  1. Hello guys I'm Liz and I just married my husband last July 20, 2013. I got here last second week of May through K1 visa and my visa will be expired on Aug 19th.

I never filed for my Social Security Number beforehand since we thought we can file it after we got our original copy of our marriage certificate. So we went to the Social Security office last Thursday 8th of August to file for my number. Now the office called me today saying they can't process my number because I should have processed it on or before the 5th of August. In order for me to get my SSN, the lady on the phone told me to have my visa renewed or get my green card. We are about to send my Adjustment of Status application but I'm so worried about the SSN.

Here are some of my concerns:

When can I apply for my security number?

Am I still legal living here in US without that number?

I want to drive and get my license but without it, I don't think I can.

I want to work too, but how long would it take me to get my conditional green card so I can process my SSN?

I am sincerely asking for all your help. Please enlighten me. Thank you for having time reading my post.

    -Liz

  2. Thank you for your reply :)

Actually I've been complying the required documents for it but "Application sent by post (from overseas) must be accompanied by a bank draft made payable to 'Head Criminal Records CID ' through a Singapore-based bank" - this is what I'm confused at. I've been to 6 different banks already and they don't issue bank drafts that is in Singapore dollars. It says there too about a Singapore-based bank but in my area I don't think there's one. :(

  3. Does anyone know here if we need to comply the certificate of clearance in Singapore? Based on what I read on their link it says they don't give clearances to non-citizens. This is the last requirement I had to comply and I am so confused whether to get it or not.

I am a Filipina who worked in Singapore and now I'm back here in Phil. I got my papers transferred since I'm not working there anymore. I am on the process of completing my requirements but I'm always stuck with the certificate of clearance that I need to have and I am so confused since SG doesn't issue clearances to non-citizens.

Your help is highly appreciated. Thank you very much.

  4. I suggest you call the DoS Hotline and make the same inquiries.

What is the number for the DoS hotline? I have called USCIS and they have her address correct as to where she currently lives. NVC said that I needed to update her address with them not the USCIS. But the NVC didn't have her info in July. They didn't receive it until November 10th. I've called the Singapore Embassy and the Manila Embassy with no help at all. And I've also emailed them both and only Singapore responded. I'm about to go bald!!! LOL!!!! :(

  5. Try to call the US embassy in Singapore and inquire if they receive your packet. If they do then tell them to forward your packet to the US embassy in the Philippines since your fiance is no longer in Singapore. I hope and Pray the everything will be okay soon!! GOD speed!!

Getting through to someone at the embassy was very difficult. I was told that I have to contact the embassy in Manila and see if they would accept the transfer to them. And they wouldn't tell me if my paperwork was in Singapore yet or not. I'm getting nervous about it all.

  6. I hope my experience this morning can help some other people out there who feel they should have heard something by now.

We had a May 8th receipt date. I have called into the 800 number on numerous occasions and everyone said "just keep waiting." So this morning, I called and asked for a supervisor (is this the "Tier 2" I've heard about?)

The supervisor looked up our case and we learned we were actually approved back on November 5th but never heard anything about this.

I contacted the NVC after that and learned that the packet was actually sent to the embassy on November 20th!

So if anyone thinks things are lagging in Vermont, call and ask for a supervisor!

Same happened to us as well. Called last week to find something out from Vermont and asked to have a service request put in. Yesterday I received a letter from the national visa center stating the packet had been approved and sent to the US embassy. Called the USCIS and they said it was still in initial review!!! It doesn't make sense.

  7. Yesterday I received a letter from the NVC saying my I-129F was approved and sent to the Embassy for processing. I did not recieve an NOA2 from the USCIS either and they are still saying it is in intial review. When I filed I put my fiance's address as Singapore. She returned to the Philippines last July and I called the USCIS and changed her address back to the Philippines. In the letter I received yesterday it stated that the packet was sent to the US Embassy in Singapore. I called them and the gentleman on the phone stated that I would have to call the Embassy in Singapore because it's already left the states. He said that they may forward it to the Philippines but he wasn't sure. Has anyone experienced this before? And now what do I do now? I sent the embassy an email yesterday but of course they are closed. I'm planning on calling them tomorrow night which would be first thing their time Monday morning. Any help would be appreciated! :)
