Hello Everyone,

My husband submitted his fathers paperwork last year and we are currently waiting for the interview. We have had a friend ask us if his father kids (ages 2 and 4) are coming now or at a later date. We responded that we only submitted paperwork for his father and nothing for the children as my father in law will do so in a couple of years. She then responded that the children will automatically get approved once he does regardless if we put their paperwork in. Apparently that happened to her (They submitted her paperwork and once she went in to her interview they asked her to come back with her daughters passports and when she did they stamped them). I find this very hard to believe given how strict this whole process is. Can someone confirm or deny this?

BTW- she's obviously a non credible source but I'll rather ask now then be completely surprised at a later time.

My husband was the only one who applied since I am a citizen by birth.

As for biometrics, we did not rush getting it done early because he had to wait regardless. See, my husband filed for his citizenship 3 months prior to being in America for 3 years. I found out on VJ that the USCIS schedules interviews 1 month prior to someone's 3rd anniversary here in the US. (But only if they arrived in America based on marriage.) If that's not the case for you, I would definitely try and walk in early. Many have done it and have succeeded. He had no problem walking in early for his 10 year PR card.

We mailed his application April 30th, fingerprints were June 6th and I am not sure by how many applications we filed but as for the N400 we only filed once.

As per my husband:

He arrived 30 mins before his interview and parked across the street (which was $12 for an all-day pass). He went through security and was directed to the interview floor. Upon arriving, he was asked for his interview letter and was told to take a seat and that he would be called in 10 to 15 mins. 15 mins later, he was called by one of the officers. When he arrived to the room, he was told to sit down and to hand over his passport, green card, social security and driver's license. Once the officer reviewed it, he told my husband to stand up and was sworn in. He proceeded by asking my husband questions 47 to 53 on the N400 application.

He then asked him the following questions:

Do you know what a terrorist attack is?

What is a criminal? (My husband answered "someone who doesn't follow the law like someone who sells drugs", the officer asked him to give him a simpler answer so he replied “someone who steals from a store.") I thought these 2 questions were a little odd because I never read about someone being asked these questions in any VJ experience, however they can ask you anything and these two questions are relevant to the application itself.

He then proceeded to ask him the following questions:

Who is the father of our Country?

Who is the Chief Justice of The United States?

How many voting members are in the House of Representative’s?

How many years do Representative’s serve?

In what month do you vote for the President?

Name a war in the 1900's

He made him read the following sentences:

Why do people come to America?

George Washington was the first president.

He told him to write:

The people come to America for freedom.

He then asked him:

To state his full name

Asked if he has ever changed his name

How many times has he been married?

How many times has your wife been married?

Were you in the military in another country?

He then congratulated him and told him he passed. After a few signatures, he shook his hand and told him wait outside until someone delivered instructions on his oath ceremony which is scheduled for this coming Monday.

I need to build up my credit here in the US. I have a bank account with the credit union but they do not offer secured credit cards.

So I was thinking about my options because I really do not want to be denied since that will affect my credit score.

My partner has excellent credit (800 range) so is it safe to get a credit card and have them co-sign? We are both at the same bank so do you think they'd approve me for an unsecured credit card with a low limit? We do not have joint accounts.

Also, my partner has a store credit card and is paying off a $500.00 balance with the minimum payment each month.

Would it be a good idea to have my name added to that account? We never miss a payment on it. Will this help my credit score?

My husband was able to build his credit by taking out a phone plan at TMobile then after a couple of months, he opened up a line of credit at Walmart.

Will my status online update when they send out the biometric letter?

The form is only good for the initial notification.

Even those who filed the form will need to access their online account and set up text notifications.

If you got the initial notification, then you'll knkw your case number. If you didn't, then you'll have to wait until you get the NOA.

Once you get your NOA, you can use the case number to turn on future notifications.

@JimmyHou- where can I go to put on the notifications?

One is good enough, except the question asks for a specific number, like "Name two government level positions"

There are multiple questions that have multiple answers to them. For instance: what does the judicial branch do? Does my husband have to answer all of the answers given? Or will one or two be sufficient?

I know that there are some questions that ask for one example but then some questions do not.

In Line: Date you received e-notification about your interview date

YellowLtr: Date you received the yellow letter in the mail. This is not your interview letter!

Int Ltr: Date you received the official letter in the mail regarding interview

Intview: Date of your interview

Oath: Date Oath taken

Field Office: Your local USCIS office where you would be doing the N-400 interview
