  1. 3 weeks ago my I-485 was approved and I recently received my temporary green card. Prior to this I was on an H1-B Visa. I am in the process of attempting to change jobs ad i want to be sure my paperwork is in line to be able to do so.

Do i need to change my SSN or card to reflect the change in my status. My SS Card currently has 'Valid for work only with DHS authorization' printed on it.

Along with the green card, Is this sufficient to allow me to work for a new employer?

Thank you in advance for the help

  2. to which address did u send it ?

    USCIS, P.O Box 805887, Chicago, Il, 60680

I am asking because if you send it to the one for the express courier , you should be fine since an employee will receive the packages. but , if you send it to the pobox address, I am not sure , but may be other members have better experience

I did not send it via Express Courier which is why i am concerned. I doubt there is anyone at a P.O Box to sign it?

  3. Monday is Memorial Day so Tuesday may be your sending day.

    I have 2 questions:

If she intends to use your name, then start using it with immigration and don't hop in with it later when you remove conditions or apply for citizenship. #7 is where she puts her maiden name. They'll get it that she recently married. Why change names in the middle of your immigration journey? There's no magical name change date. It evolves over time. It's when she starts using it. It will take awhile to notify her bank, credit cards, DMV, etc. but she can go by your name today and it's okay.

If you read the Instructions (click) then you will see the addresses on page 5 under Filing Form I-130 with Form I-485.

I always use USPS Priority Mail cardboard envelope. It takes two days. FedEx overnight is a waste of money because it's going to sit in a pile a long time.

    - Thank you for the advice. Would the USPS Priority Mail cardboard envelope be classified as 'Express Mail' or regular mail evidently this effects which address i send it to.

    That's my opinion, not advice.

  4. I am sending the I-130 packet tomorrow along with all the other forms. I have 2 questions:

    1. We got married last weekend and my wife has put her maiden name on all of the forms. If she changes her name in the meantime will this cause problems in getting it all approved?

    2. What is the address that I need to send the packet to, and how should i compile and send it. i.e envelope, flat rate shipping / fedex / ups / usps.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hello, i'm filling out the I-864 (affidavit of support) and am confused as to how to answer question 25.

My wife is a USC and i am the Intending immigrant, currently in the US on an H1B visa.

My wife is currently in Grad school and makes $0 and therefore we will be using my income. She had a job, and filed a tax return for the past 2 years, 1/2 of 2011 & 2010 but not in 2009 as she was a student. There is a check box on Question 25 stating that I (she) has filed a tax return for each of the three most recent tax years), and then space under it to write in the Total income for each year. Should I check this box and put 2009 as $0 or should i not check the box and leave question 25 blank. or any alternatives?!

Thank you in advance for you help

  6. I have all the forms filled out ready to send in and need to check something.

Am I right in saying the I-130 along with the G325A are to be put in one envelope and the I-485 along with the I-131, I-864, I-765 are to put in a seperate envelope and then both of these envelopes placed in a larger 'packet' and all sent to the following address:???

    USCIS

    P.O. Box 805887

    Chicago, IL 60680-4120

Am i supposed to separate each form with anything other than a cover letter?

    Please advise!

  7. If you feel you need a lawyer, get one. However, unless you find yourself having difficulty understanding the forms or if there is some major red flag you haven't mentioned, you probably don't need one. Your case sounds pretty straight forward and there is a good chance it will be done by October anyway if you file next month. H1-B is a dual intent visa so you can continue to work and travel using it while your AOS is pending, but applying for the EAD and AP is a good idea anyway (and will almost definitely be approved prior to October if you file in May) just in case your AOS is not completed by the time your H1-B expires.

Thanks for all of the help. I'll tackle it myself to start with. It seems like I will get a lot of help from people on this forum.

  8. I am a UK citizen working in the US on an H-1B Visa. I am marring aUS citizen in May 2012. I will be applying for adjustment of status visa.

Do you recommend i use a lawyer to prepare my case for me? If not, then should i have one check over all of the forms once i have filed them out?

My H-1B expires in October 2012 so i will need the authorization to work and travel before this expires. I don't want to make mistakes and keep having to re-apply seeing as time is of the essence!

  9. You will each provide your own G325a but an I-130 is not something you apply for. It's something the US Citizen "files". You posted in the K3 visa forum, but that visa has been unobtainable for more than two years. Just what immigration path do you have in mind? If you're here on an H1B visa, I would think you would adjust status, rather than seeking any visa.

Birth certificates should be the long form, yes, but the foreigner's birth certificate is not needed with an I-130 filing. It IS needed with an adjustment of status filing though. Again, just what is your immigration plan?

Ah yes, i am in the wrong section! I will be adjusting status.

Which section should i be posting in? i have several questions regarding the forms i need to fill in.

  10. Hello,

My fiance and I are getting married in the US in May 2012. I am a UK citizen in the US on an H-1B VISA, my fiance is a USC.

I am starting to prepare all of the forms to apply for the I-130.

On the G-325A - Biographic Informtaion, do we both need to fill out a seperate form and send in Birth certificates??

If, yes do they need to be the long form certificates including my parents names, and also do they need to be the apostille stamped service (certified copies)>

Thanks in advance for your help,

    Lewis
