My family  finally  got their  interview  letter  but this  issue  "FNU" is written  as first  name cause  the column for Surname  on  passport is Blank  and both First  and last names are written  under Given name.    Does anyone  knows  how long does it take to get to get the corrected on the passport in India?

It takes around a week after you attend the updatation for Passport at PSK. So apply under TATKAL for the same for expedious re-issue of your passport. You can take your updated passport to the interview and solve the FNU issue there.

Got FNU removal email from NVC on 18 Aug 2017 from their records  and it is not required to be updated in DS 260 as it was filled with Last Name and First Name and got new passport as the same name configuration as was mentioned in DS-260 but passport number in DS-260 is the old one so will there be any problem during medical and biometrics or interview as the Interview might be issued with old passport number.I dont want to get DS-260 unlocked at this advance stage as interview letter is expected in last week of Aug or first week of Sep for interview date in Oct 2017.

Hai. We applied for CR1 Visa and received the interview letter (P4) recently, but NVC stated first name unknown (FNU) in front of the beneficiary's name. We're going to the interview at US embassy Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on September, 2017. Does this effect the visa and greencard once they're issued? How do I fix this matter before going to the interview? Should I get my passport changed? My passport will expired in 4 years.

contact your US Embassy regarding the same they will guide you properly about the procedure and try all efforts to resolve the same before your interview and update your passport by bifurcation of name or adding surname as it will save you from lot more hassles when you get into USA or try to make correction there.

I got re-issued with new updated passport with name bifurcation and send scanned copy to NVC FOR correction on Jul 22,2017 and same was corrected on 18 Aug 2017 as I got informed by E-mail.

    Hi Deepujhajj,

As you have already surpassed your FNU dilemma so I request you to kindly share the same with me so that I could follow the best possible route to remove the same. My brief case summary is as under-

The same problem is being faced by my son. He is likely to get his interview in Oct 2017. The new passport updated as Singh his last name is emailed to NVC on 22 Jul 2017 for correction of name and removal of FNU and still awaiting reply from NVC.

As you have already gone through this dilema of FNU so I want to know from your experience that if it is not updated by NVC before his interview then could it be corrected during Consular Interview?

By the way it will be great if you share your case outcome regarding the same.

     Thanks in anticipation.

(To Moderator,I'm sorry for the repost, initially had it under wrong forum)

I was hoping to get some insight abt my situation from VJ friends here,

    1. I'm collecting all the vaccination records for my wife(beneficiary) and she only has records until she turned 1. I looked up on CDC website and found out the panel physicians in her age group look for Dtap, MMR and Varicella. She has had Dtap vaccine, and had chickenpox when she was young so Varicella should be good too but never had MMR. Can I ask her to get MMR shot through her primary physician or should I wait till the medical appt. with panel physican??

    2. She had a problem with her surname left blank on her passport. NVC informed me it should't be a problem until she arrives in US, but upon inquiring how to fix her name on NVC file(they have it as xxxx,FNU)told me to obtain a new passport with corrections. At this stage, is it wise to obtain a new passport for her?? NVC did inform me that even if the case is completed before she gets the new passport, she can take it her interview and inform them about the change and they will stamp the visa with corrected name. Anybody had new passport obtained right before interview?

Any insights would be highly appreciated

    Thanks

What I did was I put Balbir as first name and Singh as surname in the form DS 260 because I did not want to put FNU as that is what will appear on his visa and all further documents. I just called NVC and stated this problem. The guy said that there will not be any problem. During the interview, his name will be pronounced as Balbir Singh and if asked, my dad can let the officer know what's the name issue on the passport. He said this is very common issue and happens all the time.

It will be better if you contact US Embassy also ( on phone and through E-mail as well ) where your interview is going to held because it is not the question of name pronouncement but it is related to what they are going to put as first and last name in your visa stamp...if they say it is OK then its alright otherwise proceed as per their direction. The email reply from them could work as evidence during interview.

I myself applied through IR-5 parents visa my Given Name in Passport is Kulwinder Singh while Surname field is blank....I filled DS-260 as Singh my last name and Kulwinder as my First name and there was no issue of FNU arised and I was issued visa with Singh as my last name and Kulwinder as my First name in Sep 2015...but during NVC processing of my son they started adressing FNU as his first name when Objection was raised with NVC they advised us to provide them updated copy of Passport with desired name congiguration..which we already did and send them by email on 22 Jul 2017 and awaiting their reply todate.

The only difference is that my case was expedited by NVC and all of my Financial and supporting documents submitted personally during consular interview at Delhi and there was no NVC processing was involved.

Why the way how is your name is mentioned by NVC in welcome letter ? I mean are they mentioning FNU or not?

    Hi All,

I had applied for immigration and submitted my Ds260 form.

In my earlier passport given name was "Karan Arora" and Surname was empty so in my DS260 form I had filled as

    Given Name: "Karan Arora"

    Surname: FNU

I got my passport updated (update to addresss) and it has the name as:

    Given name: Karan

    Surnames: Arora

Now will this be an issue as the names filled in DS260 and passport are different.

If so then what should I do now?

Would appreciate your inputs on this.

I am also going through the same process....I emailed to NVC with scanned copy of my updated passport to remove FNU from my records as I was advised by NVC to provide them with UPDATED PASSPORT with desired name configuration.

please let me know about your experience regarding the same as you might have completed the same procedure.

     Thanking you in anticipation.

Like I said, all of his docs have Balbir Singh as given (or first) name and no surname (or last name). So even if he tries to get the passport with separate given name (Balbir) and surname (Singh), he won't get it as there is no document supporting this. Do you think calling NVC may help?

You do not need any additional document for the same....you can do it by simply applying for reissue of passport reason bifurcation of name...I did it recently and it is very simple...when you get your new updated passport inform NVC by email and attach scanned copy of updated passport for reference.

I did this because I was advised by NVC to provide them    Updated Passport with desired name,if we want to remove FNU.

My mom called USCIS just now and an officer told her that since im over 21 my case got switched to F2B. USCIS does not notify people when they age out, instead they follow the age on the petition. This is a good thing for me since on F2B, they are processing may 2015 only. This will give me more time to subtract the petition was pending from my biological age when my PD on F2A becomes current. One thing I have to do is be proactive in calling NVC once my petition has been approved and sent to them to prove that CSPA applies to me.

What is your source for F2b processing information for May 2015. I applied for my daughter in OCT 2015 for F2B and her I-130 got processed by USCIS in Apr 2016 and alloted Visa Number that too after submitting a RFE

I'm sorry but you probably havent read similar cases. People were filed months before they turned 21 and once they were given NOA2, they call NVC and prove that CSPA applies to them, and of course we still have to wait for PD to determine my CSPA age. This is the category where i can subtract my age since a permanent resident filed for my petition in preference class F2A which is written on my NOA1 and as per uscis.gov I am not penalized for the time they did not adjudicate the petition. therefore, there is hope in my case. Sorry to bother you, A little bit more reading would help you understand my case.

Interesting case and positive thinking...wish you best of luck...you can raise your concern only after your  PD become current for F2A and your case remain pending for more than 16 months at USCIS...because as per current trend PD for Nov 2016 might be current in Oct or Nov 2018...if both of the above conditions will be in your favour and/or your age remains under 21 after applying CSPA then you must give it a shot and appeal to NVC to reconsider your case, who knows what is hidden there in the wheel of fortune and there is nothing to loose if your appeal may turned down...if otherwise than it will proved to be a jackpot...so keep your finger crossed and hope that processing might go beyond Apr/May 2018 to let you remain under 21through CSPA...best of luck again.

Recieved email from NVC and my wife name on the letter shows as FNU then her first and last name. In her passport she left her surname blank and in given name she put both her first and last name. So NVC has put FNU in front which stands for first name unknown. My question should she apply for new passport and have her name fixed and whenever her interview comes take her new passport or will there be problem with new passport. Will consulate question about new passport. Also if anyone has same problem and what they did

one more question i emailed Ds-3032 on 5/28 and havn't received any email back if it accepted. How long does it usually takes. thanks

Could you please share your experience and advice regarding FNU as we are going through the same and summary is as under-

  16. In indian passport my full name mentioned as XXX  YYY in Given name  and surname is left blank. In DS-160 I want to fill my Last name as YYY and First Name as XXX.

Is it ok, if not, then what could be the right one because if I left last name blank in DS-160 then they put my full name in Last name column  and mention FNU (First Name Unknown) as my first name and I want to avoid the FNU thing from my visa.

She should certainly apply with the attitude that it will be great to get it but it is not the end of the world if she doesn't.

School enrollment is a plus for the visa since it is difficult to transfer in the middle of a masters program.

If she denied tourist visa then could it pose any negative impact on her green card application ?

I think you have a good case. You have a student visa, you seem career oriented so you are not going to drop everything to be an illegal in the US or do nothing for years, and you have a job (even if part time, it shows you can get a job easily in Canada).

    You should just apply.

One more thing which I want to include is that she is already on waiting list at NVC for family immigration visa (F2B) petitioned through her mother. Is this cause any hindrance to her approval as it shows her cause to immigrate to US?

If so, then what type of document or assurance to be produced from her US citizen sister to overcome the same as she is govt employee in US and inviting her sister to US.

You should work on your writing. It is very hard to understand.

If this is a visitor visa, you just apply and see. There is not much you can do. Just give truthful information.

Thanks for replying and pointing for the poor writing which I realise after going through its contents.

I want to rephrase my querry as under -

    - An international Student from India pursuing Masters of Software Engineering since JAN 2017 in Canada.

    - Has permanent Job as Software Developer in a reputed Telecom Company [doing full time during May to Aug 2017 (Summer breaks) and then continue the same as part time during active study periods].

    - Parents are USA LPR and sister is a US Citizen and employed as a Software Engineer in a government organisation there.

    - Now she want to apply for US Tourist Visa and want to visit US during second week of October 2017 on the Occassion of her nephew's Birthday.

So what are the chances for visa approval and what document she must provide for the same to make her case strong ?

     Thanks .

  20. Tourist visa for Indian Student studying M.Eng in Canada and doing a full time job in A telecom company as a software developer ( Full time during summer break i.e May to Aug 2017 then Part time as fall semester starts). Wants to attend Birthday of nephewsince Jan 2017 and also doing a permanent job in A telecom company as a software developer ( Full time during summer break i.e May to Aug 2017 then Part time as fall semester starts). Wants to attend Birthday of nephew in the second week of Oct 2017. Sister US Citizen doing a  government job as Software Engineer. Parents USA LPR.

Also applied for F2B FAMILY IMMIGRATION VISA THROUGH MOTHER IN OCTOBER 2015 And in waiting line for the same at NVC.

What documents are required and what are the chances for getting visa ? and what are the other important suggestions while filing for the same ?

     Thanks.

  21. She cannot use the I-864EZ - read the instructions for this and you will see that she does not qualify as one of the rules is "no joint sponsor". Since your wife doesn't have an income, you will be using a joint sponsor.

Your wife completes an I-864, even if she has no income. The joint sponsor also completes an I-864.

I'm still confused about your wife's residency status. How long has she been out of the country? Does she have a re-entry permit?

Mother got PR on 15 Oct 2015...petitioned her son on 19 oct 2015...leave USA on 22 Feb 2016 (after 4 months 7 days stays in USA) due to some pending family obligations and dispose off her property in INDIA ....But only after getting her RE-ENTRY PERMIT approved which is valid for 2 yrs...as the IV form-260 and AOS are submitted while she was out of USA with due explanation for temporary absence can it still affect her son's Green Card. If yes, then what other precautions should be taken by her so that her son's visa process does not get hampered.

    Thanks.
