  1. Finally it happened to me  Got email and text saying they ordered production of my new card on August,22. As some of you remember we had interview June 26 and they requested most recent tax return and some papers. We submitted everything on August,6.We also submitted more bills and etc We had an option to drop off papers at local CIS office.SO we went there instead of mailing the papers. I guess it took them 16 days to approve it. Waiting patiently to get the card itself. I guess we'll get NOA letter first. But i'll consider this email as approval, right?

  2. Thank you menina!

    Gummibear,

yes kind of sort of. He requested notarized translation of my medical procedure in Russia and our tax return for 2011. We will amend the previous tax return. To get the new tax return it takes several month. I already posted how my husband filed through a friend of a friend and she filed as he was single :bonk: Anyway we will send him the letter confirming that. That's all he asked actually :translation of my medical bill and tax return. But lawyer came up with a whole bunch of other stuff we can submit.Including mine and my husband's letter explaining our marriage, living arrangements and etc He wants us to submit more affidavits too. Every affidavit should be notarized and only US citizen or GC holder can submit. So i guess we are going to ask my husband's many cousing to help us out on this. And my husband has A LOT of cousins

He didn't ask us any personal questions. Just where we live, work, date and place of marriage, date of birth and previous addresses.

  3. SarahandAnis, i went to the interview in Chula Vista and he never asked anything like that. Not even close. It was all about tell me your full name, address, date of marriage, work place, where you lived before and all that. My lawyer works between LA and San Diego offices and he said they never ask sex questions, but they might ask the last time you kissed your husband and if you call your husband any nicknames.

  4. Ok guys so we went to the interview. Expired passport was no problem at all just like my lawyer promised. He didn't even ask about it.They asked for my state ID to go through security.

The officer was middle aged guy. He didn't really talk much at all. It's like he didn't care. The interview lasted like 10 min and then he said that he needs to review the case. He said that it says on the case that we were supposed to have an interview and he needs to look into.We explained that the previous officer told me that second time i am going to have an interview since my husband was out of the country. The first officer wrote in big red on my case that interview was required, but this quy didn't really know all that. My lawyer cut in and asked him to please talk to us more and ask questions. So he asked us couple questions but still... Really weird. It was 6:45 am so i mean he was probably sleepy. lol

He also told me the first officer was supposed to change your last name to my husband's name.I asked him to do that 2 years ago. But he never did, he forgot. So the interview guy asked me why i never changed it. I explained that it was supposed to be changed, but it never was so asked him to do it this time.I explained that i never bothered to change it since i knew my card will have to be renewed in 2 years.

In the end he told us to send him more papers. While my husband was outside the country, i decided to go to my country and do some medical procedures there. It's super expensive here. Since i'm still a Russian citizen i went there to do operation for free. Anyway i was back by the time husband got back. SO this interview guy gives me this form (more evidence paper) and says to put the medical papers showing what i did in Russia for almost 6 months and to translate in English and get it notarized and show him ticket stamps. And then he checked stamps in my passport and went," it looks like you are in Russia all the time" and i went," this stamps are actually 6 years old.i only went home that one time for 6 months please see other page".

So now i have to proof why i went to Russia and why. I hear they always do this at my local office. They never approve at the interview they always request more evidence.

It is a good thing my lawyer was there. I think without this my case would have been denied. I'm telling you this guy didn't even ask questions. Anyway my lawyer talked to him alone too. so he decided to give us a chance. My lawyer said in all his 20+ years he never seen an interviewer who didn't actually interview and just issued us this form right away.

He said that if he doesn't approve we will take it to the court and they approve us there. But it will take years and cost us a lot of money and i won't be able to travel too. I hope he approves.

We will send them more stuff other than my medical bill from Russia. We'll send them more affidavits, new car title, letters explaining our relationship and all. Again a lot of time and money...But it's not like i have a choice...

  5. Thank you for sharing your interview experience! Very helpful. We have interview in 2 days. Personally i think that these intimacy questions are ridiculous! It's offensive! It's sooooooo inappropriate.Anyone can make this up! It's really inappropriate. Srsly i don't care. I won't answer anything like that. Ask me anything but DO NOT ask me questions like that. It is simply wrong to ask questions like that

  6. MaddyCruise congrats

My interview is on Tuesday... So we are getting all the papers again. I emailed the lady who did our taxes and she emailed me our taxes. I am soooooo mad. It says that my husband's filing status is single!!! He is saying that he told her to file married. She even had 2010 returns too and that shows we were married. I didn't work this year cuz i broke my limbs and i couldn't even walk. So i was home for a long time. But i didn't get any money from the goverment and don't have W-2 form for this year. I don't know this tax lady is stupid! And i'm stupid to not even check what my husband filed. Like year 2010 i didn't even have to sign they used my e-signature from previous years. My husband is so busy all the time. He didn't look it over. He just dropped off the papers she asked for and that was it.

SO what do you guys think is it really bad? We have taxes for 2 previous years. I'm calling this tax lady on Monday to fix this! But i mean we will try to explain the situation at the interview but is it totally the reason that they might deny our case?

  7. Our interview is on July 11th, so I won't know this information until after your (scheduled) interview. I will take notice, and will report back here for posterity, however.

oh i see! i asked you and then i saw that your interview is not until July.

It means we will go first. My lawyer won't be able to come with us actually. He is advising to reschedule so he can be there and he can even do that in person. He says it will postpone it by days or weeks, not months. I am thinking to go without him,but then i remember last time it was very nice to have him by my side because the officer wasn't nice at all. He kept accusing my nation of God knows what, until my lawyer interfered and asked him what it had to do with me!He immediately apologized and finished the interview in a very friendly manner.

    So decisions, decisions...

  8. MikeinWyoming,

thank you for looking out for me. I am waiting till Monday to see what my lawyer has to say. I did a little research on my own. I will also call them on Monday and see what they have to say. Rescheduling isn't an option unless they tell me otherwise. It might take me like 4+ months to get a new passport. And meanwhile they can schedule me for an interview again and then i will have to reschedule again. That's what happened to me when i was trying to get my first green card. My husband was overseas on a goverment job. we provided the letter saying where he was and for how long, but they just kept sending me appointments for an interview until one day i got a letter saying that i have to come by myself and i found out ONE day before the interview. It wasn't nice at all. So we shall see. I also called another lawyer and he also said that it is not a big deal and i should concentrate on the interview itself instead of this.

  9. so what do i do now? if i were to reschedule, they can send me another interview appointment BEFORE i get my new passport. Who knows how long it might take. Last time we had a very bad experience rescheduling an interview. My husband was overseas on a goverment job and we provided the document and asked to reschedule and they did,but in like 2 months they sent us another interview letter. We rescheduled again and then the third time they sent me a letter asking me to go for an interview without my husband 1 DAY before the interview. Like i got from work at 10 pm and the interview was at 7 am next morning.

  10. Thanks for your reply Inky! I read several interview experiences on here and it looks like they do stamp your passport. Since they take your green card i'm guessing NOA is useless without your expired gc. And since they take your GC during the interview, they get you a new stamp in the passport. I'm not sure

If they don't stamp the passport, what do they need it for?

If anyone went to the interview what do they need my passport for? and will i be able to enter the building if i bring expired passport,dl,expired gc. Oh my gosh...

  11. I decided to create this topic because there is not much information about it!

Everywhere it says how you don't need a passport to file I-751 and all, BUT there is a situation where they might call you for an interview and that's when they need your passport! why? i guess because they take your 2 year card and they stamp your passport. So you have some kind of proof of your status while you're waiting for 10-year old card. That's my guess

Here is a copy of the letter i got.

see how it says to bring VALID UNEXPIRED PASSPORT.

i'm freaking out right now. I just called to find out how long it takes to exchange my russian passport and they said 4 months at least!!! it costs a lot of money AND according to the new stupid rules i have to go to San Francisco consulate to pick it up! I wasn't planning on doing it in the near future. And now what?

Any thoughts? suggestions? I asked my lawyer and he was certain it doesn't matter if my passport is expired or not

I would really appreciate if someone shared their I-751 interview experiences and what exactly they did with your passport.

  12. Mike & Sachie, thank you so much! still waiting what my lawyer has to say about it. I asked him about 2 months ago if i can go to an interview with an expired passport. He said,"yes and it s not a problem at all" I think the only reason they need my passport is to stamp it because they will take my 2 year expired card. So i suppose they will stamp my passport while i'm waiting for my 10 year card (if i get approved)

Mike&Sachie, when you went to the interview, did they check your passport? what did they do with it? and what did security guard check on the door to let you in? I mean i was told to bring my expirec gc, passport and DL or ID.

It's funny how they don't need your passport to file I-751 and everyone says you don't need it. And then out of a sudden they need it for an interview  There is no clear instructions!!!
