I'm happy to share that card production has been ordered yesterday June 3rd. I am beyond relieved and wish that you all get similar news soon. Good vibes.

I get a little scared when I see other people submitting so much stuff (600 pages?!!!!) cause it makes me feel like I didn't have enough but anyway, I hope the process ends soon and you get your conditions removed.

Talking about that, I submitted my RFE documents mid April and decided to call USCIS on Monday to ask exactly what the heck happens on 5/4 which is the date on my extension letter. I asked the guy if I would be out of status and he laughed like I was talking crazy. He then explained that no, that's not the case as long as you have a pending case, but that I should schedule an INFOpass so I did. And the next one is on May 14th.

So for the real question. I'm in the process of applying for jobs and they ask for status information. What do I say? I don't know how to nicely explain such a long and complicated process in a 10 line email that should have more of a focus on my skills as opposed to how much of a right I have to be here. This is actually being really discouraging as I don't want to be turned down for lack of understanding. Have any of you been on this situation or have any helpful insight? I would really appreciate it.

Hello everyone. I just wanted to update my RFE response date. We mailed everything on tuesday 4/16/13. Now we wait and stress out about it. It made both my husband and I very upset to have to go through this process of having to prove to strangers that our marriage is in fact, for reals. I know I shouldn't rant because we're all on essentially the same boat, but you guys understand better than anyone I know. Hopefully we get a response soon. And also everyone else in here who is still waiting. Let's hang in there!

Well #######. I got an envelope from USICS and I was all excited, convinced that this was finally it. It wasn't. I got a freaking RFE. The notice date is Feb 4th. I will keep you posted and let you know when I submit all the stuff they want. I'm so incredibly upset.

Wow, i's been a long time, I haven't heard anything and check the USCIS website and it says that is being reviewed. My wife and I went to Poland in September and we traveled to several countries, Crpatia. Montenegro, Serbia, Hungry, Albania and a couple of other countries and didn't get hassled once except when I came back through at Philadelphia. Shes still in Poland and coming back in two days with an expired GC I'm wondering if she will have problems. She has her extension letter but that doesn't mean she won't have trouble. I'm wondering when we will get her new GC?

Yes, it'll be what it'll be. I had an update/touch on my file on Sept 26th...prior to that it was only at the submisison of the biometrics in June...so something happened. Best to chill and wait....

I wrote a really long reply and it went somewhere I don't know. But anyway, don't worry. I went to Peru and went back a few days ago and IO in Miami knew exactly what the extension letter was. So, no issues at all.

Just a question out of curiosity: why do you have to surrender your old passport? I understand every country works differently but when I renew mine I get to keep the old one.

So after getting my NOA I received my biometrics appointment for June 6th (this past Wednesday). I went and got it done in like 10 minutes. So far this is all I can share. I hope I don't get a RFE. But so far it seems that being late didn't cause too much trouble or as much trouble as I first expected (I was a complete mess when I first realized what happened ) I'm trying to stay positive and I hope the best for everyone

I have a theory that people with GCs expiring soon get their NOAs faster...

The people after me who have gotten their NOAs say their GCs are expiring in June, and my husband's expires in August just like you. Still no word for us. Thoughts?

You may be on to something. I got my NOA very quickly, 5 days after the date on it to be exact. When I did this, my GC had expired for 2 days. You can see what happened here:

So maybe they do worry about sending NOA's out for people that are closer to having their GC expiration date near. Either way, I hope everyones' journey is mostly worry free

PS: Has anyone tried traveling with the NOA1? Some friends of ours came across some problems not so much entering the US, but leaving Colombia and returning to the US. It seemed that the airlines counter person did not recognize the NOA1 and challenged it.

I am scared of running into issues like this one later this year when I travel. I will be going to Peru in October and since I doubt I'll have anything official by then I will be traveling with my NOA. You can't expect everyone to know how things work around here so I think it's bound to happen. I plan on contacting the airline and asking for advice in this matter.

Nelson, what ended up happening to your friend? How did he or she get around this issue?

On another note, I went to my biometrics appointment today. Got there a little early and was in and out in a matter of 10 minutes. Now I'm hoping I see some movement in my case.

Got my Biometrics appointment in the mail today. The notice date is 5/18/12 and I've been scheduled for 6/6/12! I updated the google document.

About the affidavits, the way it was worded in the instruction page, it sounded like it would be nice to just send those in. I submitted 2: one from a friend I have here in the US from the last 7 years and the other from my husband's coworker who hangs out with both of us socially. I honestly think it has to mean something and I guess it also depends on what things they mention in the letters. Ours were kind of specific when it came to what kinds of activities we did together.

Anyway, that's it! Oh and I checked the online thing it does work now with the receipt number from the biometrics NOA.

You won't be able to see your case online until they've sent you out the biometrics letter, it will have a different case number you can use online to track the status.

I'll keep backup versions just in case someone gets drunk and deletes everything

Ginmartini: Please keep positive. We filed my wife's I-751 4 months late and we just received our NOA2 (appointment for Bio) today. Also, please note that the attorney being referenced is not my attorney. We were pretty much in a panic mode on a weekend night and decided to reach out to an on line attorney to get their opinion.

Were you able to find out more about your friends case? Have you finally decided that late filing isn't ALWAYS going to end in going before a IJ? Have you decided that an NOA1 IS an acceptance of late filing? You can't have it both ways... I will be referencing this thread in the above thread so that they are tied together so people don't freak out seeing your advice there when it differs to the advice/results here.

Oh wow. I wish I had seen this comment before. I was freaking out after Cino's comment that you can have your check cashed and still have your I-751 rejected. But I'm calm now that I got the extension.

I got the 1 yr extension!!!! This is insane. I thought I was gonna have to wait longer. Just seeing the envelope in the mailbox this early on actually freaked me out. I thought it was gonna say something bad.

How late was your co-worker and what was his or her excuse? I now kinda wish I hadn't seen your response--I'm freaking out again.

Oh my! I just checked my bank account and they cashed the check today 5/8/12. Since it is 2:30 in the morning I will assume they cashed it yesterday and it's showing up on my account today. SO nervous

Good that you included it. You should be ok since it was only a couple days. Hopefully you get an understanding case manager not a jerk one.

I hope so too. Now that I was looking at all my USCIS papers I noticed why I was convinced it was the end of May. The letter in which the actual GC comes, has a date of 05/27, which means I got my GC almost a whole month after the day I actually got my permanent residency. I wish I had included that in my letter. Sigh.

Did you include a letter stating why you are filing after expiration? Its one of the required items when filing late.

I did. I didn't say much so as not to bore the person reading plus I didn't really have a long explanation. I said the truth, that I was under the impression my due date was the end of May, and that I understood it was not an extraordinary reason to miss a deadline, to understand we wouldn't file late on purpose and that we were sorry. That's kinda what we said. I mean it has to be clear it's human error, considering one of the affidavits was dated to before the expiration date (cause I was convinced I was doing it all in a timely manner).

I can sympathize with your situation. I am Peruvian and live here with my husband. I love being here, but I miss my family a lot (haven't had a chance to go in last couple of years). My sister has applied to get the visitor visa TWICE since I came here and has been denied both times. Even in her case I would presume she has more than enough reasons to go back to Peru, since she's married to a Navy guy and all her assets and property are there. She applied by herself both times and was denied. You can't ask why, all you can do is wait and try again (and pay, of course). So yes, I blame all the Peruvian people who came here and overstayed, for denying the opportunity to come here for a couple months and visit me. Shame on them.

I hope next time your brother-in-law applies, he gets it. I can see how painful this must be for your wife.
