  1. btw... peter.. maybe you can help me with this one also..

you mentioned of i-865 in your post.. but what if i send in AOS petition after i move to a new address?

do i still have to do i-865 along with ar-11? cuz i did file i-134 in the past for k-1 process but i will not have filed i-864 by the time i move to a new address. so basically i would be filing AOS from a new address.

in that case, do i just do ar-11? or do i need to do i-865 as well..? i guess this gets kinda tricky...

    any opinions?

also, some other vjers here posted that they contacted USCIS via phone as well as sending in their ar-11. do i need to call USCIS also?

  2. i'm a noob in AOS section. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

i have successful k-1 experience.. yet AOS seems like a whole new process... a lot to learn.. T.T

    plz help this poor soul.. ^^;

1)on the first line where it says, "i'm in the united states as a: visitor/student/pr/other:"

what is the right answer for this question? should i check 'other' then write 'k-1' next to it?

2)on the second line it asks for "A" number.. i don't think my wife is given "A" number yet..

    should i just put N/A?

3)last question on the form.. "if not a permanent resident my stay expires on.."

can i just ignore it when filling out this form? we already got married and are in the process of filing AOS.

my wife isn't going anywhere without me.. ^^

  3. hi,

i'm in the process of putting together AOS package for my fiancee these days.

and i was just wondering she really needs to file for EAD even if she has no plan of getting a job for about another 6 months or so. by that time, she will already have received her temporary green card(when everything goes as planned). is EAD mandatory for every k-1 holders? or can k-1 holder wait until getting a green card to apply for a job. i understand there would be no problem getting a job as long as a person has ssn and green card. any advice?

    thanks in advance.

  4. hi,

i was curious as to what documents my fiancee needs to bring when she enters us.

i'm sure she needs the sealed envelop she received from the embassy.

and of course she will need her passport to get on a plane(with visa paper attached to it).

then what else? does she need to bring her x-ray film too?

she told me that x-ray envelop is sealed as well. does she need that too at POE?

    any opinion?

    jeremy

    another question.. ^^;

does she need to bring other stuff like her birth certificate and immunization record for AOS petition?

i've just briefly looked thourgh AOS guide and those documents were mentioned on it..

i want to gather as much info as possible to save major headache later. :help:

    and thanks in advance.

    jeremy

  5. i just got off phone with my fiancee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my fiancee received visa today!!!!!!!!! yepee~!!!!!

this would not have been possible without all your help!!!!!

thank you thank you thank you all~~!!!!!!

she got to the embassy at 8:30am and went inside without waiting although there was a long line outside.

i guess k-1 visa applicant is treated differently than other visa applicants.

she took a number and waited. then submitted paperwork when they called her number.

waited again. finally after long waiting she finally had her interview.

CO said that paperwork is in order and needed to ask some questions like.. when we first met.. where we first met.. what my hobbies are.. what we did when i last visited her in korea last winter.. etc.

CO basically asked some questions and that was it. my fiancee told me it was like talking to someone at friend's party. some questions and small talk.. that was it.

i thought consulate in korea was one of tough ones but i guess not!!!!

at the end of interview CO told her she will receive her visa through DHL the next day.

finally after almost 6 months of waiting we can be together.

now time to prepare for another trip to korea.

can't wait to see her again.. i'mma travel to korea at the end of march and come back to the states with her together..

    again, thank you all!!!!!!

  6. min7734,

Thanks, your answers help a lot! I have a few more, if you don't mind. Did the US embassy provide your fiancee with a form to take to the police station when requesting her police record (this seems to happen in some countries)? And did the police station send or give the records to her or send them directly to the US embassy? What about the medical exam? Did she have a form from the US embassy to take with her to the hospital? Did she receive the exam results herself or were the results sent directly to the US embassy?

I'm trying to determine if my fiancee can go ahead and get the medical exam and police record done before receiving packet 3, i.e. there is nothing in packet 3 that we actually need to wait for. Thanks!

i am not sure if she took the forms with her to get medical and police cert but i think it will be fine as long as your fiance explains what it's for and show them his/her passport. that's what my fiancee did. she waited and got the police cert the same day to have them translated next day. as for the medical i think you get the x-ray in a sealed envelop along with the result. you just hold on to it until interview date i think.. in my opinion there is no need to wait for packet 3 if you know what you need and what your fiance needs. good luck~

  7. min7734,

If you don't mind me asking, what were the contents of Packet 3 and Packet 4 you received from the consulate? Were there any forms aside from I-345 (and police report and medical report) that you had to fill out and send in after receiving NOA2? Did you or your fiancee schedule the interview your/herself, or did the consulate simply inform you in Packet 3/4? Thanks.

    percipio,

i don't know the exact contents of packet 3.

my fiancee in korea told me she received some documents from the consulate some time after i recieved NOA2 here in the states. i'm sure all the essential forms were included in it although i just downloaded I-134 form from the internet and sent it to my fiancee along with other supporting documents(this site has a list of what to send once you receive NOA2).

you can schedule your interview date via internet.

this is the link you apply for an interview date.

    http://www.asktheconsul.org/iv_appt.html

this link has helpful info. you might wanna check it out.

    http://usembassy.state.gov/seoul/wwwh2500.html

packet 3 sent date in my timeline = date she applied for an interview via internet.

packet 4 received date in my timeline = date she received her interview date in email.

hope i answered your question.. :D

  8. Wow... it seems so fast & easy to get a police cert & medical report in S Korea!

And i didn't know that our interview is on the same day... ok so GOOD LUCK TO US! :)

    Sleepybears

ur interview is on 2/27 also?

  9. hey i am going through south korea as well plase let me know how was the experience and how you got your police report and how long before plus about your medical and how long it took you please it would be really nice if you can share with us min7784 that would be great . zack

    zack,

my fiancee told me she just walked into one of police stations in her neighborhood and applied for the police report. it's supposed to take one day. for medical she called hospitals that are on the approved list and found one that said they can give her result the same day. i was told it usually takes 5 days..

  10. hello..

my fiancee's interview date is 9 days away.. and i'm really really worried (although i have nothing to be worried about except if something and everything goes wrong at the interview). i wanted to have my fiancee prepared for the interview or at least try to calm her down but i have no idea what it's like at the interview. in other words i'm outta luck.. :crying:

i haven't seen many vjers here that had gone through korea consulate.. so i don't know who to ask..

so here i am.. basically asking anyone for his/her help.. can anyone give me tips so i can help my fiancee feel better before the interview? thanks in advance..

  12. Check out...

USCIS _ Documents not in English

    and

    VJ Assembly Tips #13

I translated our Spanish & French documents (legal as well as bills, letters, etc.) to English using the VJ assembly tips format and did not have any of them notarized. You do not need to hire a translator if you are competent in English and the foreign language.

We had no problems and saved lots of $$$!

    Good luck!

thank you for sharing ur experience and the tip.

all your posts have been very helpful. i guess it's safer to use a certified translator just in case..

however, i found the following text on one of the links above:

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.

At the discretion of the officer, original documents may still be required in individual cases. Please be advised that USCIS no longer returns original documents submitted with the exception of Certificates of Naturalization, Forms I-551, Permanent Resident Card, Forms I-94, Arrival/Departure Document, valid passports, or those specifically requested by the officer. Such documents will be returned when they are no longer needed.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

different question from my initial post.. but..

it seems i have to, along with copies, also send NOT ONLY all originals of i-129 form, supporting documents, notarized i-134 form, bank statements, etc. BUT ALSO my passport and/or naturalization certificates. what are the odds of officer asking for my u.s. passport and/or any other original documents? any idea?

my fiance's Korean family census (which is like birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate for the whole family) had to be translated by a certified translator (not just anyone) and notarized. This was to accompany the I-129F to prove that his wife had died. It was expensive, but at least we have a translation ready if he needs it at the consulate.

    shannon65..

    just wondering..

my fiancee is coming from korea too, so i'm really interested in your interview experience..

did they specifically ask for documents to be translated by a certified translator?

did they want it notarized also? or was it just to be better safe than sorry?

how was the interview? was the interviewer hostile or kind and understanding?

i'd really appreciate it if u could share ur experience at the interview in korea.

    thanks in advance.. :luv:

  13. Min:

I made an extrta set of copies for my fiancee and one set for me (of everything.) They didn't give anything back to my fiancee form the 'original' package. But she had extra copies of her birth certificate (and its translation) and her vaccination supplement (from the Doctor's office.)

We needed the birth certificate and the translation for the AOS filing along with the NOA2 from the K1 and nothing else - but they have asked us to bring copies of everything (Including the K1 package) to the AOS interview. You are right that its nonsense as many of them don't look at any of that but we are taking it with us to the interview as asked - in our case the K1 package was only 16 pages (so not a treekiller!) Good Luck

    thanks, motu and fellow vjers..

it seems nothing is for granted.

i will make 2 more sets of entire i-129 package and then i will send a set of copies along with all original proofs of evidence to my fiancee.. just to be on the safe side..

i suppose it's ok to send copies of certain documents such as NOA2, birth certificate, passport since those are essential stuff that i need to keep with me here in the states.

i will just send all the other original documents to my fiancee in korea.

again, i can never thank vj and its members enough for all the valuable info and opinions.. and i hope this post may be of help to other vjers as well.

i'm gonna send all the document to my fiancee this week
