  1. Yahoo! K-3 approved (107 days) and CR-1 appoved (123 days) in the same day! Took a while, but happy that things will be moving along faster now. Time to finish getting packet 3 in order and collecting the information for packet 4. How cool :D

Congradulations Brad on getting your visa in hand! Although it took a while, it's definitely worth it. Kinda jealous of your trip to Bogota though, would like to have been down there myself.

  2. Hey everyone, count me in for the Colombia Club. Cool to know that there are enough of us who've found love in Colombia that we can help each other out in the visa process.

I've been planning to use James' shortcuts for the CR-1 and PeterMiami's shortcuts for the K-3. While I don't have a lot to contribute now, I'd be more than happy to contribute as our visa process continues.

  3. Hey everyone, count me in for the CR-1 Colombia Club. It's good to know I'm not the only one who has had the good fortune to find love in Colombia.

I have applied for both the CR-1 and the K-3. I've been planning on applying James' shortcuts as far as the CR-1 is concerned and the shortcuts from PeterMiami for the K-3. There's a lot I still don't know, but as our visa process continues, I'd be more than happy to contribute when I am able.

  4. Thanks for the reply Riblet. Yes, I have heard that the choice of agent could be done via email, but thanks for the "heads-up" anyway. I thought that as long as my wife will be sending other things to me via snail mail, I ought to take advantage of that and get a DS-3032 form signed by her as well. "Just in case" for some reason an email choice of agent doesn't work in our case. Also, I followed the link you provided and it is for the DS-230 instead of the DS-3032, would you happen to have a link for the new DS-3032 as well?

  5. My wife is from Latin America and, therefore, has four names instead of 3;

first name, middle name and two last names, one from her father and one from her mother.

Also since we are married she is assuming my last name.

On the G-325a the applicant needs to put down their family name.

But I'm not sure which family name she should put down.

Also, on a side note, on which form should she use my last name so that it appears on her identification here in the US?

    Thanks in advance

  6. Thanks for the clarification Yodrak and terri. I appreciate the distinction made between what income I have made and what income I will make, as well as the issue of whether or not my income is sustainable.

It's also good to know that the visa is not doomed if I don't initially pass the income test. Since I'd like to save some time by filing before I have an income, with the knowledge that I'll likely have income by the time they ask for it.

  7. Well, I've been a full time law student for the last 3 years, so it's pretty much impossible that I can come up with 1years income before november. Not too likely I'll be able to get a co-sponsor either. But I've also read that they want a letter from your employer and 3 paystubs. I'm sure I can come up with that.

How do the paystubs and the letter figure into the equation? Seems like they could calculate your yearly income from your paystubs?

I also happened upon something called a 'blue slip'? People get this who do not initially fulfill the income requirements? Does anyone know the consequences of getting a 'blue slip,' or what must be done after getting one?

    Thanks

  8. Thanks for the quick replies. I do not have substantial assets now. And sadly, there is a lot of transition right now among my family and friends, so I do not think any of them would be able to be a co-sponsor right now. I'm sure that once I begin working I'll have no problem making the income requirements, it's like an issue of efficient timing.

I don't want to wait the entire processing period after I've found work, because I think I could do some of that waiting while I don't have a job, and while the affidavit of support isn't needed yet. I'm wondering though on the other side of the coin, what would be the consequences if the affidavit or proof of income is needed before I have it.

    Thanks again

  9. I cannot start looking for work until november, but I can likely find work, after I begin looking, before February. I would like to begin the paperwork for my wife's visa before november instead of wating until I actually have my job to get a lot of the waiting out of the way. My question is, if I begin the paperwork in september or october, but I do not find work before it is needed for the affidavit of support, what happens?

Will my wife be penalized from getting a visa in the future?

Will we need to begin the entire process again from the beginning?

Will there be new paperwork to be completed?

    Thanks
