The deal I made with the wife before she came here: If she wants to sent money home, she can get a job. She did, and she does. She also helps with the household expenses. I cover the groceries and all the rest of the bills. Every once in a while, she makes lambing, and wants me to buy something just for her. Usually it is inexpensive, so I give in after a little resistance.

Let me get this straight. Are you an American, trying to be smartass about Filipinos? You obviously generalized in your statement that all Filipinos conform to your idea. Well, just letting you know that I don't send money to my family in regular basis, but mostly gifts, so they don't live like "one-day billionaire". They worked hard to buy what they wanted, not sucking money from me to make themselves look good. And I will gladly invite you to our house in the Philippines, to show to you that our ceramic floor is shinning even though we don't have helper.
Your statement is implying that all Filipinos are like that. You are talking in particular with a very limited basis. If Filipinos spend money the way you imply, then, why there's rich Filipinos, there shouldn't be because you said Filipinos spend all their money to look good and doesn't care about the future.
I saw a lot of crazy Americans, so should I say that Americans are crazy? Or should I say "some Americans are crazy as there are Americans that don't do crazy things."
My two cents, every culture have their own flaws but you can't conclude that every individual belong on certain culture is the same.

well, i would say that IF the fiancee earns enough to able to support herself when it comes to buying signatures or branded stuff when she gets to america, or let's say, lucky enough to have a very generous and loving fiance/husband who gives her anything that makes her happy without her even asking, then i don't think it's an issue. there's no question as to why she loves these things when even if she came from a less to do province like you said. we're not at all naive. lol i am from a small town in the province and i know about brand names and stuff, and when i get to america and work as a nurse, i can afford to buy expensive things for myself, too, and my fiance knows that. he's very supportive of me since day one. he earns good money, he can do whatever he wishes to do with it as long as family is still the first priority for both of us.

I believe you do have a say in what your government does with your money.
    #1 VOTE
    #2 RUN FOR OFFICE
#3 Contribute to a candidate you agree with.
#4 Volunteer for a group or candidate with the same opinion as yours.
#5 Post on the internet like you are doing here.
There are many other ways to have a say in what your government does. These are just a few.

The more you give, the more blessing you will receive without asking. So, stop worrying about it! There are people who contributes more in their society other than paying taxes, and yet, you won't hear a thing from them.

Huh... So, I earned a lot here, I have my husband resigned and went to school, I was breadwinner for a year.... does it in mean I live like queen? Or I am not a Filipino because I earned a lot and yet I am not living like a queen? Your statement said "Filipinos", so how will I categorize my self then?
One more thing, I don't wear Levi's pants. Well, my actions don't conform your idea of Filipinos, so I am not a Filipino? But I was born in the Philippines.

Don't be too quick to judge. You wouldn't know if it's for herself or plans to give it away to people who lives in the streets. Who knows? As long as you don't know the person, you can leave your judgment to your self. And hey, wherever your money goes, aren't you happy you can help?

Don't generalize Filipinos. There are just those who are capable of spending money for extravagant things, it is because they strive hard to earn their degrees and work hard for it everyday. It's definitely not for everyone. Filipino cares for the brand names only? Not true. I have a specific favorite Coach bag that i often wore. I have had it for almost 3 years now and it's still as good as new. And as for Levi's, if you tell me it's not of good quality, you'd be fooling yourself. Just sayin'.

well, opinions of people varies from one to another. i am not saying buying brand names and signatures stuff could bring happiness entirely to both of you and your fiance. lol i own expensive stuff waaaaayyyyy before i met my fiance, i love them, but it don't make me a materialistic person, does it? does one have to give up little things that can make her happy? if your husband is not capable to give you things or is not willing to pay extra for something that you wanna buy, don't impose. i know how to handle my money real well. i make sure my needs comes first. i am blessed i found the right one for me, my fiance never questioned me being like that or anything. we have the same view about a lot of things. i have always been like this and he knows that. i have a family who gives me expensive gifts, too. my point is as long as you are not demanding your husband or anyone to buy you and you can afford it yourself, go ahead. these are mere vices some women has, but life and happiness does not depend on it. NEVER.
you are lucky you found your partner who thinks the way you do. that's all that matters, right?

Hello people! A very lovely day today for me and my fiance. And I would just like to share our excitement as we both received an email from USCIS this morning (while we were talking online) stating that our I129F Petition is approved. This is one of the best feelings in the world! Truly! The frustrations we felt from the long wait and then, getting an RFE on March 2, 2012, the same time my mom got her approval, it was disheartening. Btw, the March RFE was a false alarm because they did not actually send the notice in the mail, it wasn't until April 24th. But anyway, all the disappointments just all seemed to disappear now. I was trembling and crying and thanking God for another wonderful gift he has given me and my Cody Don just in time for my upcoming birthday. Thank you, Lord, so very much. And for those of you who are still waiting, hang in there, you will have your time soon, too. God is always with us in our journey.
    Good luck to everyone.
