  1. So I have a question re: travel. I traveled out of the country recently and looking at everybody's timelines, it looks like there's a significant chance that my application could be approved and my new green card produced while I am abroad! I did my second set of biometrics after transfer to the CSC on Jan 10th, and I fly back to the US on Monday 26th Jan. If my card and letter are out of date/cancelled by a matter of days, will i still be able to use them to enter the country or will I have to wait in limbo until I can get access to my green card?

  2. I called today to check on my case as it's been 6 months since I filed. Lady on the phone just said, "yeah, they're processing things slowly at Vermont". Role on 5pm and I receive a text message update telling me on Dec 1st (two days ago!!) my case was transferred to "another office". No word on what office until I receive my new letter. I'd say that it's clear from this conversation that the people on the phone are not privy to anything more than what we see when we check our cases on uscis.gov :-p

I'll update my details when I get word as to which office is processing my app. I'm assuming it's California, is there any chance it's somewhere else???

  3. Is anybody else having trouble with the new USCIS site regarding checking their case status? When I sign in, it takes me to "My Cases", when I click on the receipt number, it just takes me to a page with links to change my address or submit a case inquiry. At the top of the page it says "my" in italics, and that's it. I've tried signing in in various internet browsers, the good news is, the last time my case was touched was early October when I changed my address, so I guess I haven't missed anything??

Thank you in advance for any assistance....

  4. Also, you're added to the list!

  5. Hey MissDinaDee, I don't wish to sound alarmist, but if I were in your position I would see if I could have a free chat with an immigration lawyer, I believe USCIS need to receive your package and have officially started processing it by the time your green card expires. I'm sure you'll be fine and the lawyer will tell you that, but it's always good to check these things before they become a problem.

If my information is incorrect, apologies for the freak out!

  6. Gosh that was quick! I mailed it 06/03/14 with next-day delivery. My NOA came back today (06/09/14) with a date of 06/05/14.

  8. Finally filed today! My window opened March 17th but due to calamity after calamity, here we are, filling less than two weeks before my conditional residency expires... I forgot to include a cover letter, think that'll be a problem??

  9. Hi all,

sorry it's been about 6 weeks since I last updated, a lot happened in the interim and I forgot to update..

Firstly, I got approved, yeay! I got an email and simultaneous text message on Friday June 15th I think, the same day we signed for our new apartment.

Then I had 9 days of organising for my wedding, a religious ceremony with about 14 days in total spent in some sort of celebration. During that time, I received my EAD/AP card and GC on the same day (d'oh).

I only had one small problem with my card and none of it was to do with USCIS [who were very prompt to change our addresses in the system when we registered with them. When I left to go on my honeymoon, my GC wouldn't scan automatically. When I was returning, it didn't scan at the departure airport in the foreign country we visited, and they marked my ticket and ID which seemed to result in going to secondary examination.

Coming back through US immigration was a breeze (especially compared to the last time when I had an out-of-date travel signature on my I-20!) and it felt good to officially travel 'as a family'.

wishing those who have already heard their news, best wishes and those waiting to hear, best of luck.

Should any future filers read this and want some assistance filing, I'm definitely no expert but we seemed to have no troubles and went from filing AOS from F-1 to GC in 2.5 months. Feel free to PM me (hopefully my notifications will forward to my email) and ask for help.

Hope to 'see' you all in two years for ROC!

  10. Hi!

Can u tell us about why ur stamp was not properly filled ? what was missing???

    6. There was a slight problem when the IO looked at my passport only to discover that the immigration official who processed me through LAX back in 2003 on a J1 visa did not fill in the stamp properly and so the IO needs to verify that I entered legally on said J-1 visa, dang.

    Thanks!

    Hey,

The problem was, the stamp from the official didn't have the "J1" under visa status or the date (or D/S) under allowed until. It was pretty much a blank stamp, d'oh!

still no update on the website....

  11. Interview experience!

Hey all, very interesting interview experience today, not particularly good or bad, just interesting.

    1. We arrived last but were called first, I guess because our form was put to the top of the pile by virtue of arriving last?

    2. We were made to swear we would tell the whole truth (kinda reminded me of A Few Good Man)

    3. The IO warned us that due to my husband being from MO and me residing in MD and the two of us moving to NJ, he was unsure if he would have jurisdiction to make a final decision but that he would process the interview as if he had jurisdiction.

    4. We were asked simple questions about each other, dates of birth, birth places etc, the IO was particularly interested in making sure we were financially independent.

    5. The evidence we provided was pretty flimsy, by virtue of us not having moved in together yet (move-in date is this Friday). We provided photos of our courtship, a joint bank account statement, car insurance with both of us on it, and a lease in his name and a utilities registration for the same address in mine.

    6. There was a slight problem when the IO looked at my passport only to discover that the immigration official who processed me through LAX back in 2003 on a J1 visa did not fill in the stamp properly and so the IO needs to verify that I entered legally on said J-1 visa, dang.

    7. He told us that he does not usually make decisions straight away and that he would have to check my J-1 status and where jurisdiction lay before making a decision. He told us to expect one between 6 and 8 weeks but that it would most likely happen sooner than that.

So, all in all, it lasted 45 minutes, husband and I had some personal things in common with the IO and so there was about 30% shooting the breeze, 70% interview.

Right now I'm in limbo, my applications for EAD and AP were approved but I have no idea about my green card status and so there will be no planning of a honeymoon for us just yet :-( I thought I had gotten over my obsessive checking of the USCIS website to check for status updates, but it would appear that the curse has struck again! I'll update when I hear something.

Wishing you all a better, smoother experience but with an IO as nice as ours, he was lovely!

  12. Hi everybody, sorry I've been AWOL these past few weeks, am planning moving and our big religious wedding ceremony, so time has been short! Thank you all for your best wishes and I was so pleased to read that everything seems to be moving if not for all of you, then at least for most of you. Our interview is at 1pm tomorrow so I'll do my best to write my experiences down by midnight tomorrow. We signed on our new place and move in this Friday, so tomorrow is immigration stuff and Thursday is packing day, yeay!

  13. Wow, 39 days from application to interview is crazy fast. Who would have thought government bureaucracy could move so swiftly when they wanted to?

Which office will you be interviewing at?

It's my belief that early walk-in biometrics does speed up your case, based on anecdotal evidence from a lot of people who have posted here. At the very least it cannot hurt your case, which is all the reason I needed to go ahead and do it.

    Hi Hypnos,

We're interviewing in Baltimore, it's not too far from where I live, plus finally my husband and I are both on the East Coast so that makes it easier! It's amusing, we really thought this entire process would take so long that by the time they got round to interviewing us, school would be over for both of us and we'd be in our new apartment with all the natural co-mingling of stuff immigration needs, instead, we're 'about' to sign for a place, 'about' to move in together and 'just about' to fully co-mingle our finances etc. I would not be surprised if they request further evidence from us! Also, I'm sorry to hear your walk-in was unpleasant, it really seems like a set policy should be in place across the board rather than people having to chance it and maybe getting someone nice (me) or getting somebody awful (you and others).

wishing everyone best of luck in their processes, anybody else heard back regarding anything yet?

  14. Hey all, just got a text msg telling me my 485 had been updated. I checked the site and we have an interview scheduled! It's june 13th, so not long to wait. I have a couple of questions:

    1. Would it be too premature to book a honeymoon for July 5th? We should get our AP document some time soon, and if they make a decision at the interview we should be able to get a stamp in the passport to prove my conditional residency, at least, that's my reasoning.

    2. My original biometrics date was May 7th, this past Monday. Four days after my appt date I have received an interview date, with the FBI taking approx two weeks to process fingerprints, is this proof that early walk-ins help speed up your case?

Thanks for your assistance and best of luck everybody!

  15. There isn't one. You can still get an RFE at your interview.

Hey ChrisPG, yeah I'm aware they can come at the interview, I'm just wondering for the interim processing of the EAD/AP card. In all honesty, I feel so out of the loop, I'm not waiting on an EAD for working, I'm still a student, but am frantically counting the days until I get my AP so I can go on my honeymoon!
