  1. Hello all,

This has been a great forum for information. I apologize if I put this in the wrong forum. I was hoping to get some input on my situation.

I will admit that I am new to this entire situation (US Citizen by birth.) My fiance (dating now for ~ 3yrs), entered the US legally (sponsored by her permanent resident father (she was 16), now US citizen) around 2004. While here, she went to school full-time and finished her undergrad degree.

Around June 2010, they went to adjust her status (from what I've read, this is done within 90 days of expiration.) The lawyer did not submit the paperwork in time (didn't submit it at all), and her status slipped as a result and removal proceedings were started. She went through some initial proceedings, however with the latest immigration enforcement changes (she has no criminal past), her removal "case" was postponed until 2014. In lieu of this, the prosecutor threw out the case. Since the case was no longer pending, the initial removal proceedings have started up once again. I'm guessing that the outcome will be the same as before.

Today, she lives in the US with her father. We are engaged to be married, and I've done some research into adjusting her status/removal of conditions. I've looked over the forms (i-130, i-765, and i-485) and they don't look too difficult to fill out (I do my taxes by hand.) I make enough to be her sponsor, but I was curious to know if lawyer is really needed for these forms? After searching through this forum, the process looks relatively straightforward.

She has done biometrics before (as part of her original sponsorship by her dad), and has a current work authorization (has to be renewed yearly I believe.)

    Thanks.
