  1. Hi everyone,

I'm planning to travel to Canada soon. I currently hold a green card that is expired. I was told at my most recent biometrics appointment (applying to remove conditions) that the paperwork I got extends my green card date until my application is approved and I get my 10 year green card. I remember the officer saying it was valid in conjunction with my expired green card for travel.

I bought my tickets under my maiden name to match my Canadian passport.

I am worried about getting back into the u.s. with an expired green card. Has anyone beven through this?

Thank you so much for any tips/advice!

  2. NOT to worry!!! I filed on Feb. 22 and NOA Mar. 1....still waiting on my EAD. The status still says "Initial Review" and I487 was placed for "Interview Scheduling" on Apr. 2.....they both are just sitting there.

I call 800 no. this morning...Jamie told me if I don't see any updateby May 2 which is a month from Apr. 2 I should call again....waiting...waiting and waiting...........

    Tell me about it!

  3. Okay so you're going to have to use the A number on the visa. Sometimes CBP write it on your I-94 as well. Hopefully someone hasn't made a typo somewhere (I remember a poster once had 3 different ones, one on the NOA2 - the proper one, the Visa, and his I-94... listed all 3 on his application and hoped for the best. They "picked on" for him).

For AOS you're going to have to submit the NVC letter and hope for the best. Sometimes that works, sometimes they'll make you apply for a replacement NOA2. Here: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=dd153591ec04d010VgnVCM10000048f3d6a1RCRD&vgnextchannel=db029c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD which is presently $405. Hope they accept the NOA2. Your other option is to have the USC call USCIS and tell them he never received the Petition Approval notice for his K1. Did they have confirmation of delivery? Could they send it to him etc etc and hope that works too.

Yeah, I'll try calling them and say we never got it. Thanks for your help!

  4. That's the NVC letter... the USC should have received a "petition approval" which we call NOA2. It basically says your petition has been approved and has been forwarded to NVC. They you get one from NVC with your countries code on it (mine was SYD) and mine had a barcode.

You seriously didn't get the NOA2? Because you need that for AOS. Sometimes the NVC letter works, and sometimes people need to pay the crazy $200+ fee to get a replacement.

**Edit - what do you mean you submitted it as your NOA2 successfully at the consulate? They consulate doesn't usually ask for the NOA2, but they sometimes want the NVC letter... which is what you showed them.

Sorry- must have been thinking of the NVC letter. They needed to see it to get into the building.

  5. It's above the beneficiaries name on the NOA2 (petition approval). The one written anywhere else is often wrong due to human error. If you write a different number you risk your file being split into the 2 alien numbers (has happened before) and it really slows things down while they later "marry" the 2 cases.

And yes, the "file number" on the G-325A refers to the A number (that's why there's an A at the start).

    ^^ Thank you!!

I must be going crazy though... I CANNOT find the A number on my NOA2. All we received in the mail was an approval letter that has my MTL and WAC numbers on it (which I presented as my NOA2 at the consulate, successfully). No number beginning with A! Other than that, I received an appointment confirmation email from the US consulate in Montreal that doesn't have an A number anywhere either.

I'll just have to use the one in my passport... thanks for your help :)

  6. Hello everyone,

Just need a little clarification. I'm a K1 Visa holder, just got married, and am filling out my AOS forms.

I-765, I-485, and I-864 ask for an A number... is this the 9 digit number that begins with A on the visa page of my passport? And G-325A also asks for just a "file number" in the top right corner... is it the same thing?

BTW, I can't see anything on my NOA2 that might be my A number to see if they match!

    Thanks in advance!

  7. I'm a little confused about what needs to be included in package 3.

Are the birth certificate, I-134, evidence of engagement and the police certificate supposed to be included in P3? Or do you save them for the interview? I know the DS-156 notes these things are to be sent with P3 but the MTL guide only lists DS-160, DS-230, DS-156 and DS-156K, the signed checklist and passport photos.

  8. We got our NOA2 a couple weeks ago, haven't received packet 3 yet, but I called DOS and our case has been logged. So, time to get the ball rolling. On Montreal's website, to view the necessary forms for P3, it asks for your MTL case number and an Invoice ID number. I assumed it was the WAC # we received with our NOA1, but nope.

Help please, where can I find the invoice ID number??

  9. I'm trying to view the P3 forms on the montreal consulate's website. It asks you to log in with your "invoice ID number"... what is that? Where can I find it?

This guide has been super helpful for us so far. Starting to feel like I know what to expect, thanks to all contributors!

  10. we got our NOA2 in the mail yesterday! i was totally expecting an RFE so it was such a huge relief.

it was a double shock because i've been checking the uscis website obsessively... when i looked yesterday morning it still said "initial review". so i have been expecting to be the one to give HIM the good news. either way, we are so incredibly happy and relieved :D

no email and no text from uscis either.

hang in there, everyone still waiting. it's a-comin'!
