been making the 30,000 since April before it was less. Also who looks at my affadavit to determine if I make enough, is that done in the US or at the embassy?

I know we have not even been approved yet but I am trying to be as prepared as possible for the next steps. I read on one of these forums that the beneficiary has to have police reports from every country they have lived in. My husband lived in Saudi Arabia for 2 months because of work. Does he have to have police reports from there, he does not even remember the address he lived at (although we did mention that he lived there in the petition) it was 5 years ago. And if he does have to have police reports from there he thinks that he would have to travel there to get them, is this true or could he somehow call to get these reports? Thanks in advance.

I am wondering if they will tell me the same thing. I do barely make over the 125% mark hope they don't require a lot more. I have 2 children so I have to make nearly 29000 a year. Barely pulling it off even though I'm working 64 hours a week. Does anyone know if they will require more if I am barely making what they require?

Thanks for the quick responses. This site is amazing.

Just a quick question. I keep seeing on timelines where AOS and IV fees are paid I was wondering how much these fees are so that I can be prepared when the time comes. Also does anyone know how much has to be paid at the consulate when my husband goes for his interview, or does it just depend on where you go?

Hi, I have been looking at some of the VJ timelines and there are people who's IR-1/CR-1 visas are approved within days or a couple of weeks. Does that sometimes actually happen or did all of these people mess up on their timelines? I am just curious.

I filed 3 days before you and just finally got my e-mail today. I am sooooo excited although I know there will still be a long wait. Good luck to you and just hang in there a few more days, you will get it.

Amen to that. Yesterday was my birthday and I was so depressed all day I felt like I couldn't breathe.
