Yea the SSN is not something that just magically arrives for you as a K-1 entrant. You need to apply for it yourself. The person may have confused the fact that the CR-1 entrants often do get their SSN in the mail without having to apply for it because of a notation on the forms for them.
So when I get my SNN, then am I allowed to work or not? or I have to wait till my AOS gets processed?

You should be able to, bring your marriage certificate with you when you go. Brought mine and they issued the ssn in my married name.
GREAT, thanks. This was kind of confusing for me since I asked the guy at the embassy and he said no, but then I kept reading stuff about people getting their SNN prior to filling AOS.

Thanks,
Ok, Ive been here for a month now. When we signed our marriage certificate I changed my name to his last name. they attached a SNN change of name form.
So when I go get my SNN I get it with His last name, my married last name???

Birth Certificate Translation
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas

For the Birth Certificate translation for AOS, can I translate my own document since I am fluent in both languages?
In the USCIS web page it says: Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.
The certification format should include the certifier's name, signature, address, and date of certification. A suggested format is:
Certification by Translator
I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.
Signature_________________________________
Date Typed Name
Address
So can I translate my own document or it has to be a 3rd party?
