  1. Is there a website similar to VisaJourney for people immigrating from other countries to Canada? Although I have gone from Canada to the US, friends of mine are going the other way to get married. This website has been an amazing help to my journey. I was hoping there is something similar that folks can recommend for Canada as a destination. Thanks in advance.

  2. Yes. I was sent notification that the interview was waived. I have a current EAD and AP card. I've been working ever since I first got them last year in August. The card expires Aug. 21, 2014 and that's what I'm trying to renew.

    Forms are going away today.

I don't have a Green Card yet. The only card I have is my EAD/AP and something stating that my I=485 has been accepted and is being processed. Plus the letter that said the interview is being waived.

  3. I have to renew my EAD and AP card as they expire Aug 21, 2014. I also am scheduled to travel back to Canada that day because I'm in my brother's wedding on the 23rd. My question is my current immigration status still a K1 Visa holder even though I was married in May of 2013 and filed for AOS in June of 2013 ? I know I am a C9 eligibility status as I am still waiting on the AOS but I wanted to make sure I still was under the K1 Visa for immigration status. I don't want to do this incorrectly because I'm on a very tight timeline. My fault. I didn't know it expired that quickly.

Also I read something about if I'm still waiting on my AOS that I don't have to pay the fees again for EAD and AP ? Is that correct ? Thanks.

  4. Thanks to all for taking the time to respond. And to the person who's interview is the same date much luck to you ! Perhaps I'll see you there. My appt. is at 9:00. Hadn't thought about the train. Possibly that's a great alternative. I'll talk with my mom about that. She's coming with me for moral support !

    Kind regards,

    Rachel

  5. Also, I brought an additional copy of everything that I had already submitted, mostly just to ease my anxious mind! I didn't want there to be any risk of additional delays if something had somehow gone missing or been misplaced between the time I submitted my packet three forms and the date of my interview. I also brought the two additional passport photos for the same reason, if anything had been misplaced or overlooked on their end, I wanted to be prepared for it. Of course, everything went smoothly and they didn't ask to see any copies of those things and they didn't need the extra passport photos that I brought either. I don't think that you're required to bring them again, but if it would ease your mind to know that you've got copies of everything 'just in case' then I'd say bring them.

Also, regarding your quick interview date...maybe you lucked out and got an opening when someone had cancelled? I know when I first looked at interview dates (when I was impatiently waiting for my packet four letter) I was pleased to see that there was one date available within 4-6 weeks and when I looked again a couple days later there were TWO dates in that time frame. However, when I received my letter about a week or so later (the end of October) and was authorized to make my appointment, the next available date was mid-February.

Thanks very much for all of your information. I will bring extra copies of everything ... that makes good sense. I will look at the Holiday Inn. Cheers !

  6. In addition ... I have one question. In my packet 3 submission I gave them 2 copies of the DS156 (with pictures attached) and one copy of the DS-156K. It's on the list of documents that I have to bring with me along with Birth Certificate, police cert, medical exam ... etc ...

Since I sent those in my packet 3 submission, do I have to bring them again with me on the interview day ??? Or was this just a list of everything required in total ... and if I have sent it in I don't need to bring it again ?

Just want to make sure I get this right. I had 6 passport photos taken but if I need 3 for the medical, and I've sent 2 in already I won't have another 2 to put on the new copies of the DS-156 if indeed I need to bring them again.

    Thanks !

(very excited here ... can you tell )

  7. Good evening !

The consulate sent me the email today that said I could schedule the interview and when I logged onto their site I had one ... Tuesday March 26th at 9:00am !!! 33 days away !!! I thought I had read that Montreal takes a lot longer than that to schedule appointments.

I am hoping to get some hotel recommendations if anyone has them. I tried searching on the site for the keywords Montreal and Hotel but am not having any luck. I would like something within walking distance if it's not too expensive. I live in Ontario, about 10 hours away so will drive on Monday and sleep there the night before my appointment.

Thanks to anyone who can give me a decent referral.

    Cheers !

    Rachel

  8. Hi all. I hope someone can help me figure this out.

I received the instructions for the Packet 3 from the Montreal Embassy for filing the paperwork for the K1 Visa and it says that one of the things I need to send in is the confirmation receipt regarding Form DS-160. It gives me the website I should go to submit this online (https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/). So far so good.

I log into that website and go to the instructions for the DS-160 and there is a link where it says the K1 visa should NOT use the DS-160 but that I should use the DS156 instead. The Packet 3 lists the DS-156 and DS-156K for me to complete and send into the embassy in addition to the DS-160. CONFUSION !!!

The packet letter says I need to send in confirmation of submitting this form online but the website says I should not use this form as part of the K1 Visa submission.

Which is it ? I've attached both the excerpt from the Packet 3 letter and the website instructions.

Thanks, in advance, for anyone who can help me solve this.

  9. My apologies ... I should have done some more reading on this site before starting the post ... I found the NVC phone number. I'll follow up with them in a week or two and work with them to direct my package to the proper embassy.

This site is a true wealth of information. Thanks to all who have spent a ton of time putting this together for those of us working our way through the process.

  10. My fiance in the US received notification that his I-129F had been approved on Jan 14, 2013. I just realized that on the G325A where we had to fill out what embassy to go to for the visa we chose Toronto Canada because it was one of the choices in the electronic form and I live close to there. Only now, after reading a lot of posts on this site, do I understand that the Toronto embassy does not handle the interviews for the fiance visa.

What should I do to get my paperwork directed to the proper embassy? Montreal is the closest to me.

When I signed into my account at the USCIS the update is as follows so I'm assuming it's about to be sent to the NVC. Am I better to wait until it gets there to try and have it redirected? How would I go about doing that? Is there more than one NVC or do all petitions go to one office?

Thanks so much for any help !

  11. My daughter has visited her fiance in the US once since having begun this process. She brought with her paystubs, an employment letter (even though she's only a temp and it states this), tax returns, a copy of our lease (she's on it as a co-tennant), and information about where she was staying and contact information for him. She also had non-refundable return plane tickets. The border at Fort Erie Ontario (Peace Bridge) was where she crossed because she was flying out of Buffalo International. The only thing the customs official asked her to do in addition to always having this paperwork with her was to have her passport stamped by Canadian customs when she returned from her trips so that she could prove that she was returning when she said she would.

Having all possible paperwork at hand (tons of it) was very helpful and showed them that she was prepared. She did not have a copy of her fiance's petition and has not been asked for it. She's crossed into the US twice now. Once to go shopping with me and this last trip to spend Christmas and New Years with her fiance.
