What did you do during your J1? Please read the waiver form regarding the conditions/qualifications for waiver.
-
Hi. I did this waiver for my J1 visa some years ago. Although, I forgot the process, it's really very easy. You basically have to explain why the waiver should be granted. In your case, because you want to live and plan your life with your future spouse and also adjust to living here in US. You will actually need to ask your home country to free you from the 2 year home residency. Once your home country issues you a no objection letter, then you shouldn't have any problem with the US to approve it. You should also include in your letter that your home country did not pay for anything for your travel or stay in the US and all your expenses were paid by you personally during your J1 stint.
Hope this helps somehow.

Hello VJ'ers. I have a question coming from a friend.
She had a crewman's visa, was inspected and has an admitted stamp on her passport. After her contract at the cruise ship (she got all her documents back, passport etc) she decided to stay here and did not go back to her home country. Her question is: is she considered a jumpship? Can she adjust her status based on marriage since she was inspected. She said that she was told only the ones that were not inspected are not allowed to adjust.
Please reply if you have any idea or know a similar situation.
Thank you very much. God Bless.

Hi. same thing with me. I went to Hackensack office to change the name on my card and to remove the DHS condition. i was told that since my green card is new they would need to verify it with USCIS and it would take about 4 weeks! It's already been 2 weeks for me.

I received the interview notification mail today and it contained an insert saying " Notice to applicant: if you have ever been arrested or detained....you must bring the following to your interview". Is this standard?
Standard. Good luck on your interview OLD_DOG!
Congratz to those who got approved!

2 more days to go... feeling kinda stressed out!
been there done that haha! I think it's a natural feeling but don't worry too much, I am sure you'll be approved. Dont forget to put all things together as early as now and make sure you have all you need. Clip all proofs together and all originals so it's easy to give it to the IO. Look him in the eye when you talk to him and make sure you have you and your spouse's picture in your wallet, my IO seemed satisfied when he saw our picture in my wallet.
Goodluck and God Bless!

LAST UPDATE: The 10-year GC arrives by mail. It is beautiful and yes, it is green!
Whoever did the post-2010 redesign has done a super job. Wish I could say the same of my pic in there too,the one taken during the biometrics. Looks like I was scared to death of the whole process
A total of 90 days from start to finish, no RFEs. Smooth, seamless and pain-free process. A lot of lessons learnt along the way, some that will last a lifetime. I now wait the completion of the three-years-of-GC mark to file for naturalization.
To all those of you still in the process: all the very best of luck. To all my other fellow March filers, it was great doing this journey with you. Am hoping we can all reband together again, sometime in the future. Happy ROC-ing!
Keeping my fingers crossed that all those of you having/waiting for interviews also reach the finish line soon. Keeping you in my thoughts.
Congratz mrsnotbonjovi! Enjoy your 3 yrs of no hassle. Until after 3 yrs...Mine is Card ordered for production. Hopinf it arrives this week! Good luck and God Bless to the rest of us in the process of interview and waiting. Let's meet again on ROC!

ADIT stands for: Alien Documentation, Identification & Telecommunications System. It is just another name for biometrics and since you have recently done your biometrics this will not apply to you, so just ignore it
Sigh what a relief! Thanks ChrisPG as always

Hi Chris just hang in there. I am sure you will get the notification soon. My friend had an interview yesterday too early morning and he just got the update later today. So you should get yours tonight!
As for me, I just receive my email notification. I have a question, it said something like this:
On June 13, 2012, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center
Does anyone know what ADIT processing means?
Thanks MRSBONJOVI!

Hello VJ Friends!!!! Thank you for all your wishes and support!!! Im back and APPROVED! Interview was as easy, plain and smooth like satin
Here's my DETAILED experience:
My interview was at Newark at 930AM. Place was jam packed some people are already standing. I have a lawyer but they sent someone else who I have no idea who and what looks like. She just called our name and introduced herself. Oh well, was aggravated but let it go just the same. She said it's not usually that busy and we might have to wait an hour or 2 delay( sigh). I know hubby was nervous, poor lad went to the restroom 2x although he kept on denying it. Anyway, we were ready to wait. Hubby and I were just observing those people around us. I thought we were underdressed when we came in and saw some folks in suit. But inside the waiting room, there were some people who wore suit, some just polo shirt and some just t-shirt. Some I thought didn't even bother to look in the mirror before going Hubby wore long sleeves polo and I wore slacks and cardigan. One couple were asked to be interviewd separately. Their IO and the male came back and said now it's your wife's turn. Another couple went in and out in about 5 mins with their lawyer. We were looking at the IOs and trying to figure out who's strict or not. At around 950ish (surprised!) our name was called over the PA system and asked to proceed to one of the doors. Our officer met us at the door. He is serious, said good morning and lead us to his room. I didn't sit down but hubby went to sit right away. Had to poke him to stand up The IO swore us in. The he asked for the original docs. I brought an expanding folder with divider (Staples looked like an attache case for only $12bucks). Clipped all orginals and proofs in separate. He run through our passport then took my I-94 and staple it to his file(our file).
Then he asked my hubby: How long has ur wife been in the US?
Then me: What's your full name and address?
Then hubby: What's your wife's bday?
Were you married before?
Was your wife married before?
When was she divorced? Hubby answered the date that I filed which is not on my divorce paper I was thinking a big OH NO and the IO was looking at the paper....then my hubby said but..it's not finalized until CORRECT DATE!
He then asked for additional supporting docs (proofs). When he saw a copy of our bank cards he asked if we have it. MY and hubby took out our wallets. Can't find mine so I had to take out most of my wallet's content which is A LOT! Then I saw the IO looking at the pic in my wallet (our wedding pic) Then he said looks good.
He asked for photos. We gave him 4 albums. He run though the first, then kinda flip through the second and ignore the rest. He didn't look at our wedding album, he just looked at the cover. HE asked me the standard questions. I said no sir to all. He again said, everything looks good and I am going to spproved you but our system is down so I cannot do anything My husband asked again. Are we approved? The IO repeated was he said then said you should receive your GC in the mail within 2-3 weeks. Do you know aboout the 90 day rule? Your lawyer should be able to explain to you what you should do to remove the condition. Shook our hand then took us to the exit door.
ALL this happened in LESS THAN 5 MINUTES.
The IO gave us a piece of paper that said something like: I-485 final review no other info or documents needed (something like that, I do not have it with me right now)
I am so happy , my staus online did not change yet. I think IO said something like 48hrs to updated the system. My mind was already floating when I heard the word approved
Thank you everyone for your prayers and support. I truly appreciate and enjoyed your company. Hope my experience help you. Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Come prepared, don't be nervous, look at the IO in the eye, and MOST importantly PRAY for GOD's blessings and guidance. I had a lot of worries before the interview and though I've had a lot of family support and VJ family support, it's only when I pray sincerely that I know for sure everything will be good.
GOD BLESS US ALL

Thank you very much for a very well written experience. I promise to post my experience too as soon as I am done. Congratulations! Cheers!!!

So i can begin this process before marriage? Is that what you're saying? Thanks for your input.
You should process the waiver before your husband petition you and before your J1 expires. Waiver is one of the requirements if your husband is petitioning you so you should have it before then.
-
So, i've been here for 4 months with my J1 visa not expiring till Jan 2013 but engaged to my boyfriend (US citizen) to be married in October. Visa says '2 year rule does apply'. Does this mean after we get married i'll have to be separated from him for 2 years?
There is a J1 waiver for the 2 year home residency requirement. You can start that process now. The best way to find that info is through your consulate. I am sure they will help you. It takes time and a lot of paper work to get this done but you can do this on your own. When your get your waiver, you don't need to worry about returning to your home country.
If you don't have a waiver, your visa application will be denied if he is going to petition for you.J1 waiver is one of the requirements when you file the petition. Goodluck.

Hi. Submitted my N400 application on 6/5 and did my bio on 6/28. There has not been any update on my status online. Is there anyone experiencing this?
I mailed it to Dallas, TX lockbox. I am beginning to worry.
