    Hi everyone, Need your help.

So i applied for my GC renew on May 2018. Yesterday was my interview with USCIS, not sure how long it will take to get a decision. But me and my wife have a travel planned On December 27th to Jan 16 out of the country.

My current extension letter expires in February 2020.

Can someone provide me some information like:

is it safe to travel after GC renew Interview while waiting for response?

Is it safe to travel when i will have only few weeks left for the extension letter?

what  things i need to do before travelling?

    Thanks in advance.

I can only give my best guess. Firstly, i think that you should not have any problems traveling on the extension letter if need be. You could always get an appointment and a stamp in your passport, which is what I did. Traveled twice with it and had no issues at all. I also feel that there is a good chance of a decision being made quickly and before you travel end of December. If the card arrives in time is another question, but my approval letter arrived within 3 days of approval. Super quick. I just got it yesterday and may have to travel with it in December as well if the card does not arrive by then.

Good luck!! I hope you here from them soon.

Filled on 8/6/18 csc no transfer. Got RFE yesterday.

This is really nightmare. After all the stress before getting first gc, now they decided to bother me more. Me and my wife filled pretty much everything we had. Idk what they want for me anymore. Been with my wife for 5 years and i still have to think r they gonna separate us. Im so depressed plus i cant travel to see my sick father rn.. goodluck everyone else. At least they r finally doing csc early august

I'm not sure what your specific situation is, but I traveled overseas twice without issues on the NOA letter and with a stamp in my passport.

Is there some kind of a list of success stories of people traveling on the extension letter? If not, maybe we could put one together?

I only have the stamp in my passport and the extension letter (no expired GC as they took it away when I got the stamp). I was on a cruise in the Caribbean and had no problem entering the US again. I later traveled to Germany with the same combo and also had absolutely no issues.

So a weird thing happened today...

I received a letter back in March saying that my fingerprints would be reused. After that my status online change to Fingerprint Review Was Completed. It's been sitting there since March, and today I came home to a letter asking me to get my fingerprints taken at my local office on July 1st...

Has this happened to anyone? When I check my case online it still says Fingerprint Review Was Completed.

I'm in the California Service Senter (WAC receipt).

Same. Received a letter with Biometrics appointment for next Monday after they sent a letter in March saying they'd reuse biometrics. Last time it was really quick, so I'm not too concerned. Too be honest, I'm just glad to hear from them even if it is about bio appointment. 😂  At least it's some update.

Hey Guys, does anyone have any experience with/heard anything relating to going on a cruise to Mexico or Bahamas or outside U.S. with expired GC and the extension letter?

I’ve traveled outside U.S a few times in the last year with both docs and I had no issues at the border (airport), I don’t know if I’ll have a different experience at the port (boat).

Not sure if you already left, but I went on a cruise in the Caribbean (including Cozumel, Mexico) in December. My GC was expired and they had even taken it away when I got my 551 extension stamp in my passport. I travelled with the NOA

and my passport w/ stamp and had no problems in any port or on re-entry to US. Didn't even have to explain the situation to anyone. Hope that helps.

  8. Wopps starting to freak out a little.

Our interview is tomorrow and we totally neglected our checklist. We are in the process of buying a house so the realtor and lender has been killing us with stress lately.

Hopefully we can pull ourselves together tomorrow and not be so invested in Real estate hassle!

Have some pics, proof of mutual bank account, same insurance, 401k, tons of cards from family from the wedding, facebook screenshots, phone bill, comcast bill.

    I hops its enough!

If you are both on the same lease now, bring that too. Our IO really loved that lol Or any documentation you are both signing for the house/mortgage.

Good luck for tomorrow, Izor!! We're looking forward to hearing about your approval ;-)
  9. lily is right. We just had our interview last week and I brought a complete copy of our application package. Never needed it, but things can get lost at USCIS and I would bring it just in case.

Good luck!! You'll be fine :-)

    Hi guys!

I have my GC interview on Monday! I have couple of questions: on the NOA I got says that we should bring a completed medical examination and a completed affidavit of support with all supporting evidence UNLESS ALREADY SUBMITTED. Does that mean that since those documents were already submitted as a part of AOS, I dont need to bring them? Stupidly I forgot to make a copy of AOS so I would just have to fill in the forms again and bring them :/

    Thank you for your answers!!

I received the offical "Welcome to the USA" letter today and the I-485 just updated to "USPS has picked up your card" ... so fast! Just 4 days after the interview.

  10. Just got home from our interview. APPROVED!!!

I wanted to let you all know how it went since I got so much help on here and really appreciated reading about other's experiences:

Our appointment was scheduled for 9:30am. Our interview was at the Los Angeles office. We parked at the LA Mall, which is not the cheapest ($16 daily max /$2.50 each 20 min), but super convenient as it is literally across the federal building.

We knew we should not check in more than 30 min before our appointment and went in at 9am. Security was quick, we went up to the 8th floor where our interview was taking place. We went to the check-in window and the lady was really nice.

Just asked if everyone for the interview was present and directed us to the room number, where our officer was. There was no one sitting at the second window (Room 8509) and a sign said to slide the interview notice under the window and to

take a seat....we were a little worried we'd never see it again or wouldn't get called :-) Oh, it is not a problem to take a phone into the LA office. We left them in the car just in case, but saw people even using their phones in the waiting area.

We waited for maybe 10-15 minutes when the officer came to the waiting area around 9:30am and called my name (beneficiary). My husband got up as well and I was so happy that the officer didn't tell him to sit down again :-) (yay! no stokes).

The officer was really friendly right from the start. Asked us for our ID's (husband for passport/DL and me for EAD, DL, Passport and SSC). He then asked us to follow him and he copied our ID's on the way to his office. When we got to his office,

he first swore us in and then asked me to sit down in front of him and my husband next to me (further away from officer).

He first asked my husband for:

    - my (wife's) name

    - My DOB

    - my place of birth

    - my address

    - my parent's name

    - my visa status when I entered the US (F-1)

    - when we got married

    - where we got married

    - he asked to see our marriage certificate (original)

    - if I was married before

    - he asked hubby for his birth certificate (certified copy was fine)

He then turned to me and asked:

    - husband's name

    - husband's DOB

    - husband's place of birth

    - first names of my in-laws

    - if hubby was married before (yes)

    - husband's former spouse's name

    - when they divorced

    - asked for my birth certificate

He asked my husband if he had kids (yes, grown up) and if I do.

He then went through the mandatory questions from the I-485 form (terrorism, committed of a crime, had I worked as a prostitute, do I plan of having more husbands...I joked and said no, but maybe a few boyfriends = I would only recommend

joking if you feel the interviewer is up for it like ours).

He asked me where my husband works and what he does. He also asked me where I work and when I started working there. I think because I am on an F-1 visa. I explained I worked there about 7 months after I started studying and that I was

lucky to have had a 20h/week job, which the maximum students can work. He asked what I do there and I explained my role in the ESL Center, where I work.

He asked, who proposed marriage. I clarified and said that he proposed, but I was the one that started proposing getting married :-) Husband chipped in and said he had thought about it before, but didn't voice it. He's so cute.

The officer then asked if we have anything to add to the application. He previously stated the joined lease agreement he really liked. I asked him what he'd like to see as we had brought a box and a filing case full of stuff. He suggested a handful

of photos showing us doing things (I gave him some from Christmas, at a soccer match, husband's niece's graduation and from trips to Europe). He added those to our file. My husband then mentioned I was on his car insurance, he liked that.

We also gave him joint phone bill and AAA membership.

I offered cards/letters sent from family and friends to both of us, but he didn't need to see any of those. He then said he had already looked over our case previously, hinting it looked good. He also mentioned he had a degree in psychology ;-) My

husband joked about our cards to each other where highly sexual......I gave him a stare like "What the hell?!" lol But the officer was very cool about it and then actually shared a case where the couple had taped themselves consummating their marriage

and wanted to show it to the officer....uhm, no thank you.

He then said, just so you know, I am going to approve you and won't keep you much longer. We waited a few minutes and he handed us a letter confirming the green card approval and explained in detail when and how to apply to have the condition

removed. He stressed not to submit the application for removal even a day too early as it would be declined for filing early. Good to remember.

Our interview lasted around 30-40 minutes, but it did not feel that long, mainly due to the officer being really nice. I wish you all an officer like ours! He shared in the course of the interview that he had a husband and a child, where he was from and all

that helped us to relax. He also pointed a few things about us, like my husband playing for years with Natalie Cole (he's a bass player) and how cool it is he teaches Jazz.

He really did not go into detail much about anything. I was surprised he didn't ask when we met (although we mentioned it was through hubby's time with Natalie Cole that we met when he was on tour), he didn't question that we knew each other

before I came to the US on a student visa. He didn't ask how the proposal went, who was at our wedding...lots of things I expected never came up. I never felt he was grilling us or that he was questioning our relationship.

Not sure if anybody wonders, but I would describe what we wore dressy casual. I had on black pants and a nice colorful blouse. Husband wore jeans (the nice ones hehe) and a nice long sleeve linen shirt. It's basically what we both would wear to work.

A little nicer than jeans and t-shirt, but not very dressy. I think feeling comfortable is important.

Thank you again to everyone who posted their own experienced and asked and answered questions. It has been (and still will be) an invaluable resource and support during our journey.

Good luck to everyone, who is still waiting for their interview! I wish you the very best and that it goes as smoothly as our.

  11. Congratulations! ? Good luck on your interview, please let me know how it goes. Our interview is scheduled on Nov. 3, what documents are you bringing?

I will definitely share here what it was like and how it went.

As to what I am bringing:

    • Complete copy of our application package + original documents (which incl. proof of marriage already such as lease agreement, joint bank account proof, bills in both names, last 3 years tax returns)
    • All ID documents (birth certificates, passport, social, marriage cert, divorce decree for hubby, EAD)
    • all correspondence received from uscis
    • Further proof of marriage:
    • photo albums from wedding, honeymoon and one of a selection of photos over the years
    • screen grabs from facebook printed on 8x11 paper with friends commenting on our photos
    • cards we sent to each other when we were not living together and cards from friends/family that were addressed to both of us
    • a letter from our property manager confirming she's known us a couple for several years
    • proof of income from past 2 months

I might have more in my filing case that I now can't remember. I started a few months ago to put everything I thought was helpful in the folder.

  12. Congratz to all who got their EAD Card.. I am running out of patience... cant wait to work!! I hope to get my EAD the soonest. Most of the job interviewed I have attended are urgent hiring :( its my 56 days after NOA1 date of receipt.

My interview has been scheduled for just three months after submitting AOS package, but I still do not have my EAD (Day 71). Might get green card before EAD
