  1. Hello everyone,

    I have been waiting to write this post for years!

    Last Friday, 12/14/12, I had my Oath ceremony and became an American citizen! The ceremony took 2 hours, which seem to have flown by! My husband couldn't attend but my two best friends were there so of course we took a lot of pictures. More than the ceremony itself I loved the atmosphere, you could feel the excitement in that room! This was by far the best Christmas present I could ever ask for!

    Now on to the Social Security Administration and the Post Office to get that blue passport!

    Everyone who is still waiting, good luck to you, you are so close!

    And thank you to everyone who posts on this forum, you have no idea what calming effect that has had on me, especially when it seemed like USCIS forgot about me. I will be back when my parents decide they want to start their process, but until then, once again, THANK YOU!!!

    Merry Christmas!

  2. Coloso, the reason I didn't do it was because at the oath ceremony they take your green card away. I could have done that and applied for a passport, but I probably wouldn't have gotten it by next week. Anyway, I thought of the big picture: I've come a long way, and all I have left is the oath ceremony, and I didn't want to get in trouble when re-entering the US.

    Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting!!!

  3. Could someone please update my status?

    I had my interview this Wednesday (Oct. 24) at the Baltimore office. I was scheduled for 9am,got in the building right at 9 (there was a long line of people who had to go through security) and I waited for 35 minutes before a lady called my name. The interview took about 15 minutes. It started with the civics and English tests (very straightforward), and then she went over my application. She asked me for my name, date of birth, social security number, and my husband's full name, and then all I had to do was confirm what I had written in my application. She told me everything was fine and she recommended my application for approval. There was an oath ceremony at noon which she told me I could attend, but I had to postpone it because I'm going on a cruise in a week and wasn't sure my passport would arrive on time.

    The funny thing is last night I had to call the cruise company for a completely different reason and I actually found out that as a US citizen I would have been able to re-enter the US without a passport, with only my ID and the naturalization certificate. Oh well, there's nothing else to do but wait until they schedule me! My husband has jokingly said this is only an incentive to get me to get off that boat when we come back, otherwise I'd stay on a tropical island ;)

  4. A year and a day after they received my papers the USCIS ordered the production of my new green card. Regarding the N-400, as of the 23rd I am in line for an interview. It's funny because the 23rd was the first day I stopped checking their website (I'd been doing it daily). I gave in today and couldn't be happier!

  5. After receiving the approval letter in April, I haven't received anything else from USCIS. Two months later I called them, as instructed. The first lady couldn't tell me anything other than what I could see online (that in July 2011 they received my papers)so I asked to speak to a supervisor. After being on hold for close to 25 minutes this lady started asking me questions to verify my info. She asked me about 5 questions about me and then asked what my dad's first name was. My dad goes by his middle name so it took me 2 seconds to realize what she was asking and to tell her my dad's name. It was too late - she told me I didn't know my dad's name so I needed to make an appointment and go to USCIS to find out what I wanted. I was so mad! After 2 months of waiting she wouldn't even let me tell her why I hesitated! Anyway, I decided not to make an appointment (summers are very busy here) and I called again on the 15th of this month. I spoke to a very nice lady who asked me a bunch of questions but didn't tell me anything other than to wait for 15 days and if I don't get anything in the mail I should call again. I am happy to report that this morning they finally order the production of my green card. (It only took a year and a day).

    I don't know if people haven't updated their info or if they are still waiting for the decision, but if they are, I have my fingers crossed for you! It should be over soon! See you on the Naturalization page!

  6. Can somebody please add me to the list?

    Filing location: Dallas, TX

    Field office: Baltimore, MD

    package sent - June 15

    package received - June 18

    NOA - June 20

    Fingerprints - July 19

    I also have a question: on the interview document checklist they ask for "proof of marital union". I read that may mean the same thing as the marriage certificate, or it may mean additional documents, such as bank accounts etc. Any thoughts on this?

  7. I was wondering if people who got the approval letter but not the GC have applied for citizenship, or are you guys waiting for the card? Also, in 4 days it will be 60 days since my decision date, should I be worried that I haven't gotten my GC? I want to call and find out what's up, but at the same time I dread picking up the phone and dealing with them again.

    Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting!

  8. Hi all, I have made a habit out of checking this thread every Friday afternoon for the past few months in the hopes of calming down and learning about experiences so close to mine. I am Greek orthodox and I will celebrate Easter this upcoming Sunday - and what better Easter present is there than the letter I got in the mail today, the letter we are all waiting for?

    If you would like to add me to your list here are my dates:

    I-751 date - 7/12/2011

    NOA - 7/25/2011

    Biometrics - 8/19/2011

    Approved - 4/9/2012

    Letter received - 4/12/2012

    Thank you everyone who posted on here, your words have helped save my sanity these last few months. To everyone still waiting, I will be praying for you tonight. Hang in there, it will be over soon!
