I am the USC and I am filing divorce from my husband who was here on a conditional greencard, but has left and gone back to Canada.
Does anyone know how I can go about having him served with the paperwork? We have an uncontested divorce, I just cannot find a straight answer anywhere online that tells me how I need to have him served.
I have been told I can send it certified mail, but certified mail through USPS does not send to Canada.
Please help!

Hello Everyone.
My husband and I have decided we are going to divorce. He has already moved back to Canada and has no interest in staying in America. (Guess we know he wasn't here for the green card.) However, we are supposed to send ROC paperwork in June 3rd for his 10 year GC.
Is there anything we need to send USCIS telling them we are planning to divorce and my husband has already moved back to his homeland? I just don't want undue stress or trouble for either of us.
Thank you for your help!

Yes that is if the other person can find a job. You also have twice the expense. It cost a lot of money to move someone and set someone up in the USA. Even with just the basics.
This is so true! My husband moved from Canada. Only a 7 hour car trip. And trust me, I make WELL above poverty guidelines and it's still been a struggle! Had I known of all the financial burdens of having a spouse not be able to work, we would have married and does the CR1 route instead of AOS from K1. It's been 11 months since he's worked and it's very stressful.
Something to consider.
Good luck to the OP.

My husband had gotten his social security card right after he arrived in the US on a K1 visa. It says at the top "Work Authorization with DHS Permission Only". Or something to that effect.
He is now a green card holder.
Do we need to go back to the Social Security office and have them send him a regular one without those words? Will this cause issues when he gets a job? Do we have to update SSA that he has a green card now and is now authorizated to work?
Please help! He has a great lead on a job and we should know if he gets it today or tomorrow.

I sure hope so.
The most frustrating thing for us, was when we went to the DHL/Loomis pick up to get my fiance (now husband)'s passport and visa package, and the damn company OPENED the sealed envelope that you ARE NOT supposed to OPEN! I was so mad! I went to the place (because I was still in Canada visiting when this happened) and told him that if we had to go to Montreal again (another 7 hour one way trip) he'd be paying for it. And it was a holiday week (Thanksgiving) when all this happened, so I FINALLY got a reply 2 days later from Montreal after sending them emails with the word EMERGENCY in it trying to figure out what to do!.
They said to send it back and it took them like 2-3 weeks to get it back to us. I was seriously so angry. I've never been that angry before in my life. And Montreal does not make it easy at ALL to get ahold of them.
Our AOS went flawlessly though. So once this is done, hopefully your AOS will go as smoothly as ours did. We got green card in less than 90 days from application. So good luck!!!

I'd recommend against transfering. By the time that is all done, you'd have been able to get an interview in Montreal.
Montreal for us was like 3 months out I think. We got approved NOA2 August 2nd I think and interivew was way in November. The week of Thanksgiving.
And that was like the only appointment left for another 3-4 months.
Good luck!!! Take the first available appt there is and run with it. I wouldn't go through the hassle of changing consulates

I don't think you can do the K1 and a work visa at the same time.
What I'd recommend is that you get married now, file CR1 so that you can work right away when its approved. You'll get a Green card right away when you enter the USA. As opposed as to having to do K1, get married and wait 3-12 months for green card. Just my opinion!
Good luck with your decision though and congratulations on getting married!

I had to contact my Congressman to inquire when we dealt with Montreal.

Glad I was too ugly for my husband! Or maybe we were both equally ugly? I don't know. The story about looks really has me interested though. I think somethings not being told 100%.

I just saw this after your earlier posts this year wanting status for yourself.
Did you ever get that updated? Are you able to AOS based on your ex wifes status at that time? What happened to the kids? Everything turn out ok?

Hi Meg!
My heart goes out to you! Just was looking for an update on this to see where things have gone? Any change with Danny? How about the pregnancy?
Take care sweetheart!

as a former Quebec resident, and a poutine snob lol i have to criticize every place i've ever had poutine. if its not actual POUTINE SAUCE then the whole thing is going to suck. its not brown gravy, its not chicken gravy, it's a special gravy and there is ONLY one gravy that works...ST-HUBERT POUTINE GRAVY.
you can order the cans or the dry packages easily enough. the wisconsin cheese curds to a great job even if i do miss the ones the priests in quebec made
Awww. That's sad! Haha
Congrats on your pregnancy by the way! Hope everything is going well! Blessings!

I must say my husband and I are blessed. Yesterday on 9/11 we received his green card via 2 Day Priority USPS mail. What a blessing. I really thought the whole process would be longer/drawn out/more painful. But it was a piece of cake! No issues even with a 90 day overstay.
We are heading out Saturday morning for a visit to Canada since he hasn't been home in 9 months. I couldn't have asked for an easier process. I'm done with USCIS for 21 months until we have to remove conditions!
If anyone has questions, feel free to contact me on here. Otherwise I'll see everyone in 21 months for removal.
God Bless and continue to have faith in the system. It does work for those who don't try to cheat it.

Ahh ok. I'll wait a day and check! Thanks!! You've set my mind at ease.

Where is it located on the page? I didn't see it.
This is all that my thing says:

I did get a tracking number for mine.
How long after they sent the email saying it was sent did you get a tracking number?
-
I didn't know they had Poutine!! Must be one of the only places down here. I'm doubting any locations here in Houston would have it...
I'll have to check.
Was your 8 days including weekends? I got an email today saying it was sent out today! So hoping that it will be here by Friday. Worst case Saturday. Do they give you tracking numbers? I saw one post where they did get a USPS tracking number but wasn't sure if that was for the green card.

New York Fries does have some of the greatest poutine ever!

Yeah my husband is from Ontario and they actually have poutineries that you can go and get it with different toppings on it and such. Burger King even has poutine in Ontario. It's weird but so good!

DH might just have to make a trip to Grand Rapids. We live down in Battle Creek, MI. He got all excited when I told him Buffalo Wild Wings has Poutine.
We were at the one on Alpine in Grand Rapids. They definitely have it! :-) So worth the trip, my friend.

POUTINE! Buffalo Wild Wings in the USA is now serving poutine! You have no idea how excited I was when I opened the menu last night and say in big letters 'POUTINE'. My heart almost skipped a beat!
It was the best, most delicious thing I have had in the last 9 months since we haven't been back to Canada since December.
So if you are a displaced Canadian in the USA you can go to Buffalo Wild Wings and get a home delicacy. I guess it is only for a limited time so make sure you get there soon!
Thought I'd share my excitement with everyone.
-
Thanks for the positive vibes Tom&Stacy I am hoping so! I need some poutine (although I discovered last night that Buffalo Wild Wings now has poutine! Whoda thunk?) and a Canadian beer. HAHA

Word of advice: we went for my husband's AOS interview Tuesday. He was so nervous! Poor guy. But the interviewer said she had a few more checks to do after we left so we didn't get an instant approval. On our way home about an hour later we got an email saying we were approved and his card was in production.
Nervousness is the biggest thing. Some nervousness can be expected. Your life revolves on their decision. But be yourself, be polite, professional. Dress professional. (This shows them you are serious about your intentions). Know your information. Know your fiance's information. If your fiance is going with you, that's even better. Show mutual intentions.
Good luck. Don't overanalyze questions or think too hard. Gut instincts are good.
Divorce before Conditions Removal
in Effects of Major Family Changes on Immigration Benefits
Posted
My husband and I are getting divorced. He has already moved back to his country and will not attempt to stay in the USA to remove conditions. He wants to basically go home and live there.
My question is, does anyone know how to serve divorce papers to someone in another country? He is Canadian and lives in Ontario, while I still live in Michigan.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!
