  1. Even after checking the option in DS 230 part 2, there were delays in receiving the SSN..:crying:

At the POE, after the questions, just check with them that whether ur information has been entered in the "SAVE" database..This will ensure the SSN database system will be updated...and also the Visa stamp in the passport has a "A" number which will also be used for identification

After ur POE, u will first receive welcome letter, then green card will be processed and then u receive SSN..

Good Luck and Congrats once again..

    Thanks a lot :)

Any suggestions regarding things to be done after reaching USA other than getting these identity cards :o

I have to check them whether the "save" database has my updated address or not...am i correct?

  2. Thanx for the info Bro.... i am in F1 and only single applicant of my case ...so only i will hav to give the interview...ofcourse i know english very well...but some guy has written in Interview Experience that although u know english well but it is advisable to give Interview in native language so that we fell comfortable and relaxed......

In my case my dad is the petitioner and i do hav his old passport copy and new passport copy also along with old pics of me with my dad as well as new pics...

I just wanted to know is that do we hav to ask for interpretator or they ask themselves to us during pre screening????

I hav around 15-20 pics (Old & New) of me with my petitioner (dad), my whole family during family functions....I think these many will work.

This will be sufficient and u can decide on giving interview in any of the language. No problem.

  3. ohh....so you get your brown envelopes and passport in just 2 days....excellent.

do not open that brown envelopes , that envelopes you have to give officer at Port Off Entry (means fist airport of usa where u land )

at that time time they with take digital fingerprints ,and give you form for green card .usually they fill the form , you just have to sign them...and you will get your green card , ssn and welcome to America letter in approx 2-4 weeks.

and you have already applied for ssn , in ds-230 part 2..read the back portion carefully.although you don't get ssn after 4 weeks , go to district office and apply for ssn

Hey I have checked that option in DS230 part 2 asking for them to assign SSN. so they will do that.

Do we get all three (SSN, green card, welcome) at a time?

Can we change the address to where green card is mailed (other than the one entered in DS-230) while signing the form of green card at the port of entry..?

The reason why I am thinking to change the address is my petitioner is going abroad in 3-4 weeks after I arrive and he returns after 1 month. So he cannot deliver them to me. Do u have any idea on this?

  4. Dude Congrats for ur Successful Interview...

Can u please tell me Do they ask for Interpretator during Pre-Screeening ???

In which language did u gave ur Interview English or ur Native Language??? Were u asked for an Interpretator or they simply start questioning applicants in English..???? As asked by Sachin How many pics with photos did u carried with u ....and according to u how many photos should we carry....??? Do VO look at all photos or simply 2-4 only..????

Is it better to carry Old Pics or Latest Pics r sufficient ????

No don't worry about language and interpretor..they will arrange for u...if any one of ur family member knows english. He can translate to others and finally answer back to visa officer's question.

Its not about the date of the pictures. Take an ID proof of the petitioner which clearly identifies the photo of him/her (old Indian passport will work good) and try to catch up photos depicting applicants, beneficiaries and petitioner as more as u can. It depends on VO. He/she can check only few or all. More probability for checking only 2-3 as she doesn't spare much time on ur case.

  5. @jameskar

    that's great news man....:):wow::dance: :dance:

and as i told you before , they don't ask too many questions.

and it is strange that at 6.30 ,the small queue was already formed...!!!

now i will go to consulate at 6.15 :P when i will get my visa call letter.

and i also told you to carry pictures with petitioner., see, CO ask you for that...

and you signed documents of military , that you have to submit at near by post office in usa ,once you go there...

and plz tell me when the vfs couriered the "brown envelopes and passport " to you...generally they deliver in 2 days.

and i have a qun for you, how many photographs did you carry ? i have made 2 albums...i think it will be sufficient .

btw....enjoy , :) hope i will get my immigrant visa soon ,coz waiting sucks :(

have a gr8 life in states.

    Thanks sachin

I received brown envelopes and passport in just one working day after my interview (on june 7th)

The VO checked for a relevant photo checking for my petitioner, my mother and me which she found...so u can collect any number of photos for interview. VFS will allow only few to courier to consulate and u can carry remaining to ur interview. Have some good quality relevant photos and that should be enough.

Any idea on how many days it will take for green card (Do we have to apply for this after going there) and SSN seperately after reaching USA?

  6. Visa approved :D:P :P

Sorry for the delay guyz. I had my interview on june 5th. I was late by one day to post my experience. Special thanks to Sachin and Visagrant for guiding me and replying promptly for all my questions in this journey.

    Consulate: Mumbai consulate, BKC

I had my interview slot at 7:30 am. I reached consulate at 6:30 am by cab from CST (I stayed here). There was small line for immigrants when compared to non-immigrants. This pre-formed line is not the queue maintained by consulate people. But if u want ur visa to get finished early, u need to be in that queue. My mother is the principal applicant and I am the derivative beneficiary.

Prescreening room: it was just an initial check for the baggage and document folders. After this I was given a token in other room for which I have to monitor the screen for the token number to appear.

Once my token is called, we were called to window No:6. we were wasked these questions

    Officer: who petitioned u?

    me: told

Officer: when and how did he get to USA?

    me: told

Officer: When will ur father(other derivative beneficiary)) join u in USA?

me: after 2 years and he has some obligations here.

Officer: these are the papers on which we require ur signature for further procsing (one is abt joining in military and one is a document stating something (not important))

    Me: Signed the docs

Officer: Can u submit a photo of ur father and marriage certi of ur father and mother

    Me: given

Officer: Submit 2011 tax returns of petitioner

    Me: given

Officer: Take ur seat and wait for the next call

We were called by an American lady : visa officer…

VO: who petitioned and how and when did he reach USA ?

    me: told

VO: whe was ur petitioner’s last visit to India

    me: told

VO: show some pictures of ur relationship

    Me: here they are

VO: Show me the petitioner’s photo to identify him In the pictures

Me: shown old Indian passport of my petitioner

VO: Why did he visit India ?

    Me: told

VO: ur visa is approved and it will be couriered to u in 3-4 days and enjoy ur time at USA

    Me: thank you

Stay cool and keep ur documents perfect and answer them promptly. U are entitled to get the visa. I got it finished in 4 hrs and actual interview was just for 3mins by the visa officer.

Thanks again to everyone :) :)

  9. Thanks everyone here...for support...

I got my interview scheduled on june 2012....

just want to know this info

I have a doubt whether I have to submit packet 3 to Mumbai consulate or not....I know packet 4 is mandatory....but i am unsure regarding packet 3...

wad sort of documents will they ask during interview for applicants who want to join the principal applicant at a later date?

can any one pls help me with this issue...

  10. Congrats....and all the best for ur interview...JYousuf....I have some questions...pls answer...

Are u told to get the copies of I-864 (AOS) to the interview? My petitioner has submitted AOS (I 864) already to NVC...I have only photo copy...is it sufficient to be shown in the interview?

Are there any one in your family who is planning to accompany you at a later date...if so did consulate ask for any supporting docs for them ?

When is your date of interview ? Does mumbai consulate ask for packet 3 (DS 2001---->applicant readiness form) and packet 4 (interview)....

Do u mean to say that we dont have to submit again those docs through VFS that were submitted previously to NVC ?

    Please reply
