  1. Hello!

I am brand new to the visa process, and trying to come to grips with all the requirements.

I am Canadian, married seven years to a USC who has his citizenship through a parent. We have two small children who do not qualify for American citizenship. My husband will begin a new job in DC this May, but his employer is flexible about allowing him to work from our current home in Toronto for the first six months or so. The employer appreciates that my children and I will need time to get our visas etc.

At what point in the process do we need to have a US address? I see there is a line about this on the I-130 form - does this mean we need to have a lease in place at the very beginning of the process? Or can my husband stay up here with us for the first few months after we file the first papers and move down later to establish our residence? I understand I will need a US address for the interview, but at what time before that do I need it?

Obviously, we want to minimize our time apart, as I'm sure everyone does.

Thanks! Glad to find this forum!

    Laura
