And a 'well educated German' with a flourishing economy may find it necessary to immigrate if he/she is not getting paid what they deem is fitting for their educational background, there's no upward mobility in their area of expertise in the near future in their home country or their country can't offer them a job based on the high level qualifications they possess.
Of course, but than he or she would try it the legal way rather than illegal... Sorry, enough with this... Back to topic...

Just checked the statistics of B1/B2 Visas in 2011. Sadly only totals, not filtered by countrys but it's not a bad rate at all:
Issued: 4,349,087
Refused: 1,303,960
FYI: http://www.travel.state.gov/pdf/FY2011NIVWorkloadbyVisaCategory.pdf
Edit:
Here are the refusal rates by countrys:

Germany got 18.6 %... Giving me some hope

As I said to Noah in PM:
I also would like to hear only positive answers rather than getting negative replys. Cause that just makes a better feeling.
But I come to a Forum like this to get the best, or lets say "the next to complete" information as possible and that also includes the "bad news".
After gathering all the informations (pros and cons) I'm able to form my own opinion.
So I think it's not a bad thing at all having someone around who is always assuming the worst. The important thing is that an OP is able to make his/her own conclusions out of all answers he gets (personal attacks to be ignored).
But I agree to 31deenero that there is actualy absolutly no economic reason for a well educated german citizen to move to the US (or any other country) illegal. Economy is growing, plenty of new jobs to contract all over the country and still one of the best social systems in the world (even when it's not as good as it was decades ago). Of course there could be several other personal reasons to migrate than only economics, but I'm sure the quote of illegal immigrants from germany (or France or UK) is way way way way less than any other countries...

@Everbody: Thanks for the good wishes! Could need them
@GandK & Basalt: Thanks for the Tipps, but as Outback Annie mentioned, I've got friends over there, and that's why it would be much more easier and cheaper for me in the US.
@Anh map: Yeah, I recently saw pictures of Block Island. Looks like an awesome place! Have to do this!
@Outback Annie: Jep, I thought about that too, but then I thought the 6 Months of paid vacation could be suspicious then. Cause which employer would give you 6 Months paid with no GOOD reason?!

Thank you!
It would be next to Newport, Rhode Island... I think it could be alot worse!

Thanks for all your great replys! I can understand your doubts about going to the US for losing weight. Sounds like a oxymoron
But I easily managed to live fat and unhealthy in Germany for about 29 years now. You're able to live that way in any "firstworld-country". On the other side, you also can live healthy in every "firstworld-country", too! Even in the USA. It's about you (me in this case), not about the country you are living in. And to get me on that track I definitively need a change of pace!
So why necessarily the USA?
Cause I have some real good friends over there who would help me with my plan. That's way easier as going to another place completely alone.
And of course the fact that they would let me live in there "vacation condo(?)" almost for free is a big factor cause I have to continue to pay the rent for my appartment here in Germany, too.
I think I'll give it a try, just praying that a denial would still let me the chance to go for 90 Days on VWP!

Hi all,
I'm so glad I found this Community. Great job guys!
At first I have to excuse for my bad english, but I hope you guys understand my babbling
This is my problem:
I (m/29/german) want to go to the US for 6 months with a tourist visa for loosing a serious amount of weight (or even get a good startboost doing this).
I know, it sounds strange but I need to break out of my highly stressfull daily routine here in Germany. 90 days on VWP wouldn't be enough.
My employer has the same opinion and would support me on every way he can cause I'm kind of special qualified for the work I'm doing for over 10 years now and he is highly interessed in my future healthiness (unfortunatly we are talking about 180kg on 1,90m :/ ).
He would allow me a paid (a little less than my actual income but surely enough to make a life) vacation for 6 months to get "my #### together".
I also have an invitation from good friends in the US who would allow me to stay in there house for that time, more or less for free.
Do you think I have a chance to get a B2 Visa with that initial position?
My employer would write a conclusive statement for the consulate that he is offering me that "paid" vacation and that he's expecting me back after 6 months.
Also the rental agreement for my appartment and of course the appartment itself here in germany would continue to exist. Do you think these are strong enough ties?
I also have a valid VWP from a vacation last year (march). Will this become invalid when the visa got denied, or am I at least able to go over for the 90 days when it's denied?
Thanks in advance!
Mike
Tourist Visa for losing weight

Hey!
Short update:
Had my interview today at the consulate in Frankfurt/Germany. Everything went fine! I became my B1/B2-Visa approved without any problems! Thanks everybody for the given informations and advices.
I just told the VO (who was very nice and kind btw.) the whole true story as I did in this thread. He approved it without any discussions. He even didn't looked at all the documents (contracts, letters, bank statements and so on) I brought.
For me I can say if you are honest, straight forward and have nothing to hide you don't have to fear the interview (at least as a german citizen)! Hindsight is easier than foresight
So, if someone is in the RI-Area between July and December write me a PM and come over to grab a beer, I will have a water then, but it will do the trick
