  1. Hello everyone

I will be flying to VN early on January. I just bought one way airline ticket last week via Singapore. Its very cheap

at 494 usd, but it is going to be a long 29 hours trips. Which I really don't mind at all, since I love flying with Singapore Airlines.

Hopefully if the interview and everything else go well then We will be united with my wife along with my daughter here in Houston.

My question is where and what is the smartest way to buy airline ticket in VN at reasonable price without being overpaid.

I understand that prices are vary depending on high or low season.

I guess most of you here have purchased airline ticket before or have it planned out everything ahead of time.

Please chime in and share your experience

    with me and others.

    Thanks much..

Hi, fellow Texan! There are many Vietnamese travel agency there in Houston, I would check out a few. If you fly with Eva Air, China Air, Asiana, they have offices in HCMC and you can always contact them to arrange or buy tickets back to the States. I did that several times where I bought my ticket here and contact them in HCMC to change the dates. From my experience, there is not much a difference in price from the travel agency vs. online. It really is a personal preference. For me, I take several factors into consideration and that's convenience, less stress, and the price doesn't vary much. In my case I had better experiences with the travel agencies. I use them for many years so I have established a relationship with my agency. I had complicated itinuary before and I emailed and called the office and she helped me out tremendously. The convenience is a luxury, I just give the agency the range of dates I need, then the agency would monitor the prices and contact me for the least expensive. Also, for a little extra they process my visa permit as well. Hope everything works out!

Hi, I really appreciate you posting the IR-5 Guide, it's very helpful. I'm just curious about one thing, and that's the DS-261 Choice of Agent or the next step. My wife is sponsoring her parents to come to the U.S. and we received NOA 1 stating they got the petition and the payment of $420 and that was back in November 2014. I have been checking on the status but it states they received the petition and the payment. Do we wait for another notice to proceed with the DS-261? I'm not sure if I can do more to speed up the process or just wait. Thanks in advance!

  3. Joe&Dzung,

It's possible that your wife has missed her oath ceremonies since it seems common to only schedule such ceremonies a few weeks in advance; in you case, a full month has passed.

The situation is not terribly severe, though. Here's what you should do right away:

    1) Go to your local field office as a walk-in INFOPASS (don't bother trying to schedule one on the online system) and expain the situation

    2) If you have missed the oath ceremony' politely ask them to schedule you right away for the next one and request that they hand you the notice letter before you leave

    3) If you have not missed the oath ceremony, simply ask them to print off another notice letter for you

    Good luck!

Thanks so much for your fast response! It's 1 1/2 hrs drive but hell we are about to leave (fingers cross). Thanks again Darth V.!!

  4. We are very concern because my wife had her interview back in middle of June and she passed. The officer gave a letter stating she passed but need additional documents (the same ones that I sent with the N-400 application) again! So when we home I sent more photos, mortgage deed, bank statements, etc. we waited and waited until I checked on her case status online and it says that the oath ceremony has been mailed out on July 1 !! We never received it. It's Aug 1 now and we don't know what to do. We have been at the same address, never moved and we received the NOA back in May for the biometrics appointment so why didn't we get the ceremony letter? I called the customer service and they can only request a call back from the local office, and who knows when they will get back with us. We're afraid my wife will miss her ceremony! Anyone experience the same circumstance?

  5. Ok, just got off the phone with Fiona. Everything went perfectly and exactly as we expected. The police document has been delayed and we knew that was already going to cause us to get a blue slip. Interview went well. They gave her blue slip and told her just bring the police document when she receives it and then can issue pink/visa. So yessssssssssss! So happy. Maybe cannot sleep tonight. She is so happy and excited......and hungry. Haha. She will post details about the interview later and I will repost on Visa Journey.

Police document is expected to come in the next week or so.

Glad to hear that Jerry. Maybe we can swing up to Dallas and see you guys!

  6. I called DoS today. They told me that my SO should receive P4 in about 2 weeks and that the interview date is scheduled for May 18th at 9:30am! Also, started my new job today and got moved into my new apartment. Things have surely turned around in the passed week.

great news! good luck and keep us inform

  7. for my timeline, I basically did a 3 page essay from the time we met till now..... but im confused on how to do a 10 yr residency. if you can help me with the format for both, it would be great, again thanks for all the help!

I prepared mine like a resume format. Thanks to another VJ member's (Joelemy) idea. Just fyi, on the blue slip it ask for the date, address, who i lived with (if any), their relationship with you, and their bdates. hope this helps.

  8. I got my Federal tax refund check last night which was file with my wife.

    It is very easy..

For those want to know the process..

    I sent my 1040 with W-7 form.

Included a marriage certificate and her Passport.

It got approved within 5 weeks.

you had better luck than me. i went to the irs office and i was told that i need my wife's original passport. The passport also can be notarized or official. If not they need 2 other form of id's from her. Along with the W-7 to request an ITIN. My wife got a pink slip last week so they kept her passport. Hopefully she will get her visa tomorrow and will fly here before April 15, if not i will have to ask for an extension.

  9. congrats on your pink, i was wondering if you had to do a relationship timeline and a 10 year residency. our interview is on april 27, thanks!

i had my timeline, 10 yrs residency and my wife's 10 yr residency at the time of her interview. she handed them to the CO but he pushed them back and gave her the blue slip. in the blue slip it requested those documents. so we just had them notarized again and when she turn them in last week, she got pink. so it's hard to tell with the VN consulate. i think it's better to have them though.

  10. Again, congratulations AJ. I know it has been an emotional passed 2 weeks for you both. Such good news. I told you it would work out.

THanks buddy! i'm sure you and Fiona get there soon.

Congratulations, AJ. My fiancee also went early and was there yesterday at exactly the same time. She explained a similar experience.

    Best wishes to you both.

thanks, congrats to you as well!

    CONGRATULATIONS AJ

thanks Joe, hang in there you and your wife will be fine

  11. First off before I go into details, I would like to thank everyone here for all their advices, support, encouragements, jokes, and help with the morale of this crazy experience.

And I have to tell ya I used to hate the color pink, but now I'm going to buy me a pink boxer brief.

On my wife's blue slip it stated we have to turn in the documents on March 30. But yesterday she decided the heck with it she's gonna go 7 days early. She arrived and was in line around 12:50 pm. When she handed the documents in window B she sat back down and waited. She observed about 20 something people got PINK, and 2 got blue. She was next to the last person, so she thought they were gonna run out of pink slip and give her a blue. But fortunately she was called back up to the window and they handed her the pink slip. she said everything became blur. She also noticed that they prepare the pink slip ahead of time. They didn't ask her any more questions but she noticed they question 1 lady, they gave her a pink slip afterward. there a lady that was accompanied by her husband. they didn't allow him in. however, after they interviewed her, her husband was called in for questioning. they got a pink slip as well. I just want to share this information because others after us might be curious.

btw, on the pink slip they had her name in the wrong order. they wrote her first name as her middle name. next week, March 30 when she pick up her visa (hopefully they will have it ready by then) , she will see if they can correct her name.

good luck and happy journey to others before us and after!

oh LUCKYTXN, i bought a ####### load of hangers!

  12. The blue slip stated that my fiancee had to show up on April 4 with our timeline, 10 year residency and my ex's info. However, she turned up at the Consulate yesterday at 1pm and waited until just before 5pm and they finally gave her the pink paper. We feel blessed.

She is scheduled to pick up her visa next week.

Can anyone help with what she needs when she enters the US? Obviously passport and visa but I thought there was some sealed medical info from Cho Ray. My fiancee told me that the doctor at the Consulate already opened and reviewed all the documentation and all she has left is an x-ray and some yellow paper.

Thanks again for all the past advice.

Hey Mozzer I think my wife was in the same line. she was there yesterday and got pink I just posted more in detail about it

  13. My babe when she got to the states took all my clothes off the hangars in the closet and neatly folded them and placed them in a pile in the corner of the closet and then proceeded to hang her clothes up and used all the hangars and asked to go buy more hangars. Who knew a babe could pack so many hangable clothes in two suitcases?blink.gif

    Lol that's hilarious

  14. ...............freaking way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PINK ON THE SPOT!!!

For those who has been keep track of the interview roll call, you'd know that my fiance Truc has her interview today. She just called me with the pink slip. She said she waited from 9:30, by the time she got the slip it was exactly 11, and she clearly stated her interview did not last not much longer than 5 minutes.

She's too excited to recall the questions that were being asked, but I will post them up once we come down from this high!!!

On a different note, she said she saw quite a few people being interviewed for +30mins just to get a blue slip.

    Nice...congrats!

  15. My wife's interview is next month. So, it seems that my Visa journey almost come to an end. For most people, they will stop visiting visajourney.com after their spouses get here. However, I believe in giving back, so I will visit this forum regularly even when my wife get here. Mainly, because I believe in Karma. If you do good, good thing will happen to you. So many people on this forum have helped me and answered my countless questions. So, I feel like it is my duty to do the same to new members for at least one year.

Well, this is my perspective. What are your opinion on this or karma? Why do you keep coming back to Visajourney even when your spouse get here?

Best of luck on your wife's interview. Yes I believe in Karma and I also feel strongly on giving back.

  16. Hi, all VJers,

This question "have you ever before filed a petition for this or any other alien" came from my brother.

6 years ago, he sponsored his ex-wife through K1 and marriage lasted for 3 years. Now he plans sponsoring his new spouse through CR1 process and stuck with this question "have you ever before filed a petition for this or any other alien". How should he answer this: YES or No.

" If YES, give name, place and date of filing, and result">>>>>>>beside the name of his ex-spouse, what to write about "place" "date" and "result"?

    All input are appreciated.

    Hieumin

    The answer is YES

  17. Hello All,

My wife got the pink slip and was told to come back in 1 week to get her visa but when reading the pink slip again the date to pick up her visa is 2 weeks and 1 day. She said: everyone who get the pink slip was told to come back in 1 week. We are not sure what everyone's pink slip said but maybe some one in here know.

Does the date on the pink slip always match the date they told everyone to come back for the visa?

    congratulations!

  18. Do you guys have a preference on which facility to use to do physical and vaccination. I am leaning toward IOM right now. Any input?

I don't know about IOM, however my wife went to Cho Ray. I accompanied her. We were were there about 3hours. The nurses were rude and after the physical exam and xray they sent us to another location for the vaccinations. I forgot the name and address of that place. Sorry I will ask my wife and get back to you today on that. We then had to drive there to that location to get her shots then drove back to Cho Ray to turn the vaccination records in. We had to come back to Cho RAy the next day to pick up the result. And that did not go smoothly either. We were there for almot 2 hrs and we went early. I'm not sure if this is a Cho Ray thing or that's just how Vietnam operate. They only take American $$$$ there.

  19. I called DoS and finally got confirmation that the consulate has received our paperwork and that they have already sent the P3 out. However they were unable to give me dates on these two actions.

    that's good news Jerry.

  20. After 3 weeks of waiting since Valentine's Day Feb 14. Visa is obtain in hand. The wait is finally over.

congratulations! may i ask how early your wife turned in the requested docs? my wife and i are still debating when we should turn it in. the date on her blue slip is 3/30. thanks in advance

  21. Many thanks for taking the time to do this. This is the type of stuff that helps others about to go through the interview and prepare. Most come here and take everything they can but give nothing back and are leeches. Again many thanks for showing you care.

Thanks I'm happy to hear that i can contribute something.
